Following yesterday's hard-fought win, Nolan McLean is back on the bump for the Mets, looking for his fourth win in as many Major League starts. Tigers are sending out Sawyer Gipson-Long, who I confess not knowing much about until looking it up today. First, his actual first name is Alec, so he parts his name on the left. The 27-year-old Georgian has appeared in six games, with 25 innings, 20 strikeouts and a 4.32 ERA. I go to Comerica two or three times a year. Yesterday was my third time this season. The concourses are dark and crowded when there is a good crowd. The food is very basic and not worth waiting in line for two innings. I don't like that they feel the need to use the "Make some noise" graphic throughout the game. The Tigers used to take the field to "Detroit Rock City," which was cool. But not in the last couple seasons. The marketing staff is really nice and we've been working on some partnerships. The large tiger sculptures are fun to pose with. Jesse Winker will not be in this game or any other this season, according to Mendoza. That was fun! It's rare that I get to see the Mets in person, and even rarer that I get to see them win! Lots of Mets fans at the game. Maybe more than any other opposition team I've seen there.

Headed out the door to catch the Mets in Detroit. Sean Manaea, 1-2 5.01 ERA, faces the ageless Charlie Morton, 9-10, 5.25. Tigers are 80-58 and coasting to a division title with a 9.5 game lead on the Royals. Tigers have been wildly inconsistent lately, splitting their last 10 games. Skubal shut down the Royals yesterday, so we'll miss him this series. I was at two of the three games in Pittsburgh, and we know those did not go well. Hopefully a win today!

This is true! We were looking to retain the name of our college team and come up with a mascot. I met with consultants who worked with us on ideas. I have to imagine that actually changing the names has about five more layers of complexities. The food things are all "alternate" identities. Some are neat, lots not so much. Then they all have the "Cupa de Diversion" latino identities, also with some neat, and lots not so much. I think Rumble Ponies is not a great name, but the Brooklyn Cyclones is brilliant! Almost all of those cutesy two word names for minor league sports teams emanated from the same marketing firm. I forget the name but, IIRC, they were based in San Diego. So, yeah, they'd find something 'unique' about the location and hunt around for a name off of that: 'Hey, I hear horsey carousals are big in Binghamton ... I've got it, Rumble Ponies!!!!' And the Jacksonville Suns abandoned their longtime name in favor of Jumbo Shrimp, and then there's the Yard Goats, Iron Pigs, etc. There's nothing like acting like everyone else in an attempt to be unique. When I saw the Guards in Cleveland last Monday, they had a good lead going into the ninth. Then Cade Smith, their closer who is not facing a lifetime ban, imploded with the help of two errors to let the Rox get a rare win. We can get these guys!
