  1. ="Edgy DC"]4) The worst hitting pitcher who nonetheless looked like he should be able to handle himself up there. I've got nothing. Pedro? I thought of Pedro but changed my mind because he looks silly with his helmet on. ="Edgy DC"]7) The best hitting relief pitcher. Jesse Orosco. I woulda gone with him too until Oliver. ="Edgy DC"] 9) The best baserunning pitcher. Ron Darling. For some reason I was thinking of Doc. But I don't know why.
  2. 51 would be good for a Tie for 42nd all-time in MLB. Well off of Earl Webb's record of 67 and Ducky Medwick's NL record of 64. My guess is that Cliff will not add to his total after this year and will end the year at about 24th all time as a Met. Could the forum's namesake's record be in jeopardy one day? 3. I wanted to say something similar, but didn't want to get yelled at.
  4. Milledge looked silly for the majority of his game-winning run home. He was staring into the outfield almost the entire way. He didn't need to do that. He could've done his slide around the catcher (which was excellent, I'll admit) by seeing the catcher's positioning. I'm sure that looking back over your shoulder is going to slow you down. If he had been tagged out I'd be ranting.
  5. Centerfield wrote: I was wondering that too. I hope they have a better plan in place than Keith. I remember a few years back, there were a few innings where Keith was left alone with Seaver. They might as well have handed the booth to me and my buddies. It was downright awful. Pure speculation on my part, but I would think maybe they would bring in Howie and let Ed Coleman fill in on the radio. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
  6. Glavine 4.25 Lo Duca 1.25 Heilman 1.25 Wagner 0.75 Sanchez 0.75 Reyes 0.4 Chavez 0.25 Wright 0.25 Milledge 0.1
  7. Let someone else start the IGT then.
  8. Wright 2.5 Feliciano 0.75 Bradford 0.75 Valentin 0.75 Reyes 0.5 Floyd 0.5
  9. Maybe their should be a starts minimum for starter-specific categories and an innings minimum for all pitching categories. I'll assign them if no one else speaks up. Or if no one else cares. Edit: I think the standard is 1 inning pitched per game played to qualify as a starter. We can use that. I'm leaning towards just waiting until the end of the season and seeing the breakdown of innings pitched for each pitcher and setting a cutoff then. But more importantly, does anyone really care?
  10. Updates exactly 1/3 of the way through the season. How are you doing? 11. Without checking numbers, who in Mets history do you think of as... 1) The best hitting pitcher. Hampton, Doc a strong second but a fair distance behind 2) The best hitting pitcher who nonetheless didn't look good up there. Sid 3) The worst hitting pitcher. Leiter 4) The worst hitting pitcher who nonetheless looked like he should be able to handle himself up there. Can't think of one 5) The best bunting pitcher. Glavine 6) The worst bunting pitcher. Leiter 7) The best hitting relief pitcher. Gotta go Oliver 8) The slugging guy who didn't hit much but was a threat to connect for a homer. Kingman Or is this pitchers too? Hampton was the only power threat that I can think of, but the "who didn't hit much" part doesn't apply to him. 9) The best baserunning pitcher. I've never really thought of this before. Could Doc run? 10) The pitcher who you thought was a better hitter than a pitcher. Another chance to make fun of Zambrano
  12. Is it me, or are the Mets just not hitting these days?
  13. I dunno. It did take Keith two months to figure out our regular catcher's last name.
  14. I was wondering that myself. But maybe they are right? Isn't the letter a pronounced "ah"? If so, they are saying it right I think.
  15. Wright's hit was a ground single between first and second. Edit: I'm Big Mac.
  16. In game announcement....Pujols leaves his game with an oblique strain.
  17. Taken from the SNY thread. Oh my god. I will never EVER complain about the memory of Fran Healy again. Click this link, then click on one of the links next to "Piazza's mammoth shot" in the Multimedia section (as time goes on you may have to click on "More multimedia" to find "Piazza's mammoth shot"). And listen to the call. The fake Italian just kind of puts the cherry on top doesn't it? (For another thread...it still amazes me that in this PC-crazed world no one ever makes a fuss about people pretending to speak Italian by mocking the language.) They make Michael Kay sound good and make Chris Russo sound like a HOF broadcaster. _________________________ And of course, it's good to see that Mikey can still hit a ball 600 feet. BTW, Piazza = .256/.329/.466//.795. Not terrible for a 37 year old catcher. He could play for my team. Well, if my catcher wasn't the best hitting catcher in baseball this year.
  18. Agreed.
  19. The Weather Channel is showing showers until 10.
  20. Just bought my tickets for Mikey's return on August 8th. Inner Loge Reserved (I know that technically there is no Inner Loge Reserved, but it's Loge Reserved behind one of the Inner Loge Boxes.) Row B. I got these for a song (Don't Cry) so I may end up selling them if I can find better seats by the game.
  21. I hate rainouts. But nymets.com makes the good point that Beltran gets another day's rest. And I actually enjoy the second game where only 3 regular starting position players actually start. Those are fun. Will this be Jose's first missed game?
  22. Moved to announcer rant thread.
  23. Yancy Street Gang wrote: We're not going to get that second game televised, are we? First game on FOX. Second game on SNY.
