Worth nothing that we haven't yet had a losing streak of more than 2 games. Now that I've said that, everyone pound some wood. -

First time we've been shut out this year. (Projected rate: 4.76. Not bad.) Second lowest combined run total of the year. We've won 20 of our last 31.

From the "He-coulda-phrased-that-better department": ]After starting each of the Mets first 23 games, Xavier Nady was given the afternoon off. Randolph said Nady was "banged up," but the right fielder said he was fine. "Nady hasn't ever played every day in his career," Randolph said. "We want to make sure that transition is smooth. Mentally, some times it's good to give a guy a blow."

Same winning percentage as last week at this time, due to our 4-2 over last week. On the road. In the Pacific time zone. And in Georgia. Yeah. * 3 of our 5 divisional opponents had 1-win weeks (ATL 1-5, WAS 1-6, FLA 1-5). Sucks to be them. * The NL East averages the lowest runs scored (109) and runs allowed (115.6) in beisbol. The AL East (130.6 / 129) averages the highest. * Mets have allowed 2nd fewest total runs in baseball. (Detroit? What?) * Mets increased their RS - RA difference to 31, putting us 5th behind MFY (53), Detroit (50), Chisox (44) and Cards (32). * The AL Central is hella stratified -- KC is at -56, Minny at -51. ="Edgy DC"]Deals from 2004 which are still open. August 27, 2004 New York Mets traded Dan Wheeler to the Houston Astros for Adam Seuss. I cannot find Seuss. I cannot find him on a bus, I cannot find him with a guy named Gus. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/news/050422steroids.html ]April 22, 2005: Major League Baseball announced nine more minor leaguers who have been suspended for testing positive for performance-enhancing substances, a list headlined by former Mets righthander Grant Roberts. All nine players were suspended for 15 games as first-time offenders. Roberts had been released by the Mets at the end of spring training, as was outfielder Adam Seuss, who was also suspended. Seuss has since re-signed with the Astros, who originally drafted him in 2002 out of UC Riverside. Lefthander Damien Myers of the Tigers organization, also released at the end of spring training, also was suspended. http://www.carolinaleague.com/article.php?article_id=507 ]6/29/05: Salem, VA -- For a second time in 2005 the Salem Avalanche's Roster has undergone a major overhaul ...OF Adam Seuss has been released. Seuss' career with the Avalanche has come to a close after nearly two seasons with the ballclub. The outfielder had a great start to the 2004 season, and finished the year hitting .283 in 104 games. After being dealt to the New York Mets organization near the end of the 2004 season, Seuss was acquired by the Astros once again in the off-season. Seuss was hitting just .148 in 39 games in 2005. Great.

This reminds me of a six degrees-ish thread Edgy used to do about longest-running trade returns. Maybe there's a thread somewhere. Seems like most of our current roster was signed, not traded, and the longest trade I could come up with was Vance Wilson (drafted 1993) for Anderson Hernandez. I'm sure there are longer ones involving an endless parade of minor leaguer swaps. I wonder how far back they'd go. We still have a thread like that? Can anyone come up with a trade remnant dating to pre-1993? Edit: Holy hell, Luis Lopez. Thanks JD.

="Marty Noble"] If the hamstring strain Brian Bannister suffered Wednesday causes the rookie pitcher to be assigned to the disabled list, and if Carlos Beltran still feels unable to play Friday when the Mets open their series in Atlanta, the Mets probably will promote a position player from the Minor Leagues for at least four games. That player will not be Lastings Milledge, general manager Omar Minaya said Wednesday. It could be Victor Diaz, who has not been hitting productively in Triple-A since he was demoted April 17. The player promoted probably would be returned to the Minor Leagues on Tuesday if the club needs to promote a pitcher -- John Maine, Jose Lima or Jeremi Gonzalez -- to replace Bannister. Maine is the only one of the three on the 40-man roster. The Mets won't know enough to make a decision about Bannister until Thursday, if then. He is to be re-evaluated in Atlanta. He said he never had a hamstring injury, so he has nothing to judge this one against. "It might just be a real bad cramp," he said. "The best thing is that's it's not in the worst place -- high or low. It's in the middle of the muscle."

="Zvon"]The bottomline, this should be a kool Met picture thread. Found these wire photos in a filing cabinet at work the other day. They encompass some interesting moments in Mets history. Full-size scans are Imageshacked for your protection (and so as to not break the forums) and presented in chronological order with the original AP cutlines: New York Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden became baseball's all-time rookie strikeout king Wednesday surpassing Herb Score's mark of 245 whiffs. Gooden fanned 16 Pittsburgh Pirates for a total of 251 strikeouts though tonight's game. (Sept. 12, 1984) New York Mets, newly-acquired catcher Gary Carter and Frank Cashen, strike a pose in Shea Stadium Wednesday. The seven-time National League All-Star played for the Montreal Expos for 10 years before the trade. (David Pickoff/Dec. 12, 1984) New York mets Gary Carter, right, is congratulated by teammate Keith Hernandez who scored on his tenth inning home run to beat the Pirates 9-7 in ten innings Sunday in Pittsburgh. It was Carter's 32nd round-tripper on the year. (Dale Sparks/Sept. 29, 1985) Bud Harrelson answers questions at a press conference at Riverfront Stadium Tuesday evening where he was named the new manager of the New York Mets. Harrelson replaces Davey Johnson (who) was fired. (Al Behrman/May 29, 1990) St. Louis Cardinal Vince Coleman is all smiles at a press conference at Shea Stadium in New York Thursday after it was announced the outfielder signed a four-year contract with the New York Mets for $11.95 million. (Bebeto Matthews/Dec. 13, 1990) New York Mets Kevin Elster wears a straw hat as takes some warm-up tosses at Mets Stadium in Port St. Lucie Sunday morning. The early spring training arrival last played Aug. 3, 1990 and underwent arthroscopic surgery a month later to repair torn anterior capsule and labrum of the shoulder. Pitcher an catchers are scheduled for workouts Friday. (Richard Drew/Feb 17, 1991) New York Mets left hander Sid Fernandez, second left, is in pain as he's aided on the mound in Port St. Lucie Monday afternoon. He suffered a fractured ulna bone in his pitching arm after being hit by a ball batted by Houston Astros Javier Ortiz. With Sid are Chris Donnels, ump Gerry Davis and trainer Steve Garland, left to right. (Richard Drew/March 11, 1991) J. Frank Cashen, General Manager of the New York Mets, announces his retirement Friday as general manager, but says he will stay with the club as Chief Operating Oficer and Senior Executive Vice President. Cashen will turn over the genral manager job to Executive Vice President Al Harazin, he stated Friday at the Shea Stadium new conference. (Susan Ragan/Sept. 27, 1991) Outfielder Bobby Bonilla, left, who last week signed a $29 million contract to play for the New York Mets, chats with Pittsburgh Pirates assistant trainer David Tumbes Tuesday at the winter baseball meetings in Miami Beach. Bonilla is currently the highest paid player in baseball. (Kathy Willens/Dec. 10, 1991) New York Mets pitcher Dave Cone is unhappy with his pitching against the Atlanta Braves Wednesday in Port St. Lucie, FL., at one point arguing with the home plate umpire. Cone pitched 4.2 innings, gave up five hits and six runs with six strikeouts. The Braves won 8-6. (Susan Ragan/April 1, 1992) New York Mets centerfielder Howard Johnson slams into the fence while robbing San Diego Padres Darren Jackson of an extra base hit during the second inning of their game Thursday in San Diego. (Lenny Ignelzi/May 21, 1992)
