  1. awesome^
  2. Cards score on a close play at first that will be reversed. Should be. The guy was clearly out. It is! Still 0-0 Mets.
  3. My brother said they have the BUNT cards at Target. I'll check em out. Who do they have in mind to buy these cards? The Rockefellers? (omg, I'm so old!) [fimg=300]http://cardsmithsbreaks.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/2016-Topps-The-Mint-Baseball.jpg[/fimg] 1 case has 4 boxes, 1 pack per box, 5 cards per pack. Price per case=$4000, now on sale for $2,500. Insane. Nice looking....but insane. These are numbered. 4. 86 slider with a dip
  5. This is about as stress free a save Familia can pick up. LGM!
  6. Major league leading 37 holds, the second most is 29.
  7. What a season he's having.
  8. Yo with an RBI single. That's big. 3-0 Mets

  10. It's a sub series, I guess, because I see "CALL UP" is included for other cards on the checklist . I decided I would get the card and I got to the webpage today before it expired, but got sidetracked. When I got back they had pulled it. So I missed out but no feeling of regret. Just meh. The hobby is getting so crazy. They sold 613 copies of TJs card. This will be a ultra rare Rivera card. And talk about crazy. I was talking to my brother about Topps BUNT and folks take these cards very seriously. And valuable. My brother got a super rare 1/25 Trout/Aaron autographed card. Beautiful looking. But a digital card. Digital images of the autographs. Not real. Can only be viewed on a screen through the app. My brother traded the card to another collector for 6 Mets BUNT cards, awesome looking (DIGITAL! NOT REAL!) cards that included Piazza relic and uni patch cards. A piece of his bat, and a piece from his uni, the M in Mets (koolest). Looks fantastic. BUT IT"S NOT REAL! Its a picture of these things. And folks are really into it. Into possessing these digital images. I find this kinda wacky. Also something my brother said and I agree: If these ToppsNOW cards are really limited run they should be stamped with the number, like for TJ they'd have a 5/613 on the card. I mean, we pay 10 bucks for a single card. Go that extra step. Oh, and good thing I no longer collect everything that has "Mets" on it: [fimg=400:pypzvj36]https://www.topps.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/500x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/a/r/artbb-16c2s-16tn-0455-1.jpg[/fimg:pypzvj36] bastages.
  11. What's important about Loney is that he was hitting when we needed it most. And making plays Duda couldn't dream of, even with his limited range. Just heads up confident first base. He has tailed off. Right now he might be only adequate at best, but we needed every win to get us here, and he provided a few of those. I would love to have Duda back or maybe another in there at this time (Conforto?), but considering how we got him (and the cost) I think he was exactly what we needed. Twitter is dragging Loney through the mud and I think that's rather harsh. He was an important signing, IMO. But Bruce. He's driving me crazy. TC said you don't hit, you don't play, but when it comes to the money players, I guess it's a different approach. He has sat him more recently, but apparently not enough. Give Conforto or Nimmo a few days in a row to take a look see, let Bruce clear his head. We need to be playing our hottest hand.

I kept a copy of this Baseball Digest for years (image not mine...my copy is long gone). I know it was one of the first magazines that came to my house that was addressed to me. I would have gone ballistic if this copy came to me and the Mets guy was covered by the address. Even if it was just Kevin McReynolds! And yes, I would have slowly and deliberately tried to remove that.
  13. Koolest pic of Whitey ever.
  14. I'm re-reading Kings' The Dark Tower series (again!) and the Mets come up a few times. Sometimes it's from a New York fans perspective (Eddie Dean) and another time it's from a Boston fans perspective (John Cullum). The story involves time travel. The Boston fan was from 1977 and he wanted to know from Eddie if Boston had won it all yet (Dean being from 1987). Cullum had an autographed ball collection of Boston players, the prize being one signed by the Babe when he was still with the BoSox. Cullum's eyes gleamed."Tell me something, son. Have the Red Sox won it all yet? Have they ever won the series? At least up to your time?" Eddie's grin faded and he looked at the old man seriously. "I'll tell you if you really want to know, John. But do ya?" John considered, puffing his pipe. Then he said, "I s'pose not. Knowin'd spoil it." "I'll tell you one thing," Eddie said cheerfully, "You don't want to die before 1986. That's gonna be a corker."

I remember taking one particular issue to school to show to a friend of mine because there was a cool picture of a Met swinging a bat with some newfangled contraption attached to the bat to create wind resistance when swinging the bat. The bat looked like the wings from a rocket ship were attached to it. This was in elementary school. Anyways, I left the issue inside my desk, and when our class came back from lunch that day, I noticed that my TSN was missing. Someone stole it. If you went to PS.22, that was me. The small size was a crucial factor to me. I actually felt like some kind of authority when I could whip a Baseball Digest out of the back pocket of my jeans during a baseball discussion down in the playground.
  16. I hope they still do and I always loved looking at those.

  18. Of course I've already made my own. 19. Pretty sweet card. Unless Batmags is tweeting as Topps, this ones real. [fimg=300:1qj3q0g6]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CsVjf2EWYAATmyT.jpg[/fimg:1qj3q0g6] Do I want this card? I'll leave it up to you guyz. You tell me. No rookie symbol but this card could be attractive if I am starting a TJ collection, and I see no reason not to.
  20. Disappointing. But everyone lost.
  21. whoa, something going on here
  22. I stepped off. So what's I miss?
  23. lolol, this cracked me up. I had to share it here somewhere. This is the closest appropriate thread.
