  1. but not of their captain, for some reason.
  2. They don't shift him a lot. 21 times or 14.6% his wOBA is a little lower in shifts, .323 to .375 without. He pulls 27.6 % of his balls, and also goes oppo the same amount. Sprint speed is 27.5 ft/sec that's 248th, 35th among 2B and 39th for his age. rank: 60.9% He misses a lot when the ball is down in the zone, particularly away, and that's generally where they're pitching him. He's also not good up and away but still in the zone. He seems to be doing most of his damage on balls middle, middle away, middle down. So basically if they get it off the plate he'll swing and miss but if it stays in the zone he smacks it. 21% of the pitches he sees are off the plate down and away. he swings at 41% of them. He swings at roughly everything in the zone except for a few of the down and away pitches. I don't know how those stack up to average or whatever. Most of the projection systems had him striking out more, with a lower BABIP which would've put him around average in terms of hitting. He's probably not 36% better than average, but if he's gonna continue to make that good contact and not strike out the BABIP is probably not that lucky and he can continue to be pretty good. But It's only 150PA.
  3. he'll DH way before September. It's the throwing that's more of an issue, as we can clearly see he can hit with a torn UCL so a repaired one should be fine early next year. It's more of an issue whether DHing cuts into his rehab program.
  4. Nimmo's wRC+ of 149 is 8th best in baseball.

Almost as neat as the time he got the Mets to give him a 2 year deal and tricked them into thinking it was a bargain. I mean, it was. and he did catch it anyway. If he caught it, he wouldn't have thought he needed to trick the ump, right? You always make sure. A review would've ruled that he'd made the catch.

I mean, there _is_ value in players that are playing well right? The opposite is to just jettison everyone that underperforms for a bit.
  8. nobodies proposing that any of the three existing guys are going to be fired so of course they have the 'trust' of ownership, or they wouldn't be here. No one's taking a job that comes with the caveat, "we might just let Omar make the decisions anyway" No one's turning away advice either. It's going to be framed as "We hired Omar to do X. We trust him in this regard, and hope you'll take his immense knowledge and talent into consideration." This isn't abnormal, within baseball or outside of it. Whenever a new exec comes on board he or she has existing employees with highly regarded opinions to deal with. I imagine at first new hires get a little longer lease to 'work their magic', and the meddling comes later, but we'll see I guess.
  9. He's not going to put up Reyes numbers for one. It'll still be fun. He'll still be able to run into one and hit it out. Hell, maybe he can hold on and manage the 11 he needs for the Mets record. That'd be nice. Yes, but Wright was farther along than Strawberry. Like, without the injury he'd be there now. He had three seasons at least as good as Strawberry's best. See? You're already underrating him.
  10. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I just dont get all these posts and all the fuss unless Wright and the Mets think he can not only play a full season, but make positive contributions. All this hoping and waiting so that Wright could take a symbolic at bat for a team that's already eliminated at least spiritually if not mathematically, and the mathematical elimination will come soon enough, guaranteed. Nutso. I'm not rooting against it and if that's what Wright wants I hope he gets it. But so what? he's a Mets legend and a derailed hall of famer. He's not going to get 'one AB' he's going to play a few games here and there. That's fun. we like watching him play.

David could hit .800 with 20 home runs in the next week and we still won't see him in the bigs, and this is why. Lefty Specialist wrote: I have the solution. Send Reyes to Las Vegas. Win-win. OMG WHY DIDN'T WE THINK OF THIS SOONER i need a source on that first one, as it makes no sense and I'm not convinced it's true. I think it means they won't get April and May insurance money until June, not that they won't get it. Also it's like 2.2 million. for September. That's not it. It's contradictory to say the Mets gave Reyes that much on some sort of belief that the fans love him and want him around and won't do it for Wright. Also April and May next year is ~ 4 million. 75% of that is 3 million. again, that's junk change to the Wilpons, and the Mets. hell, they're probably getting that much more back this year just on 45's tax garbage.
  12. the simple answer is he IS good he played hurt for a good while earlier this season depressing his numbers, and he's still above average to this point. Solid 3-win player or so with good defense.
  13. They'll announce with the lineup at 6:30 pm Friday night that he's playing. There's no way this is about 2.5 million dollars, that's junk change that they've already shaved from the budget this year.

Ricco's saying it won't happen. But failed to explain why they're promoting him to PDT while the Mets are on PDT other than "this was the plan".
  15. the audio quality on WOR is garbage, with all sorts of canned noise, something about gaming ratings or something. the game on 104.3 HD2 is crystal clear though. Streaming through my phone, despite the obnoxious volume of the commercials, is still preferred though.
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That site was blocked for me. I'll have to try it again when I'm not on my employer's VPN. I do already know my Mets endcaps: Jose Oquendo and Julio Franco. harsh firewall. I guess they don't like the .rip
  17. Born of the Effectively Wild podcast, here's a tool this guy wrote to determine who the first MLB player to debut that was younger than you. https://enlightenment.rip/who-are-your-mlb-endcaps Also tells you the last player older than you if it's not still Bartolo. mine is Jeremy Bonderman.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I spent about two weeks in college once, reverse engineering, trying to figure out the formula for quarterback ratings. Got nothing. Interesting Trivia: Blasphemers of Jake have won more Grammys than The Beatles. I actually calculated QB rating (well, canadian QB rating) a few years back for a job. Wrote it into a SQL formula. give it deGrom. Max has a slight edge in K-BB%, but deGrom's got a cushion in ERA/ERA-/FIP/xFIP.. but I guess if you like SIERA Max has it. Both Nola and Scherzer have a .035 better BABIP which probably means they've been a little luckier at times. Keep an eye on Patrick Corbin too. His ERA is a little higher but his other numbers are in the vicinity. It's the 73% LOB% compared to 81+ for the other guys that's making his ERA look bad. Corbin actually has more fWAR than Nola. He'll never get it, with a 4.76 ERA because he plays for the Rockies, but Jon Gray is having a pretty damn unlucky year and pitching really well. If you want a 6th guy on your list, it's Zack Wheeler.
  19. So who do we think is finishing second in the NL East? The Braves? we finish up against them, it could be a fight to the finish! or the Phillies? ba to back weekend series to open the final month but those are the only six in the second half. similar to the Nats, who we see 13 times in before the end of may. way to early to accertain which teams will be good, but sans a respite against the Red and Marlins before that final series, September looks tough. Hell, add in three against the Nats as 'easy' and mid-august on at least looks like it could be real tough.
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Wow! That means, among other things, that anyone signing him this winter won't have to lose a draft pick. does it? Mets offered him one and you're not allowed two, or does that get reset because that was the old CBA? I lose track of timing.
  21. Well, Todd Frazier is good, and hopefully this year with the injuries was an aberration. Nimmo, Conforto, Lagares, Bruce so technically that's 4/5 outfield spots taken, with a 5th possibly back in the second half. The Mets are going to need to trade some contracts, just from logistics. So there are a lot of permutations they could do.
  22. I mean, I'm hopeful, but I'm also hopeful the infield isn't going to be Frazier-Rosario-McNeil-Alonso three weeks into April next year. Need at least one established good player in there imo. (and probably not Wright)
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: They also started the game with an inexperienced left fielder. I didn;t see the first run, but Wheely seemed to think that ball could have been caught but we were burned by a shift Wheeler's been whiny about the shift in the past right? I didn't see it either and can't seem to find a catch probability by play breakdown anywhere (And it doesn't appear in Reinheimer's statcast fielding). I mean, Smith probably should've been starting over Reinheimer out there, inexperience be damned.

So much Facebook branding, I could just barf (I am casting it from a reddit stream for those wondering). just dummy up a fake account! you can(they can?) swipe away the comments stuff. it's got the small box in the top right of the scorebug and the watermark facebook watch in the bottom left. all I'm seeing. I'm not super paying attention though.
  25. Wake up it's already 1-0. Amed Rosario goes boom.
