  1. Nimmo back up to 12th in wRC+. right there with Machado.
  2. pin guy: While much has changed in the 20 years since Frazier played in the Little League World Series, the tradition of trading pins remains alive and well. During Toms Rivers' run through the tournament, Frazier estimated he collected close to 1,000 pins, which he pressed into two binders that he intends to carry with him to Williamsport. https://www.mlb.com/mets/news/todd-frazier-excited-to-meet-llws-players/c-290487380
  3. Is it more than "This guy has a lot of pins?"

You know how some folks, realizing how outre it is to dress like their favorite player, attempt a flanking maneuver and dress like an umpire or something? I had a guy sitting a section over — a grown-ass man, mind you — who was doing PA announcer cosplay. Every time there was a player substitution, he stood up, put his home-made fake microphone to his mouth, and bellowed out the change. "Your attention please! Now pitching for the Mets! Number 39! JERRY BLEVINS!" . Imagine if you told that guy he's basically no different than the guy who dressed up as Robin Hood and goes to the Renn Faire, just different mediums?
  5. Blue Oyster Cult always reminds me of Aaron Hielman.
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think Smith is rounding into a "change of scenery" guy, but I also suspect the Mets might look at the evil plan to keep Alonso buried as a way to avoid Smith-ing his value away and seeing what he could bring back in a trade, as we have way too many 1Bmen on the roster already There is value in 'development' in working on things in the minors, reps, training, etc, outside of the lights and competition of real games. It's not like Alonso has been in AAA all season. I'd probably bring him up, but I typically err on the side of 'eh, just promote him', I'm just not going to deny that it's that cut and dry. I guess same with Smith? It really feels like he should be up and taking his hacks here, but he was garbage last time up and didn't walk at all. If my unbaked theory that his decrease in power early this season was a result of the Mets specifically telling him to focus on batting eye, and then he comes up and doesn't walk, it doesn't seem farfetched that he was sent back to do just that. I still think he should probably just do it up here at this point, but hell, maybe it's a "You don't get rewarded for not listening"? I dunno.
  7. Kershaw Corbin Keuchel ? Kershaw has been pitching well again which might get him to opt out. Corbin is having a career year, just turned 29, and most of his other years have been pretty good too? Where did that K rate come from? is it for real? Damn, that'd be nice. Keuchel has the pedigree and the awards, but is he a factor of the Astros, plus he's a groundball machine and the Mets haven't proven they've got the defense for that necessarily. But maybe you could steal a Corbin while everyone's focused on Keuchel and Kershaw? Or someone else? Drew Pomeranz? there's a guy with down year with Boston after multiple good ones. plummeting K rate. fluke? injury? (Seems to have lost velocity at the end of 2017, and that makes him suck.) Hyun-Jin Ryu? He's got a groin injury but he's coming back now. He's really good too. Maybe the injury history and a crowded class lowers his value.

It'd be nice, but the only two teams available to pass them play each other 9 times which is gonna make it tough. though they each have a 3 game series against the Yankees, so I guess if the Mariners go 5-4 against the As and both teams sweep the Yankees..
  9. the 5 train? that's unbelievably stupid unless it was David Wright returning.
  10. smg58 wrote: We could use quite a few things more than we could use a left-handed corner outfielder, which is why dealing Bruce for an equivalent contract at a position of more need makes sense. Cobb has been pitching much better lately, in one of the worst places in all of baseball to pitch (i.e., a hitter's park where you regularly face the Yankees and Red Sox). We certainly wouldn't rather have Vargas. Plus, I trust Callaway to handle starting pitchers. Anything more than one year and $5M for Harvey would be insanity. Melancon is recovering from an injury that shelved him for a full year. He's not all the way back. But 20 innings is far too small a sample size to write him off. Sure, but even if you trade to someone that thinks Bruce will be his usual self, you're goingto get an average guy back? we don't need that. we need good players. Cobb is bad. He had a decent year last year and was above average, but he's a guy with a sinking K rate, and an above average groundball pitcher that still gives up above average home runs. I'm not convinced Vargas won't be better than him next year, as Vargas has like 10 years where he's been better than Cobb is this year. Vargas has only thrown 47.1 innings interrupted a lot of by injury and skipped starts and stuff. It's entirely possible you could get the meh 4.1 ERA out of him next year that actually keeps you in games. Gotta fix that walk rate. Neither of them throw hard though, so maybe go with the guy that gets strikeouts at least. implies better stuff? Probably on Harvey, but pitching is expensive. He's been average for the Reds and the velocity is coming back up. You might be able to leverage that into useful innings. (though he's still not really getting the strikeouts on it). But if you can buy that he's on a 'build up' track where his velocity might stay/go up for a year or two and he can get some outs that way, he might be worth it. This would instead of Vargas. Melancon also had 30 bad innings last year. There are a billion relievers that come out of nowhere to be good. Identify and groom those guys, don't just sign the guy that's maybe done it before a while ago. Wasn't this the knock on Gonzalez, who really only had 1 bad injury plagued year?
  11. A Boy Named Seo wrote: He did make a throw. Off-balance and moving away from first, but didn't look like it had a ton of mustard on it. Glad to see him moving around pretty decently, though. Go, Dave, go. My arm was throbbing from sneezing this morning, so props to him.
  12. Unconfirmed. Throw might've just been late.
  13. CJ Alexander Jr. grounds into a force out, fielded by third baseman David Wright. Drew Waters out at 3rd. Riley Delgado to 2nd. CJ Alexander Jr. to 1st. David Wright called out on strikes. Garrison Schwartz pops out to third baseman David Wright. David Wright walks. Michael Paez grounds into a double play, shortstop Riley Delgado to second baseman Marcus Mooney to first baseman Kurt Hoekstra. David Wright out at 2nd. Defensive Substitution: Blake Tiberi replaces third baseman David Wright, batting 2nd, playing second base.
  14. A Boy Named Seo wrote: How'd he do last night? Anyone see any vids or reports of hist 2nd game? he walked.
  15. Yankees couldn't afford depth in the offseason, are somehow forced to play Walker in the outfield, and are playing Stanton hurt rather than DLing him. #LOLMets
  16. d'Kong76 wrote: I was going to post the lineups from metsdotcom but see they have Cabrera at 2B. Mickey does know Asdrubal is gone, right? NYM RH Jacob deGrom (6-7, 1.77 ERA) NYY RH Luis Severino (15-5, 3.11) lies. They have Reyes at second and Cabrera DHing. And Judge in RF even though we all know he's done.
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Joel Sherman aims high here but the sentiment is right on, Bruce could go for another team's problematic contract. https://nypost.com/2018/08/13/creative-jay-bruce-trades-that-could-solve-multiple-mets-problems/ I mean, they never should've acquired Bruce, he's bad and a had a down year. But Should he come back healthy and bop in September I guess you can sorta sell that he's going to hit 30 HR or something next year. This is where we should be arguing that Bruce is the prime candidate to eat some dough and bring back someone useful. Not guys with big contracts that are bad. I don't think I want any of the garbage Sherman is peddling, most of which is "These are bad guys the Mets were linked to last year, maybe they'd rather sign these bad guys than the bad guys they did sign?" Like, Alex Cobb? I might still take Vargas. (I'd also pitch Matt Harvey a 2/25 type deal for that role) Or "Hey, THIS pitcher the Mets have didn't thrive under Callaway (small sample!) why not trade for another pitcher that previously did? I'd rather keep Swarzak than include him in a swap for Bryan Shaw. That's garbage all around. "Hey this guy's bad but he has 'closer pedigree'. No. Stay away from Mark Melancon. His K rate is plummeting, his walk rate is rising, he's not getting the ball down anymore. I'd rather try to teach Bruce to pitch. The real answer is sign a Machado or some other serious infield hitter. Hell, maybe trade Alonso at what might be the height of his value and roll with Flores/Smith/(even Bruce I guess) at first?
  18. it's just bad luck, streakiness. Michael Conforto for whatever reason has gotten himself out of his slumps while on the road. Just odd groupings, like the way they don't score for deGrom. Matt Harvey has a higher wRC+ at home(Citi Field) this year than Frazier, Conforto, Mesoraco, Rosario
  19. I apparently haven't been in..11 years?! and as such would be no help. It's bland and generic for the most part. meh stadium. There used to be good beer and food to be had though.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: A rainy Monday rescheduled as part of a one-game series. It may be the least-poorly attended Yankees-Mets game ever despite the matchup on the marquee. I think I've read this is one of the biggest vacation times too, so probably a lot of fans out of town? This is something if the Mets were in it I'd be kinda pissed about, flying all the way past Baltimore to sit in the rain in NY. I'd love to see MLB experiment with neutral parks for things like this. Have the Yankees hang around the Bay for the 6th and have the Mets come up from LA for a day game there. Or hell, scratch the 8/20 game against the Giants entirely. (Or push for a Tuesday day-night deal?) and play the Yankees then. Yankees are home and play Marlins on Tuesday whereas the Mets are arriving home from Williamsport.
  21. If you play for pennies, there's no end of tiny independent ball leagues you could play for just from the "draw of a former major leaguer" standpoint.
  22. Baltimore about to be eliminated from the AL East. It's August 10th.
  23. Don't get angry at random allusions Mike Puma of all people is making. That sentence is such bullshit considering Alderson fits the second better than the first. Was it Puma that reported the guy complaining about not knowing who he was reporting to when the Mets brought back Minaya?
