  1. It was nice of Jeter to both suck, and get hurt, to allow HBO time to get this all filmed in time for the actual event.
  2. i believe I called 7IP for Pelf, 2 runs, 5 Ks, 0 BBs. leaves with a 6-2 lead.
  3. The special will include new interviews with his family and friends as well as Yankees executives, Legends and teammates such as Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman, Joe Girardi, Joe Torre, Curtis Granderson, Mariano Rivera, Dave Winfield, Minka Kelly, Billy Crystal, and many more. The special will debut on HBO a few weeks after the milestone is reached. Who called Billy Crystal?
  4. Hal would say that maybe Jeter should spend less time making television specials and more time focused on baseball.

It reminded me of Shea, but cleaner. since you asked.. Got stuck in traffic (that's part of the experience right?) got to the game in the third. Had a horrible stomach ache but wolved down a dodger dog anyway. Was annoyed that the stadium was so regimented that I couldn't roam around it, confined to my level. Jason Phillips was playing first base. They were playing the Cardinals. Was mostly unimpressed with the place, though the view was very nice with the Think Blue in the background. Hung around a while, left after the 7th inning stretch. I see Lilly as the kind of guy the Mets would end up with if they traded Pelfrey, which is why I don't think it's wise to trade Pelfrey. I expect the Mets to beat up on him a little though. The Dodgers gave out Jelly Beans (Ronald Reagan's favorite treat) to fans after the fireworks yesterday. Matt Kemp joins former mets Piazza (94, '96), and Sheffield '00, with 20 HR, 60 RBI and a .300 AVG prior to the All-Star Game
  6. Edgy DC wrote: It's an interesting question: Are the Yankees projected to get more performance/dollar from Jeter out of this contract than the Mets are projected to get out of Rodriguez? How about from this point forward? If you neutralize for the reality that Jeter is a PR dreambobat and Rodriguez a relative nightmare, I think the Mets would have to reject such a deal. Jeter's only a PR dreambobat as a Yankee. He's basically Luis Castillo on the Mets. (He'd have to play the Chin-lung Hu role actually) Mets probably don't derive that much value from Frankie, although they're teetering on the periphery of a 'playoff race' and perhaps removing Frankie, even at that slight downgrade, puts them out of it and makes August September uninteresting? Unless Jeter can pitch?
  7. Edgy DC wrote: Squeegies turn into doubleplays often enough also. Yeah yeah..i guess Texiera's a good fielder, but Colon and A-Rod not so much. What's the philosophy on a squeeze, where are you supposed to bunt it? towards first? Probably makes sense if the first baseman is left-handed because he'd have to pivot to throw home, and vacates first making it harder to turn 2?
  8. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Well, if the aim's to get a guy to second, a walk works just as well. Capuano got one down last night, BTW. wish Gee had bunted on Saturday. SqueEEEEZeee

  10. Yesterday I came across an old Rheingold advertisement display that used to hang in a deli in Brooklyn. "Official sponsor of the '69 World Series Mets" or some such. also had two '69 WS ticket stubs, a single dominican peso, and a fake nixon dollar protesting Vietnam or some such. Why those things were taped to this display, we'll never know. I don't know why I'm teasing this here besides that I had no time yesterday to properly photograph and post about it.

Wright stood in the batter's box and tracked pitches at one point. Ugh. This would sound great if this were April. But it sucks that it's July. I think we can forget Johan for 2011. Why? It seems like most of you don't believe in the Mets anyway, so why not have Johan throwing 'rehab' games in the major leagues in September? (And right now we're talking about 6 weeks or so, which is actually closer to the middle of August. ) Regardless, you don't get better by being idle. This is more rehab than recovery, in that he needs to build up muscles and arm strength and get his shoulder and all related throwing muscles back into shape.
  12. Edgy DC wrote: Or at least acting like one, yeah. not to mention that when he said it, 99% of Mets fans/writers didn't think he was going to get Crawford money either.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: It's a long flight to Los Angeles. You just put him in a luxury first-class seat with a pile of money on one side of him and a contract on the other. give him a double big gulp and tell him he can't get up until he signs.
  14. Edgy DC wrote: If he's out for a few days, maybe it's a good time for them to sit down. Wrap him up while he's feeling a little less invincible. He could use a little distraction from the doctor's office right?

As we walked the concourse late in the game, these made me far more irritated than hopeful. The approaches and discipline in the batter's box having been... a little intermittent, they felt like teases even as they were occurring. The ballpark had buzz, and spirit, and electricity. And as much as I can't stand watching MFY fans idle by Mama's and bitch about the prices (REALLY?), I'd rather deal with MFY fans 20 times a year in this park than the Philthy masses that came through the last time the Liberty Belles came through town. I thought it was somewhat dead after the second. At least, everyone I saw was through a depressed fog once we saw Tejada. Yankees really do have some sort of knack for pulling these random contributing players out of nowhere when they need them, just long enough. That reliever that I already forgotten by now, that hasn't allowed a run yet. They've got players hitting .240 but somehow all their hits drive in runs or they score. I think Nunez got more XBH today than Jeter did all season. ugh all around. MLB AT BAt app reminded me when i checked in that I'm 3-5 (now 3-6) at Citi Field this year.( unlessi missed a check in)
  16. section 528, row 14. Not exactly great seats to view the clobbering from. I expect a Reyes home run today.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: I agree, though. This team fought and hit and fought and hit the whole game. One break, maybe one and a half, seperated them and the Yankees. We've seen too many Mets team fall behind early and, even though the game is still within reach, go five innings without a baserunner or something. They came up short. And we know that happens. But they made the Yankees use seven pitchers (seven!) in giving up two runs. Keep grinding, good things will happen. Maybe fewer good things against top teams than against others. But the season is long and hard. Oh, and get your players back on the field. That'll help too. And sign Reyes. I don't think the Mets _made_ them use seven pitchers as much as Girardi's always been a little trigger happy.
  18. No problem with Reyes going. 1. he was safe. 2. he's supposed to be aggressive. That's his role. (Nevermind that when he sees the ball bounce of Nunez's foot and realizes he's not going after it there's not exactly time to analyze the relative benefits. He saw a chance to make it, and went. same way he tries to pick up a pitcher's move) Should he never steal, never push a double to a triple especially with two outs? Sometimes it's gonna be an out, but those are the breaks. Think about it for a second if the call goes correctly, Reyes tagged up from first on a fly ball and went to _third_. It was a pretty pivotal moment. It sucked because we didn't score, but all and all it wasn't that horrible. They got hits, got baserunners. Just so happened it was often with two outs. if they'd been leadoff guys, more opportunities to score. Really, the main difference in the game was that the hits/walks the Mets got were with outs, and the Yankees got more leadoff guys on.
  19. attgig wrote: Bay's become a walk machine If he's not gonna be an RBI machine, it's a good compromise from out machine.
  20. I love that Reyes is so awesome he can keep Cano from scoring from third on a single.
  21. I like both sets of lyrics. They could probably tweak it very very slightly.. Hot Dogs, green grass, all out ON Shea.
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Today was Kendrick. Halladay is tomorrow's starter. The real culprit here is Toronto mgr John Farrell. Jon Rauch - who has closed both before and this season w/the Jays - pitches a 1-2-3 8th on 10 pitches but gets pulled anyway (AL rules, not a PH situation) for Frank Francisco because he has the title of closer even though he's having a much worse season than Roach. Francisco promptly starts the 9th inning: Walk, Double, 2-RBI Single, Fly Out, Single before being pulled for someone else who could actually get the next two outs. Geez, at least let Roach start the freakin' inning!! ChiSox score 4 in the 7th to win 6-4. Juan Pierre triples in the winning runs. Ooops. saw all the tweets about Halladay and figured he was starting, but guess you wouldn't send him out there to do the lineup card on his own pitching day.

Chicago leading Chicago 4-4 in the 7th. ugh ugh ugh..stupid Jays give it back, for good then go down softly in the 9th. All on a Halladay start where he didn't have it..gotta win those games Jays.
