Figure if it's a lot they'd get something 'better' back. Although if they'd just released him they'd still have to pay the buyout I guess. (although get draft picks) But much like Wagner, neither guy could end up being much. neither of Wagner's PTBNL probably should've gotten much, if any, playing time.
  2. metsmarathon wrote: we had no leverage. plus, we just got $17.5M for next year. that seems like plenty. no leverage? I don't know about that. Alderson's never seemed worried about it, and it's July 13th. Leverage is created by more than one team being interested, which wouldn't have been impossible. I'm not upset that they traded him, obviously that 17.5 is helpful, especially without the buyout this way, but I'm not relishing Igarashi and wish 'named later' was 'named sooner'

It's probably going to start as Parnell, and maybe he holds on to it, but I don't think anythings going to be set in stone as that. I voted Johan though. that'd be fun. Also, Johan (although this is still a ways off) being the guy replacing him on the roster (as they did in reverse in April) would be much better than Igarashi.
  4. Was a good pitcher, nice to have. Enjoyed for the most part (more often than most anyway) that if we could get the game to the 9th, pretty much had it won. I'll remember his lambourghini too. Wish him well, Brewers were/are my Central pick, and this helps them.
  5. Okay, quick, start naming Brewers. 2 PTBNL though, seems like we could've gotten more. Guesses on the roster move? Igarashi? Thayer?
  6. Until Reyes returns, this stands as his last walk to the plate. It sounds like he's going to begin to run/sprint again when he returns to NY with Beltran and the Mets for the second half. [youtube:20v8vdyv]Z34yDhDXmG0[/youtube:20v8vdyv]
  7. TransMonk wrote: Can we sign Prince Fielder? NO!!! for like $10 bucks. he can catch right? unrelatedly, this is a weird spam comment: Despite the fact that I like Torre and that theres a Taiwanese player on the Dodger team, Im rooting for the Cubs.Theyre overdue!
  8. Can we sign Prince Fielder? 3-run home run scores Beltran. Beltran and Fielder high-five at home plate..obviously they're schmoozing for next year right? Anyway, Justin Timberlake totally seemed sarcastic when he kept saying "Joe you call a great game"
  9. It's hard to be 'upset' that the AL just took the lead, when it's off Cliff Lee, and was Adrian Gonzalez.

It's aimed at everyone, that spent all day killing the All-Star game and emphasizing that even the players don't want to be there. Almost all of them did. I don't even blame Sabathia. He wasn't selected, said he'd go on vacation, and then was named last minute anyway even though he was pitching.

There is no route 22 in Paramus (I don't think there's a Taco Bell either) not that that would stop someone with Jeter's intangibles. I'm sure with his edge Jeter can find Route 4 or 17.. That's dangerously close to my apartment for him.
  12. There were 6,865 players entered in the Las Vegas tournament, though more than one-third of them had already been eliminated heading into yesterday's action. Einhorn's 94,400 chips placed him in the top 75 and just 600 chips behind a player, interestingly enough, named Jose Reyes. 13. The best player in the league is Jose. You can pick and choose your league and Jose though.

  16. Whatcha drinking while you watch the game? Green Shocktop?
  17. soupcan wrote: Wow. Baseball actually did something that makes sense....until they decide NOT to use it at the AL park next year of course. I'd argue it _doesn't_ make sense. What better way then to get more of the stars actually into the game than pinch hitting them in the 9th spot?
  18. DocTee wrote: As a NYC transplant living in the Bay Area for 13 years....I'll never go back East. The weather alone makes it worth staying. Y'all should definitely swing by for a road trip-- I'll buy youse a beer. I could see myself living in the Bay Area. Or Hawaii (but it'd be hard to get used to 7am Mets games)
  19. soupcan wrote: Great idea -San Fran was our favorite part of the trip. Great town, nice people, good food, good park, lots of other toursity things to do. Weather was cooler than I'd expected - think mid-to-late September when packing - and I was told that is their usual summer weather. yeah, great place. only bad thing I'd say is the massive amount of homeless.
  20. 14-4 in his absence I believe. The 'off-day' thing is a small sample size, and likely not indictive of anything. If Jeter was a competitor and a winner, he'd want to be at the game and help his team, both baseball and the possible AL champs, in whatever marginal way possible. He'd want to acknowledge that someone thinks he's one of the best players (something Michael Kay states Jeter still thinks, that he always thinks he's the best player) and that his presense helps them win. It's just SO taxing to sit in an air conditioned stadium watching your teammate (real teammate, and MI partner!) play in the Home Run Derby. Put in a light workout, and play 2 innings in the field. bow out early (as many do) and take a plane home, or to Toronto. Or take the plane Wednesday. I'm sure the taxing nature of sitting first class in a plane for a trip to Canada is just oh so stressful. (nevermind that he probably flew to Tampa and then to Toronto Wednesday, if not to NY first to fly up with his team)

This all sounds very voluntary on his part but that's probably because he "played ball" with them (so to speak). But NOT going along with large men wearing badges who are under orders from autocratic assholes used to bullying people to get their own way can be a tough thing for a star-struck fan to do. indeed. it sounds voluntary, but who really knows. I'm sure they started with "Let's take you to meet Jeter, and see what types of stuff we can get you for that ball." Giving very little opportunity to think or say "I think I'll hang onto it" while being herded under the bowels of the stadium in likely a crowd of a bunch of security and executives.
  22. bmfc1 wrote: Here's an idea: why doesn't Jeter pay the guy for his taxes? That's walking around money for Jeter. cause then the guy would have to pay taxes on that money. Stupid is stupid all around. Teams give comp tickets all the time with 'no face value' on them. You wonder why? But apparently not what this guy got. Also, he should've gotten Jeter to sign the merchandise (or claim he did) rather than presigned stuff. $100 jersey isn't real expensive, and if you own it when it jumps to a signed product, that's not income.
  23. What, this isn't a good idea?
  24. just purchased my tickets for Pyrotechnics night Friday night against the team that plays in Pennsylvania.
