  1. 4-2 Rangers mostly from pulling Price if I understand Twitter correctly. (Hey, I'm on vacation, who's following now-Mets junior circuit that closely?) Listened to Gary Cohen for a bit. Was nice to hear him still/again. (That amateur b-ball thing he does doesn't count) Now that I'm back in my hotel I may mute TBS and put the radio on anyway.

I listened to this one flipping between 1700 and 700 am both which are ESPN stations in SoCal, but I'm not sure which areas. But sometimes one had reception, sometimes the other. Left Vegas at 4 ( 7 Mets standard Time) picked up the end of the broadcast of the Brewers, which then cut to Phily mid interview with the catcher (not even mid interview, it was like "How'd it feel as a rookie getting those key hits?...and the pitch by Lee..) and thanks in part to Tony LaRussa's pitching changes, the game lasted almost the entire 5.5 hour trip, ending about 10 miles outside of San Diego. Excuse me while I go give Petco park the finger for not hosting a Mets @ San Diego NLDS while i'm here. Clearly it's the park's fault.

Well Lohse certainly came apart in a hurry, huh? And now Rep-eyechart-sky throws a bunch of fat on the fire. as opposed to Reyes, who won it by bribing the official scorer to give him fake points? Did most of his hits come 'off' the field? ha. hope everyone enjoyed Phillies last win of the season.
  4. Edgy DC wrote: It's my understanding that the Mets control Paulino until next year. Like Buchholz, he became a free agent last year not because he had yet accrued service time, but because he had been non-tendered. Yeah, I'm not sure anything Rubin says about the Roster/Nickeas in barely October really is worth anything.
  5. After much research, I've decided I'm fine with Wayne as a color guy, but don't need his play by play. That's the true awkward stuff. He may tend towards some stupid analysis at times, but no more than most guys and occasionally has some fun nuggets. Not that I'd miss him if/when he's gone. Of course, he's better than Mike Francesa.

  7. Yeah. I'd keep Jason Bay. If I traded him, I'd be looking for pitching, but prospect level/young 'stud' reliever. Don't know that you get that. Duda is still a ?, though I like what he's suggesting he can do so far. Personally I think Pagan stays and is valuable, but Bay is almost the most solid spot out there, so it's probably too much to expect Sandy to worry about him as well.
  8. attgig wrote: agree with Vic. Bay is overpaid, but not has horribly as Lackey. plus, i don't know if lackey's really any better than pelfrey. The only reason I'd trade bay is to get someone who's contract ends EARLIER, not later. If you're looking for pitching, I'd think someone like Derek Lowe would be more of a trading deal. overpaid, but one year left. atl could use some OF help. that said, not likely to happen. If ryan braun wasn't in LF, maybe randy wolf could've worked too. L The Mets don't need offense. Their offense is actually quite good. You can live with a *hopefully* league averageish year from Bay.(which in the worst cases you can probably augment your LF productivity by bringing in a bench guy that hits righties well, and sitting Bay against the tougher ones) Bringing in ackey to suck in the rotation puts pressure on the other four guys to step it up if the Mets are going to be good.

But for the life of me I still can't figure out who will, with less than four hours remaining, start my Happy Birthday thread. (Does that answer that question?) Later I'll wish you a happy one here and now then, as I may gorge myself to death on the buffet at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas in about 20 minutes. Reyes' 7 didn't come up the entire hour I played Roulette. depressing.

  11. metirish wrote: Your guys must have bunted a lot , all I have to say is that I didn't finish last. I think we need to pare down the positions next year. Tired of hoping the random dregs left can be spot starters.
  12. metsmarathon wrote: i'd like to see the list of hitters who, when locked in such a tight race, and leading, did take the field on the final day. Nevermind ones playing meaningless games with a not 100% hamstring and having already hit .486 or so over the last seven days to create that lead?
  13. I'm favoring a Tigers over the Brewers WS. I picked post teams to make the playoffs, and the Tigers to lose to the Mets, so I feel comfortable with this.
  14. Okay, I'm going to Vegas. seeya. Jose Reyes.
  15. That 9th inning comeback for the Mets is looming large.
  16. Also, this is not the first time. They've been blocking each other for years, and the mayor had to step in the broker the deal for SI/Brooklyn I think. minor, but the Chris Carter blocked waiver can't help.
  17. "Then I called back - because I hadn't heard from them - and was specifically told that in exchange for a one-year waiver in Newark, they would demand territorial rights (for a minor league franchise) in either Long Island or Connecticut," Trost told the Daily News on Tuesday. Especially considering while Trenton is outside the metro area, it's just as close to tons of Mets fans like me living in North Jersey (and pretty much all of Jersey)
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Well in that case I have no idea why the Mets would have a say in or get money for a temporary move of SWB to Trenton. Maybe Trost, Levine and the Steinbrenner boys are just really nice guys (hey that's a good there FK) is that being discussed? Do the two separate leagues, neither or which is under any obligation to the Yankees, talk enough to manage those conflicting schedules? I've heard they're more likely to go north to Rochester or something. which cuts on Bisons travel. Good job by the Mets though.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Today's news also had the Mets turning down a $250,000 payment by the Yankees to relocate the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees to Newark for a single season. Chump change, but it could be read to suggest both the 'Pons and the Bud Selig are confident they're going to come out on the other side of this. That was actually yesterday's news. And screw the Yanks.
  20. MORE REYES IS ALWAYS GOOD
  21. Collins gets his extension. This is disappointing a little. I wish they'd retained some of that 'flexibility' Sandy used to talk about. Post reports that Danny Boy is staying. Not that I trust random allusions made by the tabloids.
  22. batmagadanleadoff wrote: US District Court Judge Rakoff might release his decision on the fate of Picard's claims against Sterling for damages over and above fictitious profits, as early as today. The facts seem to be that all but two counts denied, and Picard has to prove that the Wilpons knew, not just should have known, to get anything above profits.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Lefty Specialist wrote: Bunting isn't THAT bad a play if you can get the bunt down reliably. Bunting can be a useful strategy in certain situations. 1) last night wasn't one of those 2) NYM players suck at it actually, bunting first and second no out is one of those situations where the numbers suggest it's good.
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Oooh, yeah. Get it together, Mets. Meanwhile, who pulled out the plug on the triple machine? I suspect it's a combo of Reyes and Collins. And I suspect that suggestion of restraint had more to do with him hesitating around first last night, and getting thrown out when he thought the ball was going home instead of just gunning it.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: Vic Sage wrote: A quiet, contemplative, deliberately paced movie with much to say, that avoids most (if not all) sports movie cliches. I liked it alot. And Pitt's perf as aging jock seemed pitch-perfect, working well off of goofball gone straight Jonah Hill. Just enough baseball to keep it a baseball movie and not a business movie. and it makes a folk hero out of Scott Hatteberg. If I recall correctly, I thought it would die in development because sports movies need a Last Second Victory Against Improbable Odds. Vic insisted the story had enough to sail by anyhow. Looking forward to it. The book has one of these, and near the end if I recall, when the A's break the consecutive win streak record after falling behind in the game. That must have made the movie right?
