  3. I'm sure these groups don't necessarily overlap, but the next time someone brings up that every other league (not true) uses the DH, so the NL should too, I'm gonna respond with every other country uses the metric system, so let's get that one done first.

It seems to me that over the years, Hendu's Met legacy has been condensed to his walkoff against SanFran and being one of the rejects gotten in the Seaver trade. I'm going to go with no.
  5. that self-righteous vote should be Piazza's imo.

Derek Je... OH DEAR GOD THE METS ARE GOING TO HONOR DEREK JETER! The overhyped one will one day break the hearts of every Mets fan. How many votes do you suppose Jeter's gonna get his first year of HOF eligibility? He'll garner a greater percentage of the vote than Tom Terrific did, even though Jeter's not worthy of carrying Tom's jockstrap. I'm hopeful that 5 years following Jeter's retirement that many of the old-guard voters will be dead (Bill Conlin hopefully leading the pack) and replaced with edgy, contrarian Internet-age assholes like us who will put Jeter on the first ballot only to be ironic. Or something..ahem..controversial..will come out.

I was speaking not of you, but of Nieuwenhuis, not having to spend all day thinking about living up to his promotion. yeah, figured when I reread it. i'm sleepy. Maybe he'll bunt for a basehit.
  9. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The whole issue is so dumb it doesn't even merit discussion which is why Fatcessa opened his show yesterday with a blistering, revolting rebuke of the Mets for it, encouraging the worst Met fans ever to call in and pretend to be still wounded by Reyes' final game, completely ignorant of the history of similar or worse behavior in pursuit of the batting title, and unwilling to acknowledge the Mets' role (or lack of it) in Reyes' decision to sign elsewhere. Mike's such a fat ignorant asshole. He began not knowing himself the details of the "celebration" and even after being informed it was a short video just like dozens of others they'd done before, left that part out. After all the alternatives to discuss were a great win by the Mets or an awful game for the MFYs. Dick. yeah, that pretty much sums it up. I listen to the show for 25 (and 12 of that's commercials) minutes a day on my drive home because it's short enough, and it's rare that it's anything even worthy of holding my attention. It's just noise at this point. I'm pretty sure you could program a computer to spit out vaguely baseball related sentences that would be more interesting. Of course, you can then switch over to ESPN where they're discussing Tebow-Sanchez with the same faux-outrage they've had discussing this 'story' virtually EVERY DAY since Peyton signed with the Broncos.

  12. Kirk leading off. interesting switch. Happy to see Thole in there again. Can't give too many starts to Nickeas.
  13. why would I want to be in Atlanta? anyway ,12am start. early.

  17. I don't mean the big league roster, I mean the system as a whole. Perhaps the system is weak in a particular tool, you look for it a little more carefully. Catchers and Shortstops seem to be a little sparse.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Torres bats both ways, so I don't see how Baxter's leftiness gives him an edge. well, maybe he's better at being a lefty than Torres who's splitting the baby? I dunno, I guess it depends as it always has, if we're getting Torres more from 2010 than 2011. I don't see how it's anyone but Andres, Kirk, or Mike, so I suspect I'd axe Mike as the 25th guy and not exactly showing himself to be indispensable.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Which is why the first and second rule of drafting is to not even consider perceived weaknesses at the big league level when making your selections. You gotta at least have some thoughts though right? You can't end up drafting only pitchers or only power-hitting right-handed outfielders because they looked the best. It seems to me that the Mets could use some rangy guys in the system to put at the more premium defensive positions.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Would you see more utility in Torres coming off the bench than in Baxter? I think so. switch-hitter, better defense, more experience in CF. On the other hand, Baxter's the only other lefty bat and maybe could provide some pinch-hitting pop, it's hard to tell with him as he doesn't exactly have a long major league resume.
  21. high-end shortstops? Not really sure what the Mets should be targeting here. Seems like they could use "the next Reyes" that could end up in CF or SS. And pitching, always draft pitching. It's real hard to predict what the team will need when most of these guys are ready, or even how long they'll take.
  22. Well obviously Torres would have to produce, but I'd start him out as the 4th OF right now. RF defensive replacement and occasionally starting for the other two. I'd probably bat him down in the order in that way, since Collins doesn't seem to like to disrupt the batting order. I might consider a Torres-Tejada-Wright-Ike-Bay-Duda-Murphy-Thole line up though. Or Torres-Tejada-Ike-Wright-Duda-Murphy-Bay? he's not coming back this weekend though, so we've got probably at least twice as much data to work with when he is. If no outfielders are struggling, they can have him pitch middle relief for all it matters because we're probably winning.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: They should lock him in a room with Suzyn Waldman for 48 hours. Hmm..I wonder what John Sterling did?
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Pulling an effective starter after five makes me blue. BLUE! well, the guy's shoulder is newly surgically repaired. On the other hand, I'd rather he build up to 110-115 pitches now with the extra day of rest before and after, so that maybe 100-110 isn't as much as a strain when he doesn't have the extra day.
  25. wonder if the Mets consider(ed) flip-flopping Santana and Dickey so they don't have to worry about start-stopping Johan. I imagine they'll still try to keep Johan just shy of 100 pitches though, hoping for a good 6 this time.
