  1. Mets place INF Ronny Cedeno on the 15-Day DL with a left intercostal strain & recall RHP Jeremy Hefner from Buffalo.
  2. Hefner's probably emergency in case of burning out pitchers with a reliever starting. or they could activate him for Cedeno to backup Batista, and then send him down for Valdespin.
  3. Of course, this not even official yet, game time in 40 minutes..
  4. he doesn't walk, which is biggest issue.
  5. Street parking. one way streets. I usually park by the X's depending where I'm headed (east or west on the GCP) Can usually park along 114th too.
  6. I feel Turner or Cedeno or Baxter (Cedeno supposedly not visible in Adam Rubin's "try to count 25 guys on the field" game) wouldn't garner Valdespin, who I prseume they'd want to start?
  7. Apparently someone 'may' be disabled in the next hour or so. No specifics beyond that, even to the point of it Terry's headed to the clubhouse with a cudgel or just if we're waiting to see if someone feels better.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I was kind of thinking that they might temporarily swap Batista's spot for a reliever. Not sure what's going on with Valdespin, though. I figure either Baxter is on his way out, or there's some injury to an infielder or outfielder that we haven't yet heard about. yeah, weird that it's both. Valdespin doesn't really appear to fill any need. Hefner for Batista is sort of something you'd consider anyway, but Batista doesn't actually have options right? Batista released for Valdespin to get a PH in the night game and then Hefner for him afterwards?
  9. Nymr83 wrote: I think the formerly free parking under the overpass that was alluded to above is now a pay lot, no? The _lot_ is a pay lot, but the spots actually under Northern blvd are still free. They stopped letting you park on the GCP->NB ramp grass in like 2005. There used to be some spots near college point blvd that freed up after 5 just over the bridge, but I haven't tried over there in ages. cutting through the junkyards is a nice shortcut to the GCP east if you go that way. Going the otherway (or to the whitestone expressway) you're best exit is the one walking towards the GCP from the Rotunda. empties out right there if you're in the back lot.

  11. HahnSolo wrote: $19 in the lot last year, not sure about this year. If I'm with the family, I bite the bullet and park in the lot. If I'm alone or with friends, I look for a spot over behind the Holiday Inn in that neighborhood. $20 this year. yeah, that's where I usually park. The problem is parking there isn't easy on weekends or if you're too late on weekdays because lots of people park there and people get home from work. Can be a pain to get to the GCP west from there though, usually end up dealing with Astoria blvd and traffic lights tothe bridge. or making the illegal left off roosevelt to the entrance ramp. in the lot is easy, and oddly enough if you go in via roosevelt avenue at like 7 you end up parking ~Shea.
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: if I lived close to the 7 or along the Port Washington branch of the LIRR. yeah, that's where it's most convenient. I'd heard they'd talked about making the other lines hit Citi Field on game days, but I don't think it happened. When I tried on LI I'd have to transfer at Woodside back east, then at Jamaica. Unless I got really lucky it was 90 minutes or so to Valley Stream, driving would get me there before Mets Extra was over. It's the same in Jersey, only worse because the schedule from Penn for NJT is horrible. And I can still get home by the end of Mets Extra if I park there. Sometimes even if I park for free in Corona. It's the same predicament for Yankee Stadium. I could drive there in 15, it'd take me at least 90 minutes via train. Mets Willets Point wrote: I'm not arguing that driving is not convenient just that there should be a cost for that convenience. The Mets could probably raise parking another $5 easily. probably even $10. we'd bitch about it..and then just pay it.

Mets Willets Point wrote: I'm of the opinion that anyone who drives to Fenway or Wrigley or MFY Stadium or Citifield or anywhere else well served by public transit deserves to pay the nose for parking. It's the fair cost of the convenience of bringing your own vehicle when it's not necessary to do so. I expect Miami has little to no public transit though. yeah, I don't think that location is mass transit friendly for Miami. None of those other stadiums are mass transit friendly for me. There is something to being able to hop in your car 5-10 minutes after the game ends and be on your way home. almost always way faster than mass transit.
  14. Wednesday.
  15. So down-side: Lincecum getting rained out yesterday and going in the first game means I'm not going to the game tonight. (Wife likes to see Timmy pitch) up-side: I casually mentioned that the Giants still go to Philadelphia, so I may have gotten myself an excuse to mock that stadium for the first time since early 2007, praise their beer list, and root for the away team. I'm determined to go the the gym after work, which may include a fight to make them put on SNY.
  16. Nymr83 wrote: Yankee Stadium is worse, you have people placing cones in public parking spaces to "sell" them to drivers. and the lots are like $45.
  17. This is like the Opposite of Spahn and Sain and pray for rain isn't it? I know weather reporters are notoriously spotty, but sometimes I wished they'd do better about retroactively raining games out. Why not play the doubleheader Saturday? Like "hey, it's not raining, we're here, why not just keep playing?" I like the 6 hours of baseball and all, but I don't like the Miguel Batista scenario.
  18. Gee wiz it's supposed to rain hard huh?
  19. themetfairy wrote: Stupid girl thinks her mom can send a lion from the zoo to the bank via cellphone photo. that one's sorta cute, but i thought the point of easy access check depositing (get on that BoA) would save you from having to deposit checks at the zoo.
  20. It seems very unlikely this game is happening. (It's supposed to SNOW in Buffalo?) beatees tweeting about it raining and the gates not open to public yet. apparently the Bobblehead has a patch of dirt on the knee.
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I know this really doesn't mean much at this point, but Jason Bay currently leads the Mets in runs scored, with 8. (Nieuwenhuis has 7, Tejada and Duda have 6.) Baxter seems to be an okay player, but unless someone else gets hurt, I think he'll be headed for Buffalo when Torres returns. probably, Baxter hasn't gotten enough reps in the majors to think he sucks ( or even bench-sucks), but I know Terry said he wanted to get a start, so this seems about as good a time as any to do it. of course, they might not play at all, in which case getting one end of a doubleheader makes sense. speaking of Mike's at Citi Field..I should probably leave. Seems very unlikely they play, but I'd had to miss out on a bobblehead..

  23. and oddly, Red Sox are in better position this year than last. Aceves gave up most of the runs right? former Yankee who is actulaly pretty good?
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The one move I really liked was Terry pulling Francisco before the lead was lost. In recent years, that has become something of a taboo for some bizarre reason. The closer never seems to leave the game before the lead is completely blown. The Giants announcers even raised their eyebrows at that. (I didn't see their eyebrows, but I heard them.) Terry, at least this is the way I saw it, was annoyed that he started giving up hits. He seemed to infer that he's still "the closer" but it sounded like he wanted to put Pelfrey back out there, but getting Francisco 'back on the horse' was important, and Francisco rolled out the "not getting enough work" excuse so that played in as well. The vibe I got from Terry about it was that he'll try to get him the work, and he knows he'l be upset he was pulled, but he has to perform to get work. But maybe I'm just hearing what I want to hear.
  25. It's gotta be Murphy right? reliever if we need him, catcher, he'll even manage if all the coaches get thrown out.
