  1. oh yeah, and don't forget Darling's "THERE IS NO BOOK!" rant about innings limits for young pitchers. "You did everything by the book and look what happened, he had Tommy John in his first season. Congratulations. Good job. THERE IS NO BOOK!"
  2. press conference coming. Having (and promoting) a press conference for a guy that got in trouble for public comments feels weird.
  3. Centerfield wrote: Throw Captain Kirk in there. I had no idea that this guy was so big. Who's down in Buffalo playing LF? Let's get rid of Bay and field a full team of homegrowns. yeah, he's huge. No one else on the 40man. Lagares and den Dekker maybe the next two depth wise? Valdespin?
  4. lol, David Ortiz got thrown out trying to steal. And had the nerve to argue the call.
  5. we'll see on that. I hope Collins doesn't lock himself into one lineup and if/when Ruben struggles a little he's not afraid to mix it up a bit. I almost want to put Bay there. Can still walk, mostly a singles hitter.. very lefty heavy lineup though. Heard talk about even batting Nieuwenhuis leadoff in that regard.
  6. TransMonk wrote: Very much yes. I love what Ruben has done at the top of the order and I'm really impressed with Thole's at-bats and what looks to be improved defense. It's only been four games, but I like what I've seen from almost the whole team. Ike needs to get right, but I think he will. And the other guy..well.. It might not be Nieuwenhuis who has to watch for Torres' return.
  7. Yes. I actually thought Josh gets a bad rap. His poor start last year colored the whole season, and I do think he improved. So far Niese too. Hoping to see something solid from Gee. There's a lot of "still improving" on this team. And Wright and Pelfrey aren't above putting the work in to continue to improve. But Josh/Ruben. yeah. Tejada's so young. Glad to see he's off to a nice start and getting in the middle of things. Hope he continues to adjust as the league adjusts back.
  8. yup. He's good. Obviously he was particularly on point last night, but this is why he won an Emmy (Emmy's the right award right? he won something..). Keith's good at this too though. They both are so keen to what's going on and what players are trying to do out there. And Gary's good about knowing when to shut up and just let them speak. There are times when you can probably imagine that you're overhearing conversations they probably had on the mound 25 years ago talking strategy. And that's why they're so awesome at this.

  11. and I'll be there! Wonder if they sit Ike really, given he doesn't have a hit.

Not sure we deserved to win that game -- got out-hit, so-so starting pitching, we got a couple of generous calls on the bases & at the plate -- but that's why it's nice that we did. Nats got so-so starting pitching as well, played badly defensively, and stopped hitting after the third inning.
  13. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Speaking of getting claimed by the Astros, did F-Mart go north -- well, west -- with the club? no, but he's 6/16 in the minors with a HR, 2 double and a walk.
  14. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Doesn't matter! If I wrote a book called "To Slay a Mockingbird" I'd still get in trouble! Do the Metsblog guys read the Pool? it's an SNY thing, Metsblog is just linking to it. Still don't know the answer though.
  15. haven't used it before. via Ted Berg: This year, the Web videos formerly known as The Baseball Show will be called various different things depending on their content. The out-of-town scouting reports are now known as Know Your Enemy, which means our video producers will have to stomach a seasons worth of me trying to make Tom Morello guitar noises before and after we film every single time we film, because Im like that.
  16. Phillies drop the home opener. aww. Giants @ Rockies and Angles @ Twins starting soon, everything else tonight.
  17. Reyes thrown out trying to steal third with two outs. Hamels just fielded a ball and threw it to first..no one was covering. Bonificio ends up on third.

They have a very good beer culture. 2-0 fish now. Juan Pierre playing left field "Not blessed with a strong arm" according to the Phillies announcers.
  19. A Boy Named Seo wrote: So this league is run by fangraphs? how do you like it so far compared to the Yahoo's and ESPN's? less polished for sure, but it's newer and basically supported by a singular programmer. I enjoy the auction format of it, and the keeper/dynasty format of it. more 'serious' because you have to manage the cap and consider every move as it would affect it.
  20. Gwreck wrote: I used to hate the Marlins a ton but most of the offending players there are gone -- no more Cody Ross, Dan Uggla, Alfredo Amezaga, Scott Olsen, Miguel Olivo, et al. There is still nothing redeemable about the Phillies. I'm only looking at it in a "root for the 'better' team to lose because it makes the division title more attainable for the Mets" way. I don't think I hate any of the Marlins particularly.
  21. Ryan Zimmerman had an off season last season, mostly in the HR department. He dealt with injuries, specifically that 6-pack muscle that Wright hurt this spring. They tinkered with his throwing motion coming back from that, and it supposedly messed him up defensively a bit. He's 1/11 to start the season. He's pushing for his 500th RBI, so maybe that's in his head? Also 50 or so hits from 1000. He's signed to a long term deal through at least 2019, so he'll smash all the DC longevity records. In healthy years Zimmerman is a hight .800s OPS guy, when he has to fight injuries like last year or in 2008, he's dropped below .800.
  22. think I'm 'rooting' for the Marlins in that one.
  23. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Ceetar wrote: I may have missed this, it being EAster and all, but I assume Francisco is unavailable for saving games tomorrow. rauch then? Ramirez? Bobby? Pelf for nine strong, obviously. Well, yes, I'm drinking with brunch. Why do you ask? He's a horse, but it's his first start! He'll pitch 8, the mets will have a 25-0 lead, and Justin Turner will pitch the 9th.
