  1. Phillies OBP leaderboard, in order: Juan Pierre, Laynce Nix, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee, Joe Blanton.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I admit that if I didn't have a since-childhood affinity and affection for these characters, I probably wouldn't have gone to see the movie. (But I might have watched it when it came to cable.) But I do have that affection, and seeing a movie like this makes me feel like a kid again. And I think that that's the level that it works at, for me. well considering that it broke records either there are a lot of childhood-affinities or people are seeing it because.. I dunno?
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: This wish that, when the current deal is up, some other network is going to first out-bid FOX for rights to the package and then have no problem with other outlets eating into the network's market share by putting games opposite the ones they just bid lots of millions for is absurd. The wish is for a better deal on MLB's part, and it's not absurd. It's about freely being able to access all of major league baseball games, and highlights, and all that goes along with it. How exactly does it hurt Fox for me to be able to access highlights while they're airing the game? particularly of the game I'm watching? But even so, do they really think that the ability for me to click on a highlight of a Pujols home run on my phone/computer is going to make or break my decision to watch the game? Why should I be at the whim of Fox's "Okay lets show you some highlights from other games" which actually detracts from the quality of the broadcast they're giving anyway? The whole idea of "If you want to see any baseball whatsoever you will watch what I tell you, when I tell you" is so anathema to how we consume content today. But it's about leverage. It's not about what Fox wants, it's about MLB promoting MLB. Fox wants these games for ratings, obviously, but what we (or I anyway) are asking for is that MLB stand their ground and say "You can have all of this, but..." and stop giving away our options. Demand the right to be able to air a 9th inning of a no-hitter on their own network if they want. Demand the ability to at least give us the highlights. Plenty of people are busy Saturday afternoons but would love to pull up Duda's Grand Slam on the phone while getting kids ready for little league or picking up dinner that weren't watching Fox anyway. Understand more about these rediculous blackout zones so that far flung fans, of which there are millions, are not at Fox's whim about what to watch. I'd be willing to bet that there are more fans in say Tampa Bay that would rather watch the Mets and would turn that on if they the option than Mets fans that will watch Rangers vs. Angels just becuase it's the only thing on.
  4. I think "The best thing since the Internet" would be more apropos. I've got no real love of pre-sliced braed, just gets staler faster that way.
  5. I doubt it. I figure it's 50/50 that he doesn't even ever year of it. it's like 350 shirts in the left field landing and the beat guys generally ignore this kind of thing so it's not like he's going to be shown it.
  6. it's early for this, but I'd be all in for a campaign against these things at the end of next year, including refusing to watch Fox baseball at all. Not that I think much would come of it.
  7. bmfc1 wrote: attgig--Wait until the evening of June 23 when the Mets are playing the MFYs but those of us in the Washington and Baltimore areas will not get that game because FOX is also showing Nationals-Orioles. Of course, Selig could have told FOX that the games not shown in the local market had to be placed on Extra Innings and mlb.tv but that would have required some backbone and standing up to his "television partner" so it didn't happen. when's the deal up? not that I have faith in them coming up with a better arrangement.
  8. Vic Sage wrote: Two firstbasemen have been worse than Davis and haven't lost their jobs yet? Pujols (CA) and Smoak (SEA); Albert ain't losing anything, but Smoak could get sent down. i should just subscribe to B-R so I can see these full lists better. if you go by OPS+ Ike jumps ahead of Gaby Sanchez.
  9. not a fan of this one. I liked the Buddy Alderson one though.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Guys, I work for a religious organization. In an open cube. Be cool about nsfw images, man. I'm always disappointed when I go to the Red Light Forum.
  11. Davis 3.0 Torres 2.0 Turner 1.5 Gee 1.0 Wright 1.5 Acosta 0.5 Nieuwehuis 0.5
  12. I have a feeling it ends here. Doesn't Wright's DNA go waaaaay back too?
  13. The Mets are 4-6 in their last ten games when playing a regular-season game at a stadium for the first time. What were those 10 stadia? (And which four did they win?) Hmm. Nats Park (won?) Yankee Stadium III (lost?) Citi Field: lost RFK: (Won?) Busch Stadium (III?): Won.(swept actually. This was the 2006 ring ceremony) I'm murky on the others. Could be PNC and AT&T. I suspect Turner Field and Minute Maid are not in the last 10. There are probably a couple of interleague parks in there since then. Angel Stadium? (was the 2008 Willie firing the first time there?) Ballpark at Arlington?
  14. I loved it, most entertaining movie I've seen in a while. Vic's synopsis fits pretty well. What it does do is makes me want to grab some some of comic/trade paperback/app to read some Avengers comics (and other associated Marvel fun stuff) since I didn't read much of it when I was younger. My main exposure was probably video games, specifically Marvel Ultimate Alliance which the floating airship really nails. So now to figure out where to get said comics. Also, I mentioned this in the other thread, but they certainly did plant seeds for a Civil War angle. Not saying they're planning on doing that, but there were definitely a couple of tie-ins that fit.
  15. re-reading this it really just sounds like they're cleaning up the wording to make it like it was probably originally intending. you have to step off to throw to a base. If you step towards third without stepping off, which is what Soriano does in the article above, that'll be a balk, as it probably should've been all along. Where is the original wording? If you're just faking anyway, how is it different than faking to the plate? It's purposely deceiving the runner, which is the point of a balk rule to begin with. This is way more a balk than say flinching. I'm not sure the balk should be eliminated, but it'd be nice to see things like dropping the ball not ruled a balk.
  16. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Thanks, boys. Good info. Staring at some prom infield 514, row 4's that I might pull the trigger on. The box equiv is 404, row 4 and those look alright, too. Not planning on being a #bigballer beyond that price range, I don't think. Will share if things fall into place & I end up booking something. I'd do 514 over 404. (which is outfield. but not a bad spot) 404 probably gets you promenade club access if that's your thing. It's not really much in there though. However, you're closer to the Alyssa Milano Touch shop.
  17. simply comment 10000 times and track it over there <--- that's what I'm doing.
  18. I don't think they have that much of a disadvantage. step off, fake throw to third. If runner at first is going on movement, you'll have time to turn around and fling it there anyway. I wonder what the numbers are for successful fake to third throw to firsts versus E-1s allowing the runner at third to score?
  19. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: What Cee said. Also, ideally, you'll want something in Row 2 or above-- Row 1 is usually directly behind the glass partition guiderail for the stairs to each section, and-- unless you're planning on growing a foot or two before coming this way-- makes seeing the game a chore. yeah, glass partition can be a pain if that bothers you. more an issue in the Box/Gold seats but depending on your seat and angle I guess there are spots in infield reserved where it bothers you too. or just pick a middle of the row seat. or row two. lower number seats are closer to home plate. I don't know how many seats in each row. more importantly, the 'craft beer dugout' is located in the promenade food court which is behind home plate (it's physically above the rotunda) it's a small stand off to the first base side of the giant baseball on the ground. YOu might not be able to make out the baseball though, because there's another beer stand on top of it. This one the Big Apple Brews which has the anheuser busch/inbev/craft brewery alliance stuff. decent selection there too.
  20. bah. keep it. just what we need, more balk rules. that said, be consistent with it. If it's a balk now, call it one. is it? and why can't you fake to first throw to third?
  21. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Hey yall - Prominade Gold versus Promenade Box/Infield/Reserved? Worth the extra $20? Thinking about a #summervacay #hotticket Probably not. I'd just get the Promenade Infield of that. Unless you're itching to go to the Ceasar's Club (which Gold gets you) Gold is the 'front' section (like Upper Reserved versus Upper Box) behind home plate. Promenade Infield can extend out to the bases, but is usually just fine. Promenade Box is all the non-behind home plate Promenade front sections. They're allfairly nice but if you get too far out in the outifled with them you'll have trouble with seeing the left fielder.
  22. they sold standing room this Opening Day too. so far they've only done it for premium games, but I imagine if they started selling out regular games they'd add cheap SRO too. And expensive ones when they finally make the playoffs.
  23. Angels are at 874. Astros at 765. not keeping up at all. Cardinals lead the pack with 1995.
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Good call. Thanks. I guess that makes him the first Met ever so placed. might actually be the first player so placed, but I haven't been keeping track. It's new this year right?
  25. Thole's on the 7 day DL.
