  2. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Kirk Nieuwenhuis caught stealing on an off-speed pitch, having slid past the bag. Not the most committed of jumps. More like a "might as well" jump. hit and run? (I sound like Keith) Howie says he kept his foot on, bad call.

Yeah, so see you all there. Doing a solo act or may hook up with the hooligans. Let me know if you come by! skipped this homestand as a "hey, not going saves like $100 towards Germany" fund. next time.
  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'll be far more excited when we find out that Citi Field is going to host a World Series game. This is unrelated to that. I'll be more excited when they start adding beer to the water cooler at work.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: Be in the moment, man! Have we learned nothing from R.A. Dickey? I learned stuff. I'll never try to swim across the Missouri river.
  6. so after 2013..when again? 2043?
  7. G-Fafif wrote: I'm pretty sure it was Marty Noble who told our little Amazin' Tuesday group in 2010 that the C had been offered to DW and he didn't want it. People and preferences change, but Marty's take was David didn't need/want that sort of designation even though he was the de facto Man by then already. Nice shirt, though. Did he? The way I recall it (I wasn't at the Amazin' Tuesday event) Manuel didn't actually want to give him a C. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Team doesn't need a captain and Wright probably doesn't wanna be it anyway. Sure he'd say yes if they asked him but imagine the extra pressure it'll bring the next time he goes into one of those funks. No thunks! Well, he's already the captain. actually giving him the C is just a way to celebrate it. Yeah, when he's having a funk or does something people don't like the talk radio will be all "But a captain can't behave like that!" but screw 'em, they're gonna say crap like that anyway. It's really just another way to market your star player. Obviously all the talking heads care about his championships, which is why the clearly not a captain captain across town gets very little crap, but you shouldn't cater to those people, cater to the fans that love Wright and don't mind another reason to celebrate him.
  8. I've been beating this drum for years. It's only become that much more obvious. He's on his third GM and fourth manager.
  9. I'm even looking forward to the Futures game and celebrity softball event. Home Run Derby is gonna be a lot of fun too. Left field seats? stand on the bridge for the true bombs? Porch?
  10. unless I missed this (which is possible, this hasn't interested me a whole bunch), left undissected was Terry's statement that he would've hit a Brewer if the situation had been reversed. Also that the ump was maybe overzealous there and likely none of this happens if he doesn't eject Carrasco.
  11. This amuses me, so I'm going to share it. Ike/Wright's combined slash line: .285/.418/.455
  12. maybe he's mad cause if he got plunked that'd put him back at .500 OBP.
  13. G-Fafif wrote: We just lost 8-0, Terry had a strange postgame presser and it's the middle of May, yet somehow I find myself thinking, "I wouldn't bet against us in a one-game playoff." If there is one thing I've learned, it's NEVER bet against Santana.
  14. David's not dumb, he knows the media ,at least some media, loves to run with inmates controlling the asylum stuff. I'm just glad he didn't have any fried chicken after Collins took him out.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: And of course, he's spent much of his Mets career doing just that. Is there any reason his 2011 chapter was interspersed into little chapterlets dispersed through the book? It didn't really help the narrative. My guess is that the book comes to the dramatic conclusion in 2010, and the rest is boring tiresome "Life After Garp" epilogue, but he had this extra material by the time he was finished, and it would have been conspicuous had they left 2011 out, so they chopped it up and turned it into garnish. Poor 2011! year, it was a little weirdly spaced, but I did enjoy a bunch of that 2011 stuff (Pelfrey and Dickey jumped a fence to kick field goals in Spring Training for instance) so i'm glad it didn't get cup.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Is it me or does Ricky Weeks always seem to break out of extended slumps while playing the Mets? I dunno, I had him subbing in in a fantasy league until yesterday when I benched him.

  20. kte wrote: KTE Trivia: The Mets are 4-6 in their last ten games when playing a regular-season game at a stadium for the first time. What were those 10 stadia? (And which four did they win?) so which were they?
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He's just being a pessimist, as always. basically. Luckily Wright's not anywhere near as close to free agency as Reyes was, so there is no counter-offer/other option. Yet.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: We should be so lucky to have him be Benitez-like. he's gonna be the opposite, crappy during teh regular season but lights out during the big games down the stretch and in the playoffs.
  23. Ashie62 wrote: Ceetar wrote: Edgy DC wrote: What's to disbelieve? You don't think they're going to make an offer? Tim McCarver said there was no way this could happen. it's all machinations until his name is on the piece of paper. Until then, i'm just gonna watch the games. You still want Reyes back. no, i'm just THRILLED with Ronny Cedeno.
  24. I've decided to be Contrary. Dickey saves all games, except for the ones he starts in which he throws complete games. there. Parnell's been the best reliever, at least if you're factoring in IP and not considering Bydrak. If you want to put your best pitch in at the end, he's it.
