  1. Can they make a Civil War movie? That'd be freaking awesome.

When the value he brings at the major league level outweights the growth he needs and can get at AAA.. but that's not a measurable amount. It could be Tuesday in Philadelphia. It could be Tuesday, April 9th, 2013.
  4. I don't think the desire to give Hefner a start is going to delay them pulling the trigger on a move though, it's more dependent on the price. But a good Hefner start may give Sandy leverage to not seem as desperate and offer less? also, Pelfrey's eligibility for the 60day DL opens up a roster spot for such a move.

  6. Edgy DC wrote: They've been so deliberate, I would thing they're bound to throw Hefner into the breach at least once before they make a move. Well, definitely on that. And I guess he could wow them or something, but prepare for the possibility that he gives up 15 runs.. May 14th is probably that second start for that spot.

Given we have Valdespin, Havens, Turner, etc who could also play 2B, still wonder about this. (I'm not in a hurry to flip the guy, I love him, it's just... what else is there to trade?) Depends if we're talking solid contributor or veteran 5th starter that'll keep him in the game. I'd probably part with prospects for the first, Turner for the second. I guess it depends on the front offices thinking. Murphy, if it's determined to be okay at second, as a long term solution? Or is the hope to have one of those prospects demand the spot and Murphy's eventually trade bait anyway? Are the Mets actually looking for a 'stop gap'? under the premise that you can never have too much pitching, do you grab someone that's better than that and figure a hole will open up? Mets don't owe Young anything, and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Harvey didn't come up this year (or came up into a 6 man rotation, or something else)
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'd take Halladay blowing a 6-run lead (not to mention scoring 13 runs and losing) as a signal the Phils really don't got it in 2012. That's the kinda thing the 2009 Mets would do. I've long since decided none of it means anything and there are no 'signs' of a team that's going to be a 'winner' or a 'loser' and I just take solace in that the Mets sent Schwinden to the mound, the Tigers Verlander, and the Phils Halladay and all three teams got the same result out of the game.
  9. rooting for the Nats to beat up on the Diamondbacks and wear out the bullpen( but still lose)
  10. Crazy baseball day yesterday. and to think people were watching hockey. (joking) MLB tweeted this last night: Carlos Beltran has 2 homers and 7 RBIs and IT'S THE FOURTH INNING he didn't add too much more, just a couple hits. 4/5 on the night, but that's pretty neat. (off A.J. Burnett)

  12. When you search "Schaefer Mets" for a good photo, you get a lot of links back here.

exciting. Maybe we can get a solid craft beer bar in there for pre/post game drinks better than McFaddens.
  14. losing streaks build character and keep teams from getting complacent right?
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I might consider something like making Manny the long/spot man. Remember when we had Aaron Sele on the roster all year and never needed him? oh, we needed him. he got a lot of work down the stretch somehow. edit: looked it up. not really a lot of work, but five September appearances, and only managed not to give up a run once. (that crazy game against Florida a week to go on the last day of RFK) he retired after that. I hadn't known that.
  16. teams showed a quick hand in the past, with promotions and releases and what not. I think Acosta probably has some cache of good appearances over the years built up to save him, but the other two have no place.

  18. You guys will dig this quote from Josh Lewin ( in re strikeouts): "When you're having more than one, Schafer's the guy to pitch to." and I'll follow that up with reminding you to read Greg's paper from Hofstra. good stuff. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2012/05/02/our-shared-language-besides-rats/
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Jesus H, Ceetar. They were in September, he was giving up 2 runners an inning, and he only got out of the 5th once. They've lost every game he's ever pitched. I was really only looking for 3 runs 5 innings, which he did the last three starts. not a high bar, but I figured that was 'doable' for the Mets to overcome. 5 in 3 not so much. I imagine there is an easy transfer at JFK or LGA to http://www.buffaloairport.com/ Well, he threw the same pitch, to the same batter, in the same spot. 'big league' stuff or not, you can't do that.
  20. the 4 last year were at least competitive and he was striking some guys out. Hasn't done this yet this year. Might not.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: aaaaand, a 3 run homer. Ends here for Schwinden, just has to. well, if he can settle down and only allow the 3 through 5-6..maybe..but yeah, let's see Hefner?
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The MLB.com box score shows Duda available on the bench, but the box score on Yahoo.com (which I trust a bit less) shows Nieuwenhuis as a sub for Duda. the lineup card in the dugout shows Duda available in the lh batter column.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Duda not in game after all. Neiuwy in left. Schwinden walks shitty leadoff hitter, who steals on next pitch. given the lineup is the 'same' I wonder if Duda was technically replaced after the lineup cards exchanged?
  24. oh yay, Tejada thrown at third to start the game.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Ike needs to hit a few shots off or over the fence before he earns his way back up to 6th is what this really is about. But still. It drove me nuts these last few nights to see Torres getting up there in the middle of everything. Ceets, that's your cue. Where are you on this one, man?! me? I'm already nuts. I'm the 4sq mayor of the place. I think I like your lineup better. Torres up front. I don't like Hairston cleanup though he has hit sorta well lately.
