  1. I don't doubt that the Mets were whiny brats with him, opting for conservative PRP and stem cell stuff over actual cutting, but even still, how did they not allow him to get the surgery in like August/September of 2019 if the recovery was only going to be a few months? Like what's the logic in that? Did anyone really think a rusty Jed Lowrie was potentially what the Mets needed to either clinch or win the playoffs? Jeff ain't great at logic but I also don't think he cares about players as people so if someone presented a "we're gonna cut him up and he'll be fine by spring" option why would he ignore that? And as far as I know the Mets haven't overhauled the medical teams (that we know of?) so the same people trotting out conservative treatments are still there making these decisions.
  2. Was gonna buy these but the first drop sold out immediately. Check these out. [FIMG=1300]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ex_cJHvXIAEwbUt?format=jpg&name=4096x4096[/FIMG] [FIMG=1200]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EylKSsaUYAESeP4?format=jpg&name=large[/FIMG]

  4. I'm gonna need a little more than the umps description of that as the rule, I feel like if you turn out of the way and happen to turn INTO the strikezone it's still a HBP no? But that rule has always been pretty weird and stupid. edit. looked it up: ( He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball; If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched. Of course, "was a strike" is subjective (well, it is with human umps) and it's not like Comforto's pitch was down the middle. it was on the corner. Also if interest, because I've seen this called wrong: A batter is out WHEN (f) He attempts to hit a third strike and the ball touches him; I've definitely seen (Duda I think) players called out for accidentally swinging while dodging when it was a ball, which does NOT qualify for this.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Good chance he gets dril't tomorrow. Saturday. but yeah, and good, that means he won the game today AND helped win on Saturday and support deGrom! But that McNeil bat flip coupled by this? Saturday gonna be interesting. Let's just hope they're not pre-warned and deGrom get's stupidly prematurely ejected by accidentally grazing someone.
  6. I actively dislike the digital "Justworks" logo superimposed on the pitcher's mound. I'd like to leave a virtual coil right on top of that. yeah, it's very poorly done. I also dislike the adoption of the stupid pcrichards jingle for strikeouts, can't make fun of the yankees for it anymore.
  7. things I've learned reading that post: I don't like the strip at the bottom. rectangle is better, more visible in one eye glance. I don't like all the graphics. I prefer a bug w/o team logos or graphics, I want it to be DATA, and somewhat flat display. Information, not aesthetic. I'd like if more of them kept the pitch count up there permanently, though I do like seeing what the last pitch was too. I'd leave that up too, though i admit that might be bordering on too much info at once. 99mph, slider, ball, would be nice.
  8. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=59773 time=1617731513 user_id=68] Why would anyone ever wanna buy a house knowing that Mother Nature could destroy it through no fault of the homeowner?
  9. apparently Mets are not part of this series but will wear their blacks when they face the Marlins who are.
  10. saw someone theorize that the black might just be part of this, and not an independent decision by any means. Fits with Cohens style of playing coy and promising things that are already happening.
  11. Why would any team want this All-Star Game, having been pulled from another team with few of the benefits that go with hosting a game? It might have been a better solution to have the Braves keep the game, but allow or even encourage, the players to wear some kind of personal statement on their jerseys. Why would another team want to host a future game, knowing it takes at least a year of preparation and could be pulled away at nearly the last minute for reasons that have nothing to do with the team? Why would Dick Monfort want to curry favor with the league, help out, be a good MLB citizen? Maybe so they look the other way as he bumbles the franchise around? I don't think the Wilpons ever really got to the point where they would've been forced to sell, but being good buddies with MLB and playing nice and abiding by unwritten draft rules, letting them test statcast or anything else, humidors, etc, etc and all that rich boys club stuff certainly gave them a buffer that others might not have had.
  12. =Fman99 post_id=59690 time=1617708743 user_id=86] I am willing to concede that Pillar saved them a run with that strong throw to get the runner at 3rd. He also barfed with the bases loaded in the 4th, so maybe he saved one run and cost his team two others.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Can anybody even present any data showing that this is actually saving arms? it's so hard to tell. modern medicine makes things better, we know more about conditioning in general. Guys were pitching hurt, so even if it seemed like they weren't getting hurt back then they probably were. A lot of this stuff does make sense, from a muscle/workout standpoint right? Repetitive strain, cooling down and getting warm again, recovery times. but 100 pitches, and hell, even every 5th day are just made up benchmarks. You obviously can't trust a pitcher to be honest with you, but I'm like 99.9% positive that between statcast and pitching coaches, you can detect when a pitcher is starting to actually fatigue, and deGrom wasn't there. Look at his release point! his velocity! hell, maybe even subtle changes to pace could indicate fatigue. But just counting innings? nah.
  14. nah, cause he said 100 pitches earlier in the day. They purposely skipped Lucchesi so he can pitch on Saturday. Either you're going to ease him into it or not. Innings against the Phillies are arguably more important than innings against the Marlins. Rather him to 7/95 here and 6/77 Saturday than the other way around. I guess the skipping Lucchesi is to try to squeeze one more deGrom start into the season since everything's getting more compact, but like, There are a lot of off days in April and I'd be good money they're not going to keep deGrom on every 5 days that entire time anyway. But either way, stop coming up with convoluted metrics and 'ups' and reasons and just tell us you guys determined he'd was reaching the end of his endurance

  16. I get that it's the first start after a long lay off (thanks Nats) and a long season after a short one, but nothing nothing Rojas or the Mets have shown over the years suggests that that was even 10% of the reasoning. And even if it was, it's some sort of weird emotional adherence to some pseudoscience guessing about what is good or bad for a pitcher's health/arm. I'm still pissed they fired Beltran and I don't know why you'd just roll with the previous GMs second-ish choice after a disappointing underperforming season.
  17. the .299 is actually his christian name. named for Saint Tom Pagnozzi

  19. no way to keep that one to a tidy half hour. Or one beer.
  20. I'm not sure I buy that 'quite common' for no one else to get it. I bet they just didn't get symptoms, or they were the source of the infection and didn't get it. That it continues to constantly spread anyway suggests the guidance of "oh, you interacted with the spouse of someone infected? meh, you don't need to worry about anything" was dumb.
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: Yankees lose. THAAAAA Yankees LOSE!!!! Jays score a lone run via the runner-on-2nd rule in the 10th. Yanx fail to answer. I still super-hate the runner-on-2nd-to-start-the-10th rule. But I enjoyed it a bit today. The Jays won this game with basically one hit in extras. one of the worst rules ever. Glad it bit the Yankees there but 10 degrees warmer and maybe that's a home run anyway. So easy to tie too, but the Yankees went down swinging (not making contact though, just three strikeouts)
  22. That's too many Nats. Unless they're seriously going to B-Squad it. It's absurd to play and they should absolutely be quarantining them and moving on. The only reason they're not is because MLB doesn't give 1 crap about the players or them having to sit around and wonder and get cold. If they can squeeze a game in without being blamed for exposing the players (note: I didn't say without exposing the players, just being blamed) they will but there doesn't seem to be any good way to to do that. And it's absurd that there's uncertainty, it's been over a year with this they should clearly be able to say "IF X, then we play, if Y, then we cancel this game and that game and this is what happens."
  23. another episode of this thing? Amazin'!
  24. Woah, now we're facing the Phillies. Nats are an outbreak disaster. how are the Mets going to stay fresh after doing nothing for a week and the Phillies being all primed after a series vs. the Braves?
