So gotta take me and the Lunchpail over to CVS tomorrow afternoon for $29.95 rapid tests (hopefully insurance-covered) then get out there. Expecting a small-crowd of course but still clusterfucking at the gate yeah, I'm well vaxxed these days. Pod situation still makes this funky. Benefit of 'vaccinated' sections is they'd allow you to buy just 1 ticket, or 3, or whatever without having to be specifically podded.
  2. it's almost impossible given how many division games there are usually. (I don't typically count the Marlins though) Braves got 1 hit across 14 innings. ONE.
  3. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Tuesday Night Mets Club reunion! Come see us in section 333 I just checked tickets and they're bad. May open up last minutes ,I have no sense of these things anymore especially in Covid. Gotta run it by the wife too, but I really would like to get out to a game.
  4. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: wow. sandy's fate hangs not with what Bob Ojeda tweets but with what Cohen's fixer/investigator recommends. That said, Cohen is an Alderson guy all the way and I figure unless Sandy's hands are filthy and don;t just look really bad they'll find a solution that doesn't whack him. That's just my expectation I think Sandy goes, and the HR lady, as the token firings. it fits the profile of the fixer. They'll put in some training/seminar things that don't work and call it a day.
  5. I mean, Alderson needs to go too, so you can't really let him pick the next guy. But i'm tiring of Rojas fast.
  6. cable boxes are some of the worst pieces of electronics ever created.
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Gary and I both thought Mcneil clobbered that one. Strong wind we need these guys vaccinated and in the park. It's impossible to judge fly balls (and some other plays) via the tv, not to mention the delay seems a little shorter too.
  8. I think many newer tvs have 'zoom' buttons that stetch/fit/adjust the image. This isn't really a tv issue so much as it's a production/streaming/producing one.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Have the Braves removed the All-Star Game patches from their uniforms? I believe they had patched over them, but that may have been temporary.
  10. Steve released his statement. Sounds like he's going to do whatever his fixer tells him to do. Wouldn't be surprised if that's axe Sandy and the HR lady, but there's almost no chance they _actually_ fix things. He's going to do what the lady who got rich defending BP oil spills tells him to do, mark "fixed toxic front office" done on his list, and forget about it until next time.
  11. Ms. Gorelick, who frequently counsels boards on governance issues, is a Director of both Amazon.com, where she chairs the Nominating and Governance Committee of the Board, and Verisign Former Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick will head the legal team for British oil giant BP PLC as it prepares to respond to legal challenges related to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Greenwire reported Wednesday. In order to get Jared and Ivanka into their White House jobs in the first place, Gorelick had to push the legal envelope hard, insisting that the federal anti-nepotism law did not apply to White House staff, a position with which many experts on legal ethics and Democrats in Congress disagreed. This is who's looking into the Mets culture for Steve.
  12. not sure there's enough sample for that. There are rules about how many doubleheaders a team can play. There might be an exemption for Covid, but these aren't Covid ones. Wonder if that starts to play in.

I've got an overstocked (holiday) fridge too, my problem is that I always end up buying MORE beer when I have people over (or did) because i'm excited to try new things and use it as an excuse. It's a successful party when more beer is consumed than purchase. Most of my friends have stopped bringing beer for this reason. I was also looking forward to zoning out tonight and watching some baseball, mostly uninterrupted except to refill my glass. Wish they could've flexed to this afternoon at least, once they saw the forecast starting to shape up thisway.
  14. Last time Cohen called WilmerHale, and hired Jeanne Melino, chief inclusion and engagement officer. Two people 'retired'. So far, Cohen has called WilmerHale, and hired Jeanne Melino (and Chris Christie...). Maybe Sandy steps down and the HR lady retires. That's not enough. But It'd probably put money on that being it. NONE of these people are smart enough, or bring enough to the table to even have hesitated in axing them, never mind promoting and re-hiring them.
  15. I mean, I never understood A-Rod's fall from grace? He's one of the best the game's ever seen, he at least thinks about baseball (the sport, not the business) and likes it, which admittedly is a low bar. Cohen has been seemingly oblivious to things that have gone on here in the past few years and his whole schtick feels like a novelty play thing, where WE are the play things. I guess what I'm saying is..A-Rod for commissioner?
  16. I think Alex likes baseball a lot more than Steve though. Maybe 'friend' owners is a lot better than lover owners.
  17. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I'm not against experimenting, and if you do it may as well be in the minors. I think we all would have preferred that extra inning rules and 3-batter minimums and the like we're confined before shoved at us. I'll also go as far to say that games are too long now and I might prefer adjustments to the pitching lane to say, reducing the number of foul balls or balls per walk or whatever yeah but it's not the _Baseball_ that's too long, it's the other stuff. If MLB wasn't completely inept and able to reliably manufacture a baseball, they could do all these tweaks that way. They tried to deaden it a little this year, and I think i saw that maybe it kinda works the way they wanted, but the indication is the last few years have mostly been due to random manufacturing outside of their control. Make the ball spin less, or more, or fly father, or not. I'm generally okay with moving the mound back, maybe even the bases to 91", that sorta stuff just factors in bigger strong players. Stupid rules about runners on second or removing the DH halfway so we can do weird things like play Villar at first for 5 innings are dumb. (more on that on Mets On Tap Episode 4!)
  18. Willets Point wrote: Just got back from taking my daughter to baseball practice in time to see the walk off! What was the reason for pulling Walker early? beat me. our softball practice finished up while they were threatening on the bottom 8th. finished while we were putting stuff away.
  19. =Gwreck post_id=60622 time=1618349174 user_id=56] Wait a second. What possible reason is there to have a 7 inning game? This is idiotic.
  20. I mean, Stroman started Sunday. Whether or not the 'official' date of the game changes, he warmed up and actually took the mound.
  21. Stroman you mean, started sunday and will start today.
  22. I'm waiting for any of these more musically inclined folks to give us a little jingle lede! I have been adding to it a bit, ". A podcast from BarleyProse.com talking about beer and Mets baseball and anything else that comes up." which admittedly is pretty vague. The show notes do typically narrow it down. Thanks for the bump Steve, and thanks for the Citi Field beer detes, that I may rant about a bit tomorrow.
  23. What a messy play. ball trickles in, but still beats the runner, who still beats our old friend Travis to the base, but seemingly doesn't manage to actually 'touch' it, though he comes within a fraction of an inch surely. I see how he was called safe. beating the play and passing his foot between the umpire's eyes and the plate, but that probably should've been overturned.
  24. 'promoted' so she was already there. This is an organizational philosophy going back a decade maybe longer. I see no reason to think McElheny was advocating for surgery over stem cell treatment and was just ignored, and Cohen found her wallowing away in the ranks and promoted her. I suspect there are PR reasons for the promotion actually, though I hope not. Cohen hasn't exactly shown a willingness to do a thorough and comprehensive hiring process for anyone yet, granted there was more of a time crunch between when he took over and when the season started, so let's see what happens.
  25. one new doctor isn't what I meant, and she only is taking the place of her predecessor because he's being forcibly relocated to Washington thanks to his wife. (Thanks Biden)
