That may be some serious dough and not a small amount of mental energy going in a different direction over the next few years. true, but I was expecting/confident in Parnell off of last year. So it's down there with "Wright's still awesome" on my list of good news. But having an actual trustworthy option the bullpen IS very nice.

Parnell biting down hard on that bullpen ace job may just be the second best news this season. 1. Harvey 2. Parnell 3. Murphy, I guess. 4. ... uh... Duda, maybe slim pickings huh? I'll put Duda second, just because he actually had a bad year last year. Then Murphy remaining steady at second and putting up Murphy numbers. Then Parnell's continued improvement. I don't even know where to go from there though. Buck's good first two weeks? Baxter being a mostly serviceable 4th OF type? Hefner showing that he's a pretty useful 5th/spot starter type?

DIE! come on, there's nothing better than spending September hoping David Wright strikes out in big spots so the Mets lose and the pimply teenager we choose might help the Mets win game in 2017 more than that other pimply teenager we'd get if Wright homers in that spot.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/current_attendance.shtml handy tool for comparing to last year's attendance. Mets are down about 300 a game. Yankees are down 3000 a game. Marlins are down nearly 11000 a game. Phillies nearly 7000

His problem is that where others might have the occasional one- or two-run innings, Gee gives up five-run innings. That, I think, happens with teams who don't score. Pitchers kill themselves trying to be too perfect. could also be the defense. i.e. when a pitcher's a little off and yielding more balls in play a good defense might convert them into outs (a swifter LFer, though Duda wasn't horrible on it, probably dives and makes the catch limiting it to 2 runs)

I imagine 4/5 players too. Hefner HAS pitched well. I mean, maybe Terry knows he's bummed or something, but I think this is more in his own head than Jeremy's. I agree with the sentiment in principle, to get a guy that's been struggling to leave on a good note, but that doesn't apply here. Hefner doesn't have 0 wins because he's put up stinker after stinker, (though he hasn't pitched well in May) but because they haven't scored for him. He seemed to have it working yestrday, 7 Ks..

Matt Harvey's off to a good start. Anne V's Twitter. Apparently he met her in an elevator in MSG after a Rangers game, and apparently even managed to tweet about her while asking for her digits...all in an elevator ride. Anne Vyalitsyna is a Russian model. I'd put pictures here but I'm afraid to google for images while at work. Saw something about #11th sexiest model or something, I dunno, Harvey may compete for the Cy Young. That's gotta be worth like top 3 sexiest no?

Having an extra year before he hits free agency is much more valuable than a couple of weeks in 2013. that's done with. All that's up in the air is whether we have to pay him in 2015 or 2016 arb money. unless it's bought out.
first off, not denying it's not the reason, but that Wheeler is staying down for solely super-2 reasons feels a little "they're so broke" conspiratorial. He also just missed a start prior to the last one with an issue serious enough to require going to get checked out. At this point another 2-3 starts isn't really making or breaking anything for the Mets season. No Mets pitcher is standing out as a beacon of "omg can't let this guy start anymore" Hefner has made some good ones. He could certainly compete for 2-3 more starts just fine. I personally couldn't care less about super-2, even early free agency. It's the Mets job to worry about that stuff and how to keep players around. I'd consider us lucky to get to the point where 4-5 years down the road we're fretting about that like he's going to be the most coveted free agent. But at this point, when it's just a couple of weeks in what's so far a very poor season, hell..save the couple of bucks.

IOW, make a mistake and he might hit it a mile but make smart pitches and you'll get him out most of the time. And, although I don't know if this is provable statistically, that type also gains the rep as one who'll get almost all his hits in 'lost cause' situations but rarely in meaningful spots when pitchers are bearing down. I think I first heard that 'can be pitched to' term applied to Mike Marshall (the 1B/OF obviously not the pitcher). Adam Dunn, Ryan Howard, etc. Three True Outcome type hitters. Most big lefties seem to fit this mold, when they're sluggers anyway, because so many believe a 'solid lefty in the pen' basically neutralizes them. I think there was hope Davis was beyond that, but perhaps he's not. I wonder if _he_ resigned himself to the idea if he'd be less slumpy. Perhaps he set himself up wrong to start this season. He clearly came in as scouted as a power hitter, so I wonder if he'd tailored his approach more like Duda (i.e. take everything you can't smash) if he'd get some of those 'scared' walks pitchers give out, especially early on when control might be a little flakier. And then if he smashes a couple he'll only get more 'scared' walks. I dunno, just spitballing here. I always wonder (and maybe teams do) if it'd be worthwhile to set up a 'dummy scouting company' and hire people to advance scout your own team. presumably they'll see the same things other teams see, and then you can adjust according.
