  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Doodoo doobles. you're ahead of me. It will be his second Ball in Play hit this month.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: Well, I don't know if Niese is "fixed" but he's tossing a helluva game and deserves to have a shut-out to this point. small sample, but the strikeouts aren't there yet. Gonna need more of those.
  4. metsmarathon wrote: calling on him to do it. first and third with one out. why. the fuck. would you ever bunt? is there any chance he did it on his own? miss a sign? was it a squeeze play...? why would you ever...? Hope someone asks him about this over asking about bat flips.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: What was worse about that bunt by Faildespin? The execution or that he was called on to do it at all? you tell me. radio wasn't descriptive enough.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: Ankiel makes what looks to be the 19th bad base-running decision of the series Yeah, I know you press when you're losing, but what's up with the Head-in-Ass disease? I think that's just it, pressing. Terry preached aggression on the base paths this season so that's how it manifests. Plus after being able to run willy-nilly on Shelby Miller yesterday..
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Except that it's gotten to the point where it seems like one of us would look better up there. I'm willing to try. sign me up. Yay fan saving Ankiel from over-aggression.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm skeptical about Ike hitting major league pitching. Davis doesn't usually hit curves very well, and Wainwright is pretty good at that. as for the other 150 AB? *shrug*
  9. After the crap he's pulled about begging out of it..last year? the year before? Why would anyone non-ironically campaign for him to be there? Either of them. Of all the players 'injured' they were the only ones who didn't show up.
  10. You know what I find impressive*? The Mets, as of this moment, are closer (strictly in the loss column) to first place than last.
  11. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Duda didn't have a great game yesterday but his recent slump to me looks like hitting into a bad luck more than anything. Have to be encouraged that Muffy seems to be breaking out again. If Terry wants to do some lineup magic he could do worse than bat Muffy leadoff when he's hot. Duda got a little strikeout happy early in the month but he's seemingly stopped that. Only 2 in his last seven games (2 games were just a PH) He only has two walks in that time though, and three in May. I don't know if that means bad luck or buying into this more aggression thing or simply pressing too hard on a team that's struggling. But of all the hitters struggling it's Duda I have the most faith in in any given day. He's 1/26 when he puts the ball in play. Only once in May has he hit the ball and it's hit grass before seats or glove.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I'm all about moving Duda up. I stand on street corners in a scary homemade Mr. Met costume passing out leaflets. I started doing that and then Duda stopped hitting and I was worried I jinxed it.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Thought it'd be a Recker day. Hundleyesque workload that Buck is getting so far. I assume he gets one of the next three day games off at least. maybe.
  14. Did they remember to ask Valdespin first if he wanted to play today?
  15. sorry, I was being sarcastic and mocking about the people that insist Duda is too passive and (before this recent slump) his 900+ OPS was worth nothing because he had no RBI.
  16. Perez hasn't allowed an inherited runner to score yet and is 1.17 ERA over 15.1 innings and a K/9 rate of 11.74. He's allowed 8 hits, (2 HR) and 8 BB +2 IBB over that time. Everyone should've seen this coming. His velocity is back and he's back to the strike 'em out, or walk 'em, but you're probably not hitting it Perez we know and love. Whatever happened to those two can't miss pitching aces the Yankees were developing?
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Never come out hacking when you're down by more than one in the ninth, Lucas. No. BE MORE AGGRESSIVE ALWAYS.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I always love the "no finer gentleman in the game" claims. Why are these claims always made in reference to an All-Star? Maybe the finest gentleman in the game is a backup shortstop on the Padres that you've never met and speaks little English. An assitant trainer who has actually taken decorum lessons. An umpire who has studied diplomacy. consider the source I guess. I'm not sure who it was now ,but Howie and Josh were talking about a backup catcher recently, perhaps on the Pirates? who was the nicest guy you'll ever meet.
  19. G-Fafif wrote: partly because there's something generically appealing about their castoffs coalescing into a contender. Ptui! even better when the regulars return and they choke it away.
  20. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Ceetar wrote: well Pelfrey panned out, just not as an ace, but those are the breaks. Those aren't the breaks. The Mets have sucked at drafting players over the last generation and its pretty well known. It's not just because of good old random breaks why they've finished in first place in a five or six team division just once in the last 25 years. There's something foul and rotten at the top of this franchise. Is it your job to always defend against every negative thing about the Mets? Are we supposed to believe that the Mets have been a model franchise of perfection throughout this period? What Pelfrey gave us was incredibly valuable. Not every first round pick becomes an ace. I didn't say they've been good drafting players lately, but the draft is such controlled chaos that when you get value you count that as a win. Shelby's streak ends at 29, David Wright single up the middle.
  21. well Pelfrey panned out, just not as an ace, but those are the breaks. They probably won't have a great pick next year either, but hopefully they can still improve.

If this doesn't work you should be sentenced to a month of nothing but Bud Light and Old Milwaukee. oh crap, I'm not sure i'm willing to put that on the line. It's American Craft Beer Week you know! *shudder*
  24. I'm breaking the rules and starting the thread again after a loss. Gotta shake things up sometimes to break a losing streak. If you don't like it, bean me. Shaun Marcum versus Shelby (My wife had a spider named Shelby) Miller who's coming off of a 1-hit CG shutout where he retired the last 27 to face him and struck out 13.
