These things tend to only seem embarrassing to the people that proclaim them embarrassing. It's one of those ripe for "talk radio screaming" type topics.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: What's behind all the recent promotions to Binghamton? Does the Eastern League roster expand around now? Or did they (or Las Vegas) release some players to create openings? Half-way point. Lots of teams promote after the Florida State League All-Star Game. I'm sure there were some minor-league guys released too. I know the Braves released the single A pitcher who makes my bagels two weeks ago.
  3. I don't think I like any of the divisions 32 teams presents.

Is it mathematically possible to win the division without winning half your games? yes. they control their own destiny. Is this your way of saying they need to go 11-2?
  6. These two pictures are from the same spot behind PetCo. It's a nice place. Those little plaques of numbers are new. Are they new-new, or did they put them up in the last couple of years?
  7. It's not an office complex ,though big buildings have gone up nearby. Petco has a field behind the satdium, out in LF, with a grassy hill and a little baseball field and the like. it's there.
  8. decisions decisions. The 4th is perhaps early, but certainly a losing record over the next 13 could be fairly crippling. I don't know what opportunities will be presenting themselves in July, or early July. Some? good ones? hmm.. What's the minimum we need to see to believe the Mets are on the cusp of getting back into it do you think? 8-5? That only gets them to 40-45. Still 5 games under, but spitting distance perhaps? 9-4? 41-44. That seems better.
  9. Poles, Poles. They got some good Vodka no? I'd like to look at those next 10 first. Start making up some ground on the .500. This is working under my personal assumption that the Braves are the favorites to win the division and the Nationals aren't going to stay in front. (and the Marlins are pretenders, which is a safe bet) 4.5 behind the Braves. If you can out play them by one game in the next ten, you have 7/10 against them with only 3.5 behind. Go 5-2 and you're right there. Of course, if the Nationals are going to be the team, we don't play them until August. Then we play them a lot. 13 times the rest of the way. If the Mets were going to solve their woes and add a piece or something and be a good team in the second half, the ducks are certainly there for the knocking. Let's just beat the damn Marlins. Can we do that? Didn't Stanton just hurt himself?
  10. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Do you guys generally use Stubhub? I'm thinking of going to Wrigley on Sunday, and I'm debating whether to get tickets at the door or buy a pair off Stubhub. I'm reluctant to buy tickets from the team website after getting hit with a boatload of service charges. Are there a lot of extra chrges for Stubhub too? The price you see on Stubhub is what you pay. I have no idea what Wrigley's like these days. I assume it doesn't sell out and at the park will save you fees, but if Stubhub is less than what cubs.com says just do that. Might be able to get a better seat for only slightly more too.
  11. Also it's possible some of those prices were dynamically hire to begin with. (Beginning of summer, etc.) on Mets.com and that a lot of the StubHub volume was listed months ago when it was more comparable. Or people listed them at roughly face (for them). StubHub takes a rather rich cut, and the price you see is the price to you, not the price the seller is getting. Perhaps they're banking on the game suddenly becoming a rich pitching matchup or something and just put it up and forget about it. There's also the idea that people suck at listing tickets for sale. There is 'comparable' sales listed up there somewhere. Are tickets selling at those rates?
  12. Edgy MD wrote: .156 / .224 / .200 // .424 in 17 games. Even with the defense, this adds up to "not an asset." At least, not an asset to a major league roster. I'm thinking hard about Nieuwenhuis. Now, think hard about us winning the World Series.
  13. I hope Anthony Recker gets on this season. Who's the most likely guy to throw 3 innings in a 18-3 Mets homer-fest anyway?
  14. Edgy MD wrote: I feel sleazy contemplating "Delta Club Access" too. Immediately invokes a strip club where street-level drug kingpins have their dancers entertain their suppliers in upstairs lounges. no, that's the Delta Lounge I think. or something. Delta Club has a couple of nice murals too. Hey, if you're gonna come all the way up here for a game, might as well see it all right? Indoor batting cage, Pat LaFrieda's Steakhouse, the Porn Room...
  15. Edgy MD wrote: I feel sleezy even checking the prices on Caesar's Gold. Caesar's gold are the cheapest section where you get Delta Club access. Not that the club itself is really anything special of course. You can get a nice view of the indoor batting cage though.
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Meanwhile, I think I spotted "Ticket Oak" on the season finale of Game of Thrones the other night. Those ticket oak commercials are almost as bad as the tristate honda ads.
  17. Less season tickets, and less by pure scalpers means less supply. It's a somewhat appealing interleague matchup (The A's are good, and I'd much rather see the A's than say the Diamondbacks or Pirates again) The mid-range tickets are usually the ones that are cheaper though, so it is a little surprising. I suspect there is a large portion of the mostly dormant fanbase that figures "Let's get to at least a game this year" and "why not pick good seats if it's just the once and the team sucks?" that drives up the value a bit.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: That, btw, was the 2nd run scored by Bartolo in his career, the first since 2002 w/Montreal. He drove in Fernando Tatis in that game, before being driven in by Jose Macias. Eric Young was leading off for the Brewers. Mike DeJean finished the game for the Brewers. Fast forward to 2005 and DeJean gave up the last Bartolo hit while with the Mets.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Yes, well, I wasn't speaking of in the net. I was speaking about specific instances of trying to do too much to rescue a slumping team.. Murphy is certainly an asset and a half, in the net. I think he's easy to identify specific instances where it seems like that but hard to prove. Perhaps it's simply the other way. Murphy's playing the same way and the games where the Mets don't win are the ones where he doesn't make it. Where someone misses a sign, where a diving catch doesn't catch the ball. Weaker offenses are going to tend to play closer games where one bad break could be the difference?
  20. Edgy MD wrote: At least when Wright tries to do too much, he's a zero. When Muffy tries to overdo it, he subtracts. Murphy is third in Fangraphs BsR among ML second baseman. He occasionally gets over-aggressive, but that's like saying a guy occasionally gets thrown out stealing so he should never steal. It's a net-positive.
  21. leadoff homerun. poo. aww well, first inning runs usually means you lose right? that's what I've been trained to expect.
  22. Question re: subject. Was he previously named Taylor or was that part of the trade?

Wait a minute... this just in... TERRY HAS BEEN NAMED TIME'S MAN OF THE YEAR!!! With half the year still, to go, they're calling the race now. GOOD JOB, TERRY!! And it somewhat mitigates the power-hitter leadoff guy problem by putting a non-pitcher in front of him in subsequent innings.
