Yes, he's more expendable by virtue of number of bodies, but that is of course true of everyone. Filler posts. De Aza's more expendable because the Mets acquired a player (Cespedes) who plays De Aza's position and is higher up on the depth chart. You can't say that about any other Met that was expected to get at least 300 PA's in 2016. I don't think De Aza was expected to get 300 PAs but I could see how someone that wrote that would also write a 'they should trade him now' piece.

I don't know how the Mets viewed him initially, personally I always expected them to grab another guy, even if it wasn't a given star. I expected De Aza's role and value to be the same as it is today and this doesn't change my opinion of his signing. Yes, he's more expendable by virtue of number of bodies, but that is of course true of everyone. Filler posts.

  4. This is just a bs spring training story anyway. Of course Harvey is open to an extension if it pays well. duh. Matt Harvey isn't a free agent for THREE MORE SEASONS. He's also a pitcher and pitchers get hurt. It would be irresponsible, given the current service time rules, to extend even just Thor, Harvey and deGrom right now. deGrom is a free agent in 2021. Syndergaard in 2022! For example, Justin Verlander was the/a top pitcher in 2012. (going by rWAR) His next three years combined to be just a tick above average. Price would've been worth it. and Kershaw. Matt Harrison not so much. Cueto pitched well those three years but seemingly fell apart halfway through last year. Dickey and Kuroda probably aren't comps. Gio Gonazalez was good the next three seasons but nothing special. The pitchers that have long term extended success are a crap shoot. If we want to sign Harvey into There's certainly value in locking up your guys long term, but I think we're at least a year or two away from needing to do that. Hell, we're not even up to buying out arb years yet. I'm extremely wary of predicting which pitchers are still going to be great in 2021.
  5. Picking up from last year: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22301 3-year Met-beat veteran Jared Diamond (WSJ) this morning announces he's switching the MFYs for 2016. No word yet on his replacement. I think Jared said Andrew Beaton is his replacement. Jared was probably my favorite beat guy for sure.

  7. May I suggest Victoria Quartararo? On the shorter side, 5'6", but not short. A few years younger. Singer/Songwriter/etc/etc. so up and coming still trying to find her spot (hey, like Wilmer!) Hey, sang the anthem! Local! Lives in Wyckoff (so, like, is my neighbor. I'll recommend a nice place to eat Wilmer!)

So, uh, unravel that however you will.
  9. Lefty Specialist wrote: Okay, the Royals are rubbing the Mets' noses in it a bit, but I want every player in the dugout watching. I want it to be motivation to rip through the National League and the World Series in 2016, starting with taking two of two from the Royals to spoil their parties. And don't be afraid to pitch inside, boys. Worked well in 2007. Anyway, hate all you want but I know if the Mets had won I'd be mildly annoyed that the ring ceremony wasn't being carried by SNY since it was on ESPN.

  11. But [these daily fantasy leagues] certainly [do] resemble gambling in that most of the winning is done by a small handful of essentially professional players who are at liberty to play and bankroll multiple 'games' per day with the idea that one or more will hit. Meanwhile the minnows dipping their toes into the water, or the ones who are conned by the commercials that make it seem like every entrant is a winner, are merely funneling their dough to the sharks which makes both the pros and the ones running the games very happy. From Phil Mushnick's column: PBS’ “NewsHour” last week reported findings that 91 percent of DraftKings and FanDuel MLB pools are won by just 1.3 percent of its players. which is proof that it is a game of skill, not chance. Just because there's some skill in manipulating the elements of chance doesn't make it a 'game of skill' You can put three coins down on a roulette wheel to triple your chances of winning and it doesn't make it skill. Of course, none of that should really matter. the laws themselves are the problem.

I got a warning today that my registration was about to expire, and I'm thinking I might not be the only one. So you all might want to check to make sure your registration doesn't expire before draft day and before you even realize it. Yes I believe this is how we accidentally got two Snukes or something last year during the draft.
  13. it's awesome.

  15. I bought one pack for the hell of it. 3 Mets and a weird bonus strip of card? No Jankowski or whatever that is.
  16. hm. I thought for sure this had permeated by now. I heard it a few months ago and since then a billion times in all of the "adults trying to use the words the kids use to sound cool" ways like this one, or news stations, etc. I should see if my wife has picked up on it's meaning yet.
  17. Fman99 wrote: Still looking for input on Port St. Lucie, tips on what side of the park to sit on where we might find more shade for a typical day game. Thanks all. there is no shade. You might grab some if you're directly behind home plate from the stadium behind you, but that's probably it. or if you're sitting at the Tiki Hut in LF. LF is closest to the Mets bullpen which is obviously right up against the stands. has the Tiki Hut. RF has the berm.
  18. always strikes me how fast these guys go from minor league prospects with potential to help to 'eh, release him'.
  19. ticket game is a racket for sure. Between the 2-3 different proprietary systems (tickets.com, ticketmaster and..one other i think) and the secondary StubHub crap, they've got us over a barrel of fees with nowhere to go. Hell the fees are to a point that you might just be able to make profit buying a bunch of tickets at the window and reselling the hot matchups for a lot, and still recoup face-value costs on the other games by virtue of not paying those feeds.
  20. Fman99 wrote: So I had to look this "Netflix and Chill" phrase up, because I'm 42 and I don't know what the kids are talking about. But this sounds like one hell of a promo. I am down for whatever. I think just about everyone is caught up now right? Hell, six-billion news organizations joked about it during the blizzard. Also it's pretty safe to assume any slang you don't understand is referring to sex isn't it?
  21. Centerfield wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: You'll have to scroll down a bit to get to the paragraph on Clippard, which doesn't say much, other than "The Mets may still bring back Clippard." This is about as lukewarm as a rumor can be. I am working on a groundbreaking piece for the CPF Daily where the point of the article is "Or they might not." I'm thinking of writing an auto-content generating script that just picks a free agent and writes "X Team may be interested in signing" and fills in all the needed uncertainties "If the price is right" "Sources familiar with the thinking didn't rule this move out"
