What has to happen for Flores to get more playing time than he's gotten? I think that when there's a lefty starter, Flores will see quite a bit of time at first base. Yup, I'd expect that Reyes will settle in at third now, so Wilmer will be the floater at 1st/2nd/3rd, as the rest of the infield will need days off. well, it's February. no one's really _Settling_ in anywhere yet.

  3. 41Forever wrote: I'd love to see the percentage of pickoff throws to actual pickoffs. And how many times is that throw never even close to catching the batter, but just to let the batter know that the pitcher knows he's over there. so hard to quantify too. The runner taking a lead that's one step shorter could be the diff between going first to third or not.
  4. Someone tweeted recently about how no one complains about automatic icing anymore. Leaving aside that one prevents the skirting of rules and one codifies it, I suspect IBBs will be the same 3 years from now.
  5. I put the odds at 22% that DH accompanies expansion in the next 5 or so years. too late for David Wright unfortunately.
  6. sounds like Wright drove the ball via the radio.
  7. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Now it's working great on my 40$ shitty Kindle Fire. Ps - i like the plain, white lettering on the spring uni's. Definitely looks more like a practice jersey. The optimized apps might just be better coded than the web versions maybe? Houston's radio guy is rather monotonous. which is fine as it's background noise right now I guess.
  8. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Anyone streaming this on MLB.tv? It's so crappy today. I'm getting 92mbps down, so it's def not bandwidth. Super choppy on a Macbook Pro w/ Firefox or Safari as well as a Chromebook. Currently watching on my phone like an idiot. can't without an account. annoying. plus NBC isn't getting its act together for Spring apparently.
  9. Do we buy into juiced ball theory last year, and does that continue this year? Because if so Duda's gonna break the Mets home run record. 2016 had the second most home runs ever, behind 2000. the 5th best ISO (and barely), behind '99-01, and '06. Duda missed much of the bump last year. .250/.350/.490 wRC+ of 129. 42 HR. 148 GP. 3.5 fWAR Drives in Cespedes 5 times in the NLDS. Makes the final put out of the world series, a 3 unassisted in the scorebook.
  10. Just a bit better than last year, but stays healthY. 202.1 IP, 8.98 K/9, 2.05 BB/9 3.1 ERA, 4.2 fWAR Is the only Mets starter with at least 10 games started that doesn't hit a home run, but is also the only Mets starter with a run scored in a game he didn't start. Misses the NLDS, Starts games 1 and 4 of the NLCS, and clinches the World Series, getting pulled after 7.2, 132 pitches, and a runner on second in a 3-1 game with Hanley Ramirez due up.

Mets did well in that one! 1 Bryce 2 Jameson Taillon Pittsburgh Pirates 3 Manny Machado Baltimore Orioles 4 Christian Colón Kansas City Royals 5 Drew Pomeranz Cleveland Indians 6 Barret Loux Arizona Diamondbacks 7 Matt Harvey Thanks Omar?
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: how does stuff like that even happen. And who discovered it? The accountants? Duplicate envelopes is apparently the answer -- Dunaway & Beatty were handed a copy of the Emma Stone - Best Actress card and saw 'LA LA LAND' mentioned. But if the idea is to keep everyone in the dark about the winner -- I guess so as to maintain 'The Big Reveal' even among the presenters -- it's obvious that someone had to know and it seems odd that they'd keep a couple of the accountants backstage there just in case something that couldn't possibly happen actually happens. And if someone is going to know anyway then you might as well clue the presenters in before they go out there just to avoid something like this. They are actors after all and so you figure they can fake surprise as well as anyone. I'm sure they're ultimately fine with the 'any press is good press' angle of it. Otherwise couldn't they have just said nothing and let the 'wrong' film win and move on?
  13. oh look, one I've actually seen. I need to watch this a few dozen more times to really get the full effect, but I thought it was fine. a little less good than Nemo, but maybe I'll pick up on all the subtle jokes that Nemo had once I watch it more. Wanted more tank fish. It was a little more bumbling comedy than quest though. "they're over here! *goes there* no, now they're over there were you just were!"
  14. when I was still listening occasionally the best parts were always the first twenty minutes or so. You get a quick take and recap of what's going on. After that it's just callers arguing that point or the host reiterating it, for hours. There are others, but I've been listening to the Effectively Wild podcast for a while. It's dropped from 5 to 3 times a week but it's generally just broad baseball talk which is what I always wanted from the radio. "Hey, Trout did this cool thing last night, let's talk about it." "Hey, this guy did this other thing, let's chat about that now." And it gets appropriately silly too, if you like. They did a good 20 minutes on trying to figure out if Adam Lind farted during an AB last year.
  15. I guess it depends on your definition of palatable and honorable. Advertising versus trying to turn your dead alum's name into gold by selling it.
  16. well, this seems like more of a license to print money to be honest. 10 year deal supposedly.
  17. It's funny because the Phillies are a dumpster fire.
  18. Zvon wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Hits three HRs and drives in 9 in a single game at Citi Field. As a member of the Phillies. Ha! This is especially cruel. nah, the Mets still win that game.
  19. again IBBs should me prevented, not codified. But maybe Manfred should talk to people that "only watch one or two games a month" and see what's up. But really it's pretty obvious. The best thing that baseball can do is stop the cease and desist nonsense and actively promote the spreading of gifs, memes, and video clips across social media and the internet at large. Remember that the world is different now and trying to find more fans that will devote 20 hours a week to watching the product is a fools game, and making it 18 will not change that. But fans that watch occasionally, but still "follow" and enjoy the interactions during the day and watching highlights and dingers and all that stuff that comes from it. Like a clip of every Blue jay home run set to Johnny Cash. Most of this type of stuff gets shut down. I don't even like music and this is great ([youtube:13y1rqm6]E9jaMJvYNq0[/youtube:13y1rqm6]) This is "Millennial" interaction with the sport. Just because baseball hasn't properly figured out how to monetize it, or how much it actually does lead to fan involvement, doesn't mean it's bad.
  20. This guy's a tough one. 400 PA with 50 against lefties. .255/.335/.440 overall. respectable but not great. has 6 walks and 9 hits against the lefties, two doubles. Just enough to still leave the decision murky. Is a regular down the stretch, into the playoffs. Very hidden against lefties in the playoffs but manages 3 HR ,and a good stat line, 1 as the go-ahead and ultimately winning run in the 7th when A.J. Hinch for some reason doesn't go to Tony Sipp with him leading off the inning. (Later he'll say he wanted to save him for Duda and Granderson in the 8th)
  21. Lefty Specialist wrote: Wright threw 30 throws of 60-70 feet indoors away from cameras. I understand that the Mets didn't want him to be embarrassed in case he was tossing lollypops sidearm, but hard to believe he'll be ready to answer the bell on April 3rd. why? I mean, besides the obvious. I still content April is probably the best chances we have for Wright appearances because it's the daily grind and degenerative nature of the condition that's likely to do him in. But we've got what, 41 more days? that's a really really long time and I'm sure the Mets don't really want or need him doing full, meaningless, workouts in February.
  22. Webb-related content: Director Bill Webb appears to be looking at part-time work, at best, for 2017. Hope he's doing well at least.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: When it comes to the tabs, Ceetar's like a cartoon Millennial. Doesn't read 'em, doesn't bother to understand 'em. oh, I read them all and none of them. I read _people_ not papers.

  25. The big question is... will he threepeat? Save it for the "Foreseeing Seventeen: garbage new york rags" (that's rags as it in newspapers not Rangers in this case) edition.
