  1. yeah - I think you're right in that you don't expect him to be a big contributor but hey if he rocks through the last 10 starts and into the playoffs you've got the best 1/2 punch going. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: He still may as well not exist, till he's on the mound and pitching in a real game that counts. And even then, after continuing to get hurt, suddenly and mysteriously, for 2 years or more, who will ever trust that if that day comes, that it lasts? Cuz me, I just don't anymore. But my opinion means shit, of course. It's what the organization makes of it. And I believe they too need to pretend that deGrom is no longer a relevant member of its plans, just a sort of a lottery ticket in a drawer somewhere and they don't recall when the numbers get drawn. And act like that is the case, whether they say it or not.

  3. Lefty Specialist wrote: Still don't think he'll throw a pitch in the major leagues this season. So if he doesn't ... does he still opt out? what contract will he get ? You'd have to think Stephen Strasberg feels like a recent comp and that hasn't gone very well...
  4. =kcmets post_id=100348 time=1658282162 user_id=53] He wants to be a Yankee. Pitching this year may endanger that.
  5. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: My WERRY about the suddenly sonambulent offense (granted, Marte and McNeil missing, but this dead-zone has stretched now beyond their respective disappearances), is making me rethink whether I actually want to "stand firm" on earlier pronouncements I wouldn't promote the sturdier looking of Vientos/Baty/Rodriguez, put at DH and bat em 9th for 1 week, and watch what happens. I know he hasn't hit at AAA yet, but it would really have made sense to promote Alvarez when McCann went down. If he doesn't hit you can send him back down when McCann is back, if he does you can keep him on and demote Dom. Right now he can catch 3 days a week and get some other batting done as PH/DH. Vientos similarly could have had a whirl.
  6. It's the 8th inning and SNY is treating the game like it's Spring Training. Pathetic. --------- Gary: "the replay coordinator missed it." OR, perhaps the umpire could have done his job and gotten the call right as he is paid to do. about this - this comes back to where I am with video review - it should only be called by the players and they should have 10 seconds after time to tell the umpire to review it. this kind of play is exactly the kind of thing that review is to solve - not the ones where there's the infinitesimal gap between glove and ball/foot and base - the fielder (Alonso) knew he had the out - he'd have called a review if he could have...
  7. The thing that's of most comfort though is that even though the Braves have won 12 straight they're still 5 games back - any other division if a team had one 12 straight they'd be in the lead or within a game or two (AL East excepted). Fangraphs still has playoff's appearance @ 90% - but our league winning has shrunk considerably.
  8. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: "I don't worry about my job," Girardi said when asked about the subject after the game. "I've never worried about my job. I don't worry about my job. I've got to do my job. It's the business of being a manager. I don't worry about it." Phil's payroll is 230m and they're 10.5 games back on memorial day I really worry that Joe Girardi might lose his job. That would be very bad news. For the mets. Though having said that how many more times do we have to play the f'cking phillies - only 6 times in August - so maybe we could use them having a little fire in their bellies for the next few months. SACK GIRARDI NOW
  9. Diaz good in interview in fairness.
  10. In fairness it's a valid point.
  11. Buck is saying they'd have ph'd Longoria for Pederson if he'd gone to Rodriguez
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Dom didn't put it into gear until he was about 30 feet around first. Think it takes 90 feet to get the engine going

  14. Thought about Diaz but Pedersons a lefty - if you are bringing him for Crawford you should have planned for it one batter earlier
  15. Sorta think Rodriguez should have been in vs Pederson
  16. It's 5.44 am and thankfully the mrs had to be at work for 6! Joined this for Marte's single
  17. They've signed Trevor Cahill too. He needs to do some extended spring training to get into game shape, but it's not the worst idea to have him as an arm that they can hope to catch a bit of lightening in a bottle with. He was good in 2018 and 2020, bad in 2019 and 2021 ...

He's from Kerry - there's no doubt it takes a bit of time to 'tune your ear' to it, but he has that lovely irish language rhythm to how he speaks too. That particular game was when Kilkenny were trying to get '5 in a row' - and they were undone by Tipp. Hurling's bonkers - the helmets with masks are a rather new addition - up until there were very few teeth in the average hurlers head.
