  1. The Onion's News in Brief are usually funnier than the full-length articles.
  2. Fox cancels ALCS.
  3. So you may or may not notice, but each Thursday I go through the backpages of the baseball forum and cull out threads for the KTE, Game Recounts, Predictions or Permanent Link forums as well as picking out the best and brightest threads for Featured Archives according to the standards described here. Once that's done, I send threads that haven't been responded to in 45 days to the archives at the Crane Pool Companion (I may lengthen this time period during the offseason if posting reduces). It occurs to me that once a thread is archived there's no way to bring it back and make it active again, so if this type of thing is important to you, make a habit of looking through the back pages and bump up threads you want to keep active. If there's something you think should be in the Featured Archives make a note of that. Also, I plan in the first week of November to archive threads in the PotG, Game Recounts and KTE forums. If you think any or all of these threads need to be kept active here, bump 'em or reply in this thread of what you think should and should not be archived.
  4. Yuck, I didn't need to be reminded of that.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: Wow. I don't get It Happened One Night. It happens over several days and nights. But "it" only happened on one night.
  6. What about tickets sales? People who have tix for the game tonight might not be able to make it tomorrow night.
  7. Nothing ... except two pennants, 3 ALCS appearances, and five divisional championships (including this season when they had no right to be in the playoffs at all). I'd take that kind of nothing for the Mets.
  8. I think Frayed was referring to the argument made against free agency in the 50's, 60's & 70's. Other factors have upset the competitive balance since then, I believe.
  9. 1978-1987 is 10 seasons with a different WS champion each year. 1978 New York A.L. Los Angeles N.L. 4-2 1979 Pittsburgh N.L. Baltimore A.L. 4-3 1980 Philadelphia N.L. Kansas City A.L. 4-2 1981 Los Angeles N.L. New York A.L. 4-2 1982 St. Louis N.L. Milwaukee A.L. 4-3 1983 Baltimore A.L. Philadelphia N.L. 4-1 1984 Detroit A.L. San Diego N.L. 4-1 1985 Kansas City A.L. St. Louis N.L. 4-3 1986 New York N.L. Boston A.L. 4-3 1987 Minnesota A.L. St. Louis N.L. 4-3 That's a great decade for baseball, 13 of 26 teams won a pennant! No wonder why it seemed like every team had a chance when I was a kid.
  10. It's nice to see the Mets ahead of the Braves in the Most years without a League Championship list. Maybe we've cursed both the Braves & Yankees? Not much of a curse though: "You will always do better than us,getting into the playoffs each year, but you'll never win it all! Mwah-ha-ha-ha!"
  11. This is one of those joyous occassions when I just have to...... Sorry. Avert your eyes. YIPEE!!!!! THE YANKEES LOSE!!!! GO WHITE SOX!!!!
  12. Wallace & Gromit, the claymation stars of three of the funniest shorts ever appear in their first full-length film. Basically it's just as funny, clever, and visually interesting as it's predecessors, but not quite as good. The shorts kept everything tight and moving at a good clip while Were-Rabbit has some filler here and there to stretch it out. Still, this movie is far better than most of the crap showing on the silver screen these days, so grab your sweetie and your kids and go see it.
  13. Connecticut in the 1980's was as blue & orange as New York City. I'm happy for the White Sox, but if they roll over and play patsy to the Yankees in the ALCS now, I'm going to be really pissed!
  14. I wouldn't mess with me while I'm Lenny Dykstra.
  15. I sure know how to push buttons, don't I?
  16. You wake up one morning this winter and discover that Mike Piazza has signed a contract for an absurd amount of money ... with the Yankees!!! There's the obligatory press conference where Piazza slips on the pinstriped # 31 and then makes "the Speech." You know, the one all new Yankees make about the great organization, the history of Yankee Stadium, the dream come true... What would you think?
  17. I gained a fondness for the White Sox and White Sox fans at the one game I attended while in Chicago. For starters, I never feared that Sox fans would stick my head in the pee trough in the men's room.... Should the Pale Hose beat the Carmines, I will root for them in future series, but until then I'm all for Boston. As much as people blame Grafinino for the error, I still have an irrational hatred for David Wells and hold him responsible for the Red Sox loss.
  18. Just started...I hope the actual book is less obtuse than the introduction.
  19. Add comments below.
  20. Says that the Yankees are playing a postseason game scheduled to start at 10 PM. That can't be right, 'cause the Yankees always get the prime 8 PM start.
  21. "the Mets, who barely escaped last place in the National League East."Or would have finished in first place in the National League West, but you phrase your facts in the way that makes your case strongest, you putz.
  22. Ms. Tiger on Trammel firing: "Wah!" (actual quote)
