  1. I'm happy to have 'em both.

  3. SI Metman, you should edit your votes to the players' real names or meet the wrath of Yancy.
  4. "Go(ing) for the sweep" in IGT thread title seems to always lead to a loss.
  5. Forgot my SC.
  6. New York is the only one I'm aware of. I know, you're worried, that once the Mets adopt this alternate uniform, soon the Cardinals will show up in bright red St. Louis tartans and the Padres in brown & mustard San Diego tartans.
  7. metirish wrote: ] "That's total BS - whoever said that," Glavine said Friday. "I've talked to Greg and I've asked him what's going on, but I've never tried to sell him on coming to New York." Glavine on reports that he tired to recruit Maddux. Bastard, what's he got against New York!
  8. This could be a unique uniform combination for the Mets. Obviously it looks a lot better on her than on, say, Ramon Castro but you get the idea.
  9. I think the Mets should introduce a uniform that includes wearing kilts in the New York City Tartan: An unfortunate side effect is that no one will want to slide feet first.

  12. Yikes! I just got home and tuned in. 4 runs in the first for Pedro. Is he okay? Did he settle down? Is he still in the game? Did it just make him pissed and pitch dominantly afterwards? The IGT does not tell.
  13. Does Omar know how to speak street Spanish in a Cuban accent?

I get this feeling of deja vu. When will people finally get off Warren Spahn's back? Nice. You get my post of the day award.
  15. I'm posting just 'cause Steve looks lonely.

  17. ="Gwreck"]="Willets Point"]Location. I like that at Fenway, Wrigley, Camden Yards, and whatever-they-call-it-now ballpark in San Francisco you can just walk along the sidewalk and the ballpark is one of the buildings in the neighborhood. Shea and the future Mets home are divorced from the city by their location. The problem with the Ebbets Field retro-look is that it is a style for a neighborhood ballpark being used on a ballpark that's not in a neighborhood. The artificiality of it is unappealing. I can appreciate the point, but it seems to me like a pretty empty complaint. The Mets don't now nor have they ever had the opportunity to place this ballpark in any sort of "neighborhood." WIth that in mind, what exactly should the stadium look like? Well that's part of the problem, I don't like stadiums in a sea of parking lots. I suppose they could build on the edge of the property closest to Corona and make it old style and just have a lot of parking on the other side. My main point is that it shouldn't be made to look like something it isn't. I suppose Dodgers and Royals Stadiums are fine models for (lack of a better term) a "suburban" stadium. Or they could have a contest to come up with something completely new, originally New York. Or they could have the first Frank Gehry-designed stadium in the world. Seriously though, Shea's biggest flaw is that it was built as a multi-purpose stadium, but wasn't too good for either purpose. Any baseball-only structure that doesn't have some of the obvious goofs mentioned earlier in this thread will be fine.
  18. seawolf17 wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]How come you didn't put the words "All-Purpose" in front of the thread title, by the way? That seems to be in vogue lately. I always thought the "Apropos Of Nothing" thread should just be called the All-Purpose All-Purpose Thread. This sounds like a good idea for the next version since the current thread is reaching critical mass.
  19. Wait for the winter and sign Zito to join the team that defends the World Sereis title.

  22. Vic Sage wrote: Jaws - heartpounding thriller What I like about Jaws beyond the thriller aspects is the relationship among Scheider, Shaw and Dreyfuss. The movie works well because its really about these three very different men and how they're changed on this boat journey. The sequels were all about the shark and thus failures as drama. Same thing with the Rocky franchise. Rocky was about people, one of whom happened to be a boxer. The sequels were about boxing.
  23. I demand that Milwaukee's sizeable Irish community be recognized with an Irish Sausage. He'd have wild red hair under a tam-o-shanter, dress like a leprechaun, and bear a shilleleagh to beat the other sausages with.
