  1. And the Angels have literally retired a number for "The Singing Cowboy."

That's the problem, though, right? Culturally, Anaheim doesn't really resonate much. It's most famous building is a fake castle. It's cultural institutions are borrowed and faux. It was founded by German immigrants who wanted to get into the wine game and didn't know what to do and got wiped out by a grape blight. It's the childhood home (though not the birthplace) of Jackie and Mack Robinson, but was also a huge upwardly mobile Klan stronghold. Even to the extent that Anaheim=Disney, it's not really the provocative, woke Disney that MAGA resents, but the awkward (and worse) white-hegemony Disney that MAGA misses. So, with the options of culture being theme parks and convention centers, it isn't too suprising that they'd borrow from a more resonant neighbor. Other potential themes: orange groves, Joshua Tree National Park, or something that people who live there know about that we wouldn't that really, you know, connect to the city.
  3. =kcmets post_id=95163 time=1654620674 user_id=53] Noah is pitching today versus Boston, so maybe Sunday?

  5. This is the fourth team to debut their City Connect uniforms in games against the Mets. The Mets are 2-1 so far when their opponents trot out their fancy new duds. Miami Marlins - May 21, 2021 (Mets 6, Marlins 5 - 12 innings) Los Angeles Dodgers - Aug. 20, 2021 (Dodgers 3, Mets 2) Washington Nationals - April 9, 2022 (Mets 5, Nationals 0) Los Angeles Angels - June 11, 2022
  6. I'd really like to see a statistical breakdown of extra innings in the past three seasons to see if the ghost runner has actually shortened games. Because anecdotally I've watched multiple games over the past three seasons where both teams drove in their ghost runner and thus remained tied.
  7. That does look rather ... intimate ... in neon form.
  8. I stayed up late watching the NBA Finals instead (with happier results, for me).
  9. If tail end of the 20th century is https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/1971-schedule-scores.shtml1971, then yes.
  10. I worry about West Coast road trips. I'm sure some of you out there have the actual stats, but it feels like several promising Mets seasons have been derailed on a long visit to California. Of course, this year's Mets have a buffer and even if they go 0-10 (heaven forbid) they will still be in first place!
  11. And this is happening when the season started late because of the lockout too.
  12. The fans at Citi Field sound very youthful today. School outings I expect.
  13. https://www.mlb.com/news/fenway-park-high-school-promBest. Prom. Ever. at Fenway Park last night. [insert joke about "getting to first base" with your date]
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Lunchbucket trade target Luis Castillo goes tonight at Fenway as the Sox counter with ex-Met (who has been surprisingly crushing it) Michael Wacha. I saw Castillo pitch 6 innings of 1-hit ball in person tonight and I'm the Lunchbucket Bandwagon. Wacha pitched well too, allowing only 1 unearned run in the loss.

  16. My guess is that most of them are in jail awaiting trial for 1/6/21 crimes.
  17. Gil Hodges Bobblehead Day at Citi Field July 24, same day Gil will be enshrined in Cooperstown. https://nypost.com/2022/04/02/gil-hodges-getting-honored-with-mets-bobblehead/https://nypost.com/2022/04/02/gil-hodges-getting-honored-with-mets-bobblehead/ By the way, for some reason this is not listed on the Mets promotional events calendar.
  18. Eventually the Yankees are going to have to start wearing irrational numbers.
  19. Another reason to hope the Celtics ice the Heat tonight, then.
  20. I agree. Henry Aaron is a legend.
  21. https://twitter.com/yankees/status/1529955869428965379 This is more "Fuck Yeah! The Yankees!"
  22. That's on my watchlist.
  23. Oh, wow, there are still 3 living former Philadelphia A's too (all of whom moved with the team to KC).
  24. I guess if a young Aaron Judge fan wants a ball he has to go to Toronto.
