  3. surprisingly moving despite being formulaic. Of course, he created the formula.
  4. i had to autodraft the last 7 rounds and got totally screwed over by that freakin machine. MIKE JACOBS! JEFF WEAVER! for feck's sake! Lunchpail, i wish i shared your confidence in my draft.
  5. also, whats this about a $1000 waiver budget? How does that work?
  6. i'm going to have to check out before 9pm, so i hope it goes quickly. But i have a question: if i have to go to auto=draft at some point, will it know to only pick NLers? Or will i be completely screwed?

  8. well, he didnt get old, but he did get older, and his heart did die well before it attacked him. Just look at the movies he made as he aged... you don't take a pseudonym of Edmund Dantes because you're proud of your work. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12236&start=0

  13. netflix works pretty well for me. with a family of 4, we maintain 4 lists and so everybody always has a movie, or one on the way. Living in the suburbs, there are no video stores in walking distance, and the nearest blockbuster is about a 10min drive. But we use it for those rare moments when there is nothing in the house anybody wants to see, but we want to see SOMETHING. But Usually, in those situations, we just go out to the movie theater and see something NEW. Also, with netflix you can watch stuff online. I just plug my laptop into my bigscreen and I've watched many a tv show or shlock movie that way. Yesterday, my son and I watched a whole lot of SOUTH PARK, just cuz mommy was out and not there to object.

  21. ok, but why do you think "CGI movies" cannot have a good, well-written story? I submit, as Exhbit A, the LOTR trilogy.
  22. Effects aside, there is sufficient meaning to make this more than mere spectacle. It has a moral worldview, whether one is sympathetic to it or not. It has an archtypal narrative which, while not groundbreaking, hits the right notes to work. Dismissing it out of hand is as silly as lauding it as a life-changing experience. It's simply an excellent SF epic, with great FX.
  23. FARGO is from 1996, and RIPLEY is from `99.
  24. As for ranking the LOTR films, its not necessary. They were shot together to tell a single story. I think its appropriate to treat them as a single work, despite the commercial necessity of splitting it up into 3 films.
  25. don't hijack ths thread. I like the Bourne movies, for what they were... well directed action. They've picked up the 007 mantel and added moral ambiguity. Damon is very good in the series. As for the asswipe from the NEW YORKER, his list is consistent with the magazine. Pretentious bullshit. Its about the appearance of intellect, without having to condescend to the actual applicattion of intellect. Its a coffee table list.
