  1. Carrasco gets into a 2nd & 3rd with no outs trouble. Then pitches out of with a pair of Ks and a fly out for the final out. Solid pitching.
  2. Unfortunately, Gallen is also cruising through 3 for Arizona.
  3. Cookie on cruise control through 3 innings.
  4. Great 1-2-3 first inning for Carrasco.
  5. That jerk is a disgrace to Mets fans (and all reasonable fans of any team). Show some class, dumb ass!
  6. I will go with Brett Baty.
  7. He was signed and then hurt. He essentially did nothing (or at least nothing good) during his time with the Mets. He pitched to a 7.71 ERA (57 ERA+) over 11.2 Innings in 15 appearances in 2020. In 2021, he improved(?) to a 9.00 ERA (61 ERA+) over 1 inning of work in his only appearance. I guess last year could be considered an improvement, since he basically didn't pitch; which was likely a good thing for the Mets.
  8. Nice pick up. Should solidify the rotation, assuming they can remain healthy.
  9. A long delay to the start of the season will significantly hurt the game in my view. The owners, and to a lesser degree the players, seem determined to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Baseball was a major part of my life as a kid and remained so into my early twenties. Marriage, family, and career gradually loosened baseball's hold on my life. With each successive labor stoppage, I found my fandom and interest waned a little more. I find myself rapidly losing interest and mentally preparing myself to move on with my life with MLB having a further diminished hold upon my interest.
  10. Thanks for the nice story from Ron Kittle about Julio Cruz. I lived within "earshot" of the old Comiskey Park from 1981-1985. That story brings back some fond memories of my time in Chicago. We could see the fireworks from the "exploding scoreboard" and hear the crowd roar whenever the Sox hit a homerun. We saw quite a few fireworks with Kittle, Greg Luzinski, Harold Baines, and Pudge Fisk in the line up. In the days before PEAs, they hit a lot of home runs. Just reminiscing about the White Sox of the early 80's and looking at their roster, I completely forgot that Jerry Koosman (at age 40) was the 5th starter for the 1983 pennant winning team. I attended 4-5 games that season and I don't believe I ever saw him pitch. I did however get to see Tom Seaver pitch in 1985, before I left Chicago.
  11. =bmfc1 post_id=86018 time=1645217527 user_id=73] I look forward to a report on MLB sending $ to the businesses that depend on ST as well as the locals who work at the ballparks.
  12. =kcmets post_id=85816 time=1644768464 user_id=53] I get Bartolo's HR when I click on that... which was a surprise treat!!

  14. I am far less annoyed or upset by the universal adoption of the DH going forward. I think it is because I had come to view its adoption as an inevitable part of the new collective bargaining agreement. Now the automatic runner in scoring position during extra innings, I truly hate; far more than I ever did the DH.

Not that different other than maybe baseball seems to have more frequent and longer work stoppages than do the other professional team sports. It is not like my friends follow the NBA or NHL either. They follow the NFL and golf, that's about it. Well, you have the Panthers. Maybe they'd follow MLB if there was only a local home team to follow.

  17. I swear, it often seems that baseball just wants to run it's fans away. To the best of my knowledge, none* of my local friends pay even the slightest attention to baseball. Some of them never played and were never really fans, while others seemed to abandon the game following the last labor strike in 1994-1995. They just found other pursuits to occupy their time and never looked back. 18. David Wright was always one of my favorite Mets. He had a very solid career through the age of 30. Had injuries not completely derailed his career, he may have at least been in the conversation for HOF consideration with another 5-6 good years. Still a solid player, that represented the Mets and himself admirably. He should be in the Mets HOF.
  19. I wonder what Pete Rose thinks about all this. I'd wager he's in favor of it.
  20. Cancer sucks!!! Thoughts and prayers to jeff and his loved ones.
  21. I really liked Granderson as a player. I would love to have him with the Mets organization in some manner, possibly as a coach or minor league manager, but I don't think I would want to put him in charge of the MLB team for his go at managing.
  22. I would be fine with Showalter if the Mets can land him as manager. The Mets have been through numerous inexperienced managers (Randolph, Callaway, Beltran - sort of, and Rojas) over recent without much success to show for it. Their best seasons during the 21st century were under the experienced guidance of Bobby Valentine and Terri Collins. The Mets can't afford to try breaking in a new manager, particularly when this team is currently being constructed to win now.
  23. I'm hoping that Eppler will be busy finding a manager during the lock out. A great opportunity for the Mets to secure a manager and get a coaching staff in place. We Will see how that comes together.
  24. 3 years / $71 Mil. - Would have slotted perfectly in the 3rd spot in the rotation. The Mets are supposedly still targeting pitching (well, once the CBA is settled). It will be interesting to see who they get and the terms of the deal compared to Stroman's deal with the Cubs.
