  1. I really wanted the Mets to make an attempt to retain Stroman. He was the Mets best and most reliable pitcher last season. DeGrom was outstanding, but he wasn't reliable or dependable. Stroman has some hot dog in him, but he was fun to watch. I wish him well with the Cubs, just not when facing the Mets.

Apparently, money talks. I guess that shouldn't be such a surprise. I should have known better. For years, we watched players line up to take George Steinbrenner's money and it seldom mattered that he was a royal pain in the ass. I just wish Steve Cohen would lighten up a little on the twitter 'verse.

Stro, at least from his own tweets, wants to be a Met (I don't think Scherzer really does). The longer the Scherzer deal drags on without resolution, the more I feel he will be signing elsewhere. As the Mets spend all their time and energy trying to close with Max, the more they may see the other options (Stroman, Ray, & Rodon) disappearing from the market in this, race against the clock, signing frenzy. Wow, while I was posting the above. The Scherzer deal is being announced as imminent by many sources. Though, MLB.com and ESPN have neither declared it a done deal ("finalizing") as of this moment.

Boras is going to need a little time to take the Mets offer to the Dodgers and try to get them to top it. When I got up this morning and there was still no news of a finalized deal, I had the same thoughts as marshmallowmilkshake. The longer it drags out from being "moments from a deal", the more likely Max is to sign elsewhere (most likely Los Angeles). I hope I am wrong, but that is the feeling I get.
  6. The free agent market is in high gear. The pitchers are going fast. Best make Stroman or Robbie Ray a solid offer. I think Cohen's infatuation with Max Scherzer means the Mets will only get one starter for the rotation (possibly none if Scherzer is adamant about remaining on the west coast).
  7. If the Mets sign Scherzer for an AAV of $40+ Mil., then Cohen best be prepared to back up truck to keep DeGrom (assuming he can stay healthy). Gausman signs with Toronto for 5 yrs. at $110 Mil.
  8. I think the Mets will have to greatly overpay to get Scherzer to come to New York. He has definitely expressed a preference to being on the west coast. Great as he is, I don't think he is worth $40 Mil./yr. for 2-3 years. I would prefer getting Gausman and making a serious run for a Stroman return. I'm not as sold on Jon Gray
  9. The Hot Corner wrote: Nice depth piece. He likely fills the role that Kevin Pillar did last year. The Mets need far more help in the outfield than simply adding Plummer and Canha. So, they go out and land Starling Marte. Not necessarily at the top of my outfield wish list, but I like it. He adds speed and proven defense in CF. If the Mets are going to react this soon to complaints, I guess I should start bitching about the lack of additions to the starting pitching rotation.
  10. Speed and a proven glove for CF at a reasonable price. I like it. Nimmo can shift over to LF. Things are picking up. Now if we can resign Stroman (or another front line starter) we will be onto something.

  12. Edgy MD wrote: Pretty analogous to the Jed Lowrie signing. That's a pretty awful thing to say about a guy. I see him as a Jonathan Villar replacement. Maybe not quite as fast, but with a more power. Will likely fil a similar role. Hopefully, he doesn't need to be forced into a virtual everyday starter as Villar was for much of the year. Nice addition, but we need a stud outfielder and 1 or 2 good, reliable starting pitchers.
  13. Last year I got the impression that players viewed the Mets new regime under Cohen's ownership as a place to be, on a team with a bright future. I no longer believe that is the perception among many players and their agents. The organization appears to be in disarray at this point. Time will tell as this off season plays out, but I don't think it took too long for the Mets to lose their status as a place to be.
  14. Lefty Specialist wrote: He won't be low-cost, though. Focus on bringing Stroman back. He's a lot more crucial than Matz. I would definitely prefer bringing Stroman back over a return of Matz.
  15. At this point in the off-season, losing Loup is a bigger blow to the Mets than losing Syndergaard, imho.
  16. I definitely missed an opportunity. However, I now have a better understanding of the how the Rule 5 Draft works.
  17. Thank you all for the explanation regarding the age of signing and time since signing. I expected there was something in the rule that I did not fully understand. I appreciate your enlightening me. Now I understand why they chose to protect Oller instead of Alvarez of Baty.
  18. I just saw that the Mets added 4 players to their 40 man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. I have no problem with that, but either there is something to the rule that I don't fully understand or I have some issues with some of the players they chose to protect. The 4 players they added in order to protect them from Rule 5 (according to MLB site) SS Ronnie Mauricio - Sure, you have to protect one of our best prospects 3B Mark Vientos - Okay, he is also considered one of our best farm hands RHP Jose Butto - Not familiar with him, but he is only 23 and has pretty decent numbers RHP Adam Oller - ? - Decent numbers, but nothing that jumps out at me aside from his Ks/9 My question is, why are C Francisco Alvarez, 3B Brett Baty, RHP Brett Allen & RHP J.T. Ginn not protected? They are generally considered (along with Mauricio and Vientos) our top minor league talents. The only reason I can come up with (other than you obviously can't protect everyone) is that they may be considered too young and considered to need more minor league time before they could be MLB ready. So the Mets brass don't believe teams would draft them, since they would need to place them on their MLB rosters in order to keep them. Is my thinking correct? Or is there another aspect to the Rule 5 draft that I don't know or understand?
  19. =Gwreck post_id=81477 time=1637380000 user_id=56] I take this to mean Francis is a Mets fan.
  20. Pass. Matz has talent, but he was far too inconsistent and unreliable (oft injured). There are far better options available on the pitching market.
  21. I really don't care that Syndergaard left. Likely did the team a favor. After professing his love for New York and his desire to remain a Met, his departure just seemed rather abrupt. I think the $18.4 mil. of the quality offer made to Syndergaard would be better spent trying toward resign Stroman. At this point, I would much rather retain Stroman than to have kept Syndergaard.
  22. For all the "I love New York" talk, Syndergaard dumped the Mets pretty quickly. After being paid for 2 years (without his playing), Noah $how$ where his loyaltie$ lie.
  23. Only seems fair, since pulling for this team tends to make one want to drink.
  24. It has been mentioned a few times over the course of the season that Jeff McNeil is a scratch golfer.
  25. Diaz makes it a little more exciting than I would hope, but gets through the 9th to preserve the win.
