  1. The team seems to have collectively stopped hitting. Hits are few and far between and hits with runners in scoring position are practically nonexistent.
  2. At 5'8" tall and a stocky 175 pounds, Jett may be short, but he isn't exactly small. He is an 18 year old shortstop out of Rockwall-Heath High School in Texas that is signed, sealed, and delivered. The 14th overall pick in the 2022 draft has agreed to terms ($3.9 Mill.) with the Mets and will be heading to Florida within the week. Jett brings a right handed bat that has proven to be proficient at barreling up pitches. He is a line drive hitter with surprising power. Most scouts considered Jett one of the best combinations of hitting and speed available in the draft. He has good hands and is considered to have the defensive chops to be a true major league shortstop in the future. Many scouts believe that he could also slot well defensively at second base or centerfield if need be. His father and uncle both attended Stony Brook University and Jett lived on Long Island as a young child, so he has a New York connection. Welcome to the Mets family Jett.
  3. RBI double by Guillorme gets the Mets first run of the night. 4-1 Padres. Blankenhorn needs to come through here and get Guillorme home.
  4. Pete made a nice stop and throw to get the lead runner at the plate. However, as Keith pointed out, he failed to give a target in foul territory which made the return throw much more difficult for Mazeika.
  5. We have half (a really BIG half) of a DH platoon. Now the Mets need a RH bat to pair with him.
  6. I believe DeGrom will make it back to the Mets rotation this season. I expect he will be dominant upon his return. I expect his return will be rather short (2-4 outings) before he is once more shut down due to injury. I had a friend, who is a Mets fan (few of them around here) that at the start of spring training told me the Mets should trade DeGrom while his value was high. I told him he was crazy. The Mets couldn't trade DeGrom now that he had recovered from his injury and was pitching well in the early spring. My friends counter was that DeGrom may be an elite talent, but he was totally unreliable. He predicted the Mets would hold onto DeGrom and he would assuredly (in his opinion) break down and again miss most of the season. I believe I was the crazy, misguided participant of of spring conversation.
  7. Many of the "experts" yesterday were saying Parada is a big time bat that hits for average and power, but needs to work on his catching skills, particularly his throwing (release and accuracy). Jet Williams was compared to Altuve, but with true shortstop skills. If that comes to fruition, we will all be quite happy with him.
  8. Wow! The Mets escape with a second extra inning victory today. The Mets made the plays they had to make down the stretch. The Cubs, on the other hand, show that bad teams that are struggling just find a way to lose close games.
  9. Trevor Williams with the rare 3 inning save, Mets win 8-0. Happy, Happy.
  10. They walked 500 miles to get there.
  11. Alonso unloads a bomb to straight away centerfield to make it 8-0 good guys.
  12. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=99786 time=1657848794 user_id=119] Thompson seems somewhat wild.
  13. Escobar with yet another line drive hit for the Mets. Makes it 5-0 Mets as the Cubs go to their bullpen in the 5th.
  14. Escobar with a chance to bust the game open. Bases loaded and one out.
  15. Carrasco on cruise control through 4. Cubs manager, David Ross, had apparently seen enough. He got ejected for arguing that Carrasco was not coming set in the stretch. Probably just wanted to go have an Old Style.
  16. The Mets are teeing off on Thompson like it's batting practice.
  17. After Pete's feable swing at McHugh's slider away. You could just tell he was going to see it again on the 0-2 pitch. Not surprisingly, his swing the second time was no less feable than the first time. Completely fooled by the pitch. McHugh is dealing with cutter and a nasty slider.
  18. I like how he terms approximately $260,000 for 2 days as "...little bit of of money". A little out of touch with the common man.
  19. I guess Peterson should have come inside with that last pitch to Olson like Mazeika wanted. Still a wonderful effort by Peterson.
  20. =roger_that post_id=99264 time=1657562002 user_id=128] Yeah, but that means that you've effectively moved the defense out of what they think is their best positioning against you. What I'm talking about here is bunting against the shift, not bunting against a more traditional defense.
  21. Time to switch glove manufacturers and styles since, according to comments, this is not the first time it has happened to him.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Losing Jacob Reed in favor of Samuel Clay sounds like committee assignments in The Continental Congress. But if you thought pitching three strong innings to keep the Mets in the game and then getting demoted was a dis' to Adonis Medina, standup sidearmer Jake Reed throwing two perfect innings to keep the Metsin a game, only to get demoted and DFA'd is a megadis'. It's tough being a reliever that isn't among the teams top bullpen options. Whether you do a good (or a bad) job, you are likely to be demoted (or DFA) following any multiple inning appearances. The only relevance the quality of your performance has on your fate is the personal satisfaction of a job well done in helping your team and a greater likelihood that you will brought back up after the next (expendable) reliever takes his turn on the reliever merry go round.
  23. Stealing victory from the jaws of defeat. It really helped that the Marlins pretty much spit the bit with one out to go.
