    Carson Benge just trashed that offering from King. Just like that, 1-0 Mets.

    That ball from Liam Hicks looked like a super ball. Semien was prepared to to field it and the ball practically bounced over his head.

    The Marlins defense is a gift that just keeps giving. It is almost like watching a Little League game.

    Vientos lives by the philosophy, swing hard because you might hit it. That is his 7th HR with 38 Ks this season. For his career that is HR 61 with 371 Ks. Pair that with a .261 OBP this season and .290 OBP for his career and I don't think Vientos is the answer now or in the future.

    Going to be a lot of bullpen innings tonight. Meyers with a 33 pitch inning (66 through 3) and now Peralta with a 38 pitch inning (65 through 3).

    The Mets score 2 first inning runs. First and third with only one out. I am not accustomed to such occurences.

    I will take a guess that possibly Vientos got a hold of a fastball when Kimbrel was with the Phillies.

    Of the two, I would prefer a reasonable "salary floor" so that teams have to at least make some effort to be competitive. Floor/Ceiling it doesn't matter the cost of MLB attendance will continue to skyrocket.

    I would go with a platoon of Jared Young vs RHP and Vientos vs. LHP at least until either Polanco returns. It is sink or swim time for Vientos. Clifford needs to put the ball in play more. Striking out 40% of the time (at AAA no less) isn't going to cut it. A Rob Deer/Joey Gallo type hitter isn't going to do much to turn this team around. The Mets already have far to many hitters that are struggling to hit .225 or better.

    I'm going to go with Juan Soto since he seems to hit HRs against virtually everyone at some point and time.

    I don't recall seeing a batter challenging 2 consecutive pitches. Sal Stewart got the first pitch right, but the second was much closer and just nicked the bottom of the zone. Then Weaver froze him with a fast ball on the inner corner.

    Command is one of my concerns regarding Tong. He has walked 24 hitters in 28 innings at Syracuse this season. That leads to the high pitch count we are seeing today and makes him have to pitch behind in the count too much.

    Semien rips a hard line drive, but gets robbed on a nice grab by De La Cruz. Wagaman hit his hard shot where no one was going to rob him.

    Tong appears to have a lower arm slot & release point than last season. That should give him more arm side run on his 4-seam and change up.

    I am going to give tonight's game a try to see how Tong looks. I am not convinced he is the real deal (at least at present). First he needs better command so he isn't walking so many batters and pitching behind in the count. I am concerned that he basically a 2 pitch pitcher in that 86% of his pitchers are either 4-seam fastball (62%) or change (25%). He has a that he throws almost exclusively to right handed batters. He has a cutter for a 4th option but it accounts for only 3-4% of his pitches. So for left handed hitters, he is basically 4-seamer up or change up down. It will be interesting to see how he fairs. The Mets really need him to be good (very good).
