1. In the dictionary under "fearsome lineup," there's a picture of a lineup card with Marlon Anderson batting sixth.Oh wait, that's in the Dictionary Of Sarcasm.edit: Apologies to Al Moran, who I somehow forgot to find a photo of for ten straight posts. Sorry, Al.
2. You know? I thought about this in the car today. I want nothing to do with Gary Sheffield. It's bad enough that I have to root for Tom &#@$ Glavine. Why don't they trade David Wright for Chipper! Deal Reyes for Jeter! Hire John Tudor and Bobby Bonilla as coaches! Make my freaking head explode, Omar! Come on, big guy! Do you want to make us hate this team?
3. This is off-topic, but didn't merit its own topic, so I figured sticking it in "News Of The Weird" would work.Is this the Tigers' real mascot? It looks like a high school mascot. You can practically see up his right sleeve. Hey, Ilitch, spend some money to get a real freaking tiger made, will ya?
4. And there's 268.I always loved Biggio. He coached at a baseball camp I attended for a few years; I never had him as my coach, but I saw him around camp. I was very excited when I got my first Craig Biggio baseball card... I felt like I knew a celebrity, even though I don't think I said more than two words to him in three summers. Definitely a Hall of Famer in my personal HoF.
5. Nice job, Edgy.
6. I'd take Matsui, but he's not much defensively, and he's not a right fielder. Unless you think Floyd has some value and is worth dealing, I don't know if Matsui is a fit.
7. Strange question, but why would someone randomly e-mail you and tell you Mike Bishop is dead? It must be a relative who was checking out his profile on the UMDB. Weird.I had never even heard of the guy before this thread.
8. The media's probably not going to get too worked up over obscure former backup catchers, but you'd think it would show up in an obit somewhere. I checked the [u:ccfd699701]Bakersfield Californian[/u:ccfd699701] obit archives, but came up blank.
9. That's why I added the caveat at the end. Like I said... I don't want him; I want someone with his bat.
10. I don't want Sheffield either, but boy, when you look at the numbers... a bat like that would like nice in the center of this lineup. I just want the bat to be held by a different guy.

GIRL FIGHT! CLEAR THE FLOOR!
13. Can we deal Jae Seo (a young starter), Hernandez (a "quality" reliever), and Eric Valent/Ron Calloway (a left-handed hitting outfielder) for Burnett?(I'm kidding. I don't think Florida would make that deal.)
14. Can someone lock this thread so we can pretend it doesn't exist? I don't see this ending well.
15. I have it in my photobucket.

OOH! I love the MST3K idea. I'm not a fan of the show, but I love the concept. Actually, doesn't ESPN Classic air something like that right now? It can be a spinoff of that.
17. Yeah, Bobby! Give 'em hell.
18. Dammit! We have tickets for tomorrow night's game and we hadn't seen him yet!

Looper.

Edgy's right; it's (at least partially) the nature of the post-Eckersley closer beast. There's a reason that Rollie Fingers is a Hall of Famer, and a reason why Bruce Sutter should be; they were closers, not ninth-inning pitchers. (And Sutter should be in the Hall for his beard alone, but that's another issue.) When you create high-risk, low-reward situations like today's closers face, failure is going to be magnified and remembered.I'm not saying there haven't been lights-out closers recently; look at Rivera or Gagne or Hoffman. But even those guys blow games.
20. So I can end an argument with "Even Hitler saved 38 games in 1933."?
21. Huh?!?
22. That list is only good through 2004: I'll go back and took off all the guys who play for different teams in '05.We still need a third baseman and, well, an entire pitching staff.edit: For now, you have to leave Reyes, Wright, Bell, et al, off this team. Retired guys only.

Looper.

I hate Armando Benitez with the passion of a thousand fires. Last night, against the Yankees, on Sunday Night Baseball, I call on Looper. Benitez would have given up a 600-foot home run in that spot, because he would have been trying to throw 110-mph fastballs -- and he would have left one flat over the plate.
