    TRADED

Byrnes signed a three-year extension, then got dealt a week later?

  3. Chicken fingers are the great ballpark food value secret -- they usually come with a heap of fries for around the price of two hot dogs. BIg thumbs up for the chicken fingers at Ducks games.
  4. How did I miss God Save The Fucking Queen? I must have slept through that part.
  5. I agree, 62. The graphics were odd. But to their credit, they left Scooter (or whatever their stupid little CG character is) at home.
  6. And I think Omar was more than happy to get rid of another member of the "old guard" around Shea Stadium.
  7. This is as good a thread as any to rant about something that will likely never change, but is very relevant. On behalf of all of us -- and there are a lot of us -- with peanut allergies... please keep your peanuts and your peanut shells to yourself. The peanut allergy is very severe; even dust in the air can send us into anaphylactic shock. I don't care if you enjoy your peanuts at the ballgame; just please please please don't throw your shells all over the place. If the smell is overbearing, and there are other seats available, I'll move; you're not obligated to be responsible for my health. All I -- we -- ask is that you be cognizant of your surroundings, and be aware of this very serious medical condition.Thanks.
  8. 7-0 Bad Guys. Yawn.
  9. How the hell did I know Josh Gibson is a Hall of Famer, but I missed the obvious point that he never played in the major leagues? Think, Wolf. Think.
  10. STL: Cedeno for Wilson Delgado
  11. That's a very Metly roster. So in semi-related news, I splurged and bought Out Of The Park Baseball, because I needed a new computer baseball game, and this seems to have all the features I want.I downloaded the 2005 rosters, made the tweaks I wanted to make, and started the season at lunch. Opening Day, Phils at Mets: Pedro goes seven, allowing three runs. We tie the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Victor Diaz, and since Pedro had thrown 117 pitches, I went to the pen for Bert.First batter in the top of the eighth is Pat Burrell.Home run.Phils win, 4-3.Who says computer baseball doesn't imitate life?
  12. I want to edit one:KC - the McReynolds for Coleman deal

  14. Piazza can do that drummer drumstick-twirly-in-his-fingertips thing, which is pretty cool.
  15. MFS62 wrote:Bonus Question: There are 14 catchers in the Baseball Hall of Fame. How many can you name? Some of those are obvious. I'll try my hand at the last one (although I have no idea about the "never played a major league game" question).CarterBenchFerrellYogiCampyDickeyFiskJosh Gibson?Eight. Wow. I suck.
  16. I remember stumbling across reruns of that old Derby show as a kid; I thought it was awesome. They could definitely bring that back in the offseason.
  17. The Home Run Derby might just be the best part of the All-Star festivites (although I actually enjoy the celebrity softball games too). I think they should add more, a la the NHL:Fastest Pitch - Billy Wags, Armando, et al just try to dial it up as hard as they canFastest Around The Bases - Guys like Reyes, Joey Gathright, and Scott Podsednik whack a ball into the gap, then have to race around the bases.Strongest Arm - Ichiro, Raul Mondesi, Jose Guillen, and that sixteen-year old the Mets just signed can hurl balls in from the right-field corner, trying to hit targets at second, third, and home.Target Practice - Targets are set up around the field, and guys try to hit as many as they can. That'd be a good time.
  18. Johnny Dickshot wrote:Because of his arm strength, a number of scouts had expressed interest in Martinez, comparing him to fellow Dominicans Raul Mondesi and Jose Guillen.Arm strength comparisons good; brain strength comparisons bad.
  19. Wow.24.Old record was 15.
  20. Abreu hits a 434-footer to get it started.
  21. No Mr. Koo with his scoreless inning? Blah. Cliffy, then.
  22. There's a little New in all of us.
  23. I want to make a "Rick's Ten-Minute Tutoring" joke, but I'm not going to.
  24. Very funny.
  25. Edgy DC wrote:One thing that can make the Mets gunshy is that most of the guys on the bubble -- Williams, Offerman, Daubach, Graves -- have no options, but the Mets have shed some veterans this season with few tears. I do think there'll be some shuffling.Probably not the best thing for team morale, but I'd punt all four of them and get younger guys up here NOW.
