  1. Hey, Ron! Long time no see.
  2. Farmer Ted wrote: I was in Scranton recently (no, not a Dundler Mifflin meeting) and the papers were reporting that the team may be up for sale, just like the Tides' situation. The local government controls the stadium and has some weird oversight over the mangement group. It's a Phillies/Yankees area. It would be close to NYC but I'm not sure the fans would take. Newark perhaps? Let's buy them! We can rename them the Cranepools. Kase, start a fund.
  3. I don't know what took me so long to do this, but since we have a Seawolf in the Mets' organization, I owe it to my campus to make sure to keep him in the family. Nick Abel was an drafted signee this summer, after posting a 1.69 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 16 innings of work -- picking up three saves for a team that finished 25-29 -- as a senior. After starting the season in Brooklyn, he was promoted to Hagerstown in late July. He's 1-1, 1.35, with 17 K/5 BB in 20 innings with the Suns.
  4. I know wearing a flannel shirt every day didn't exactly make me a runway model, but I'm soooo glad I didn't come of age in the seventies.
  5. Can you get that freaking Yankee hat off our roster? Use his photo from 1994 or whenever he was a Met last time.
  6. The Mets have a 17-game lead in the division. Wow. (It's going to be 16 1/2 in a few minutes, but at least for now...)
  7. Willets Point wrote: Let it be recorded for posterity that Reyes rounded the bases in 14.81 seconds. It takes me longer to walk to the kitchen to get a beer. Of course, Willets' kitchen is in Dubuque, Iowa.
  8. And Guillermo Mota comes in to face Toby Hall, giving us the rare GameCast appearance of a guy in an Indians hat facing a guy in a Devil Rays hat during a Mets-Dodgers game. edit: Losing my mind. He's not facing Hall. But GameCast says he is.
  9. Reyes actually slowed down a bit between first and second. He could have made it all the way back around to first again. The inside-the-park home run is AWESOME.
  10. Wait! I just remembered that I tape all the games on the DVR! Hells yeah.
  11. Crap! I hate when I miss things! Dammit.
  12. Edgy DC wrote: We need shots of the Ms. Monk. The TransNun, or whatever. Because Edgy's secretly putting together a CPF Wifey Watch thread.
  13. "I want my two dollars!" Oh wait, that was John Cusack.
  14. Baby Aspirin should get a sip or two of Schaefer from me tonight.
  15. I dig that site, OO. Good catch!
  16. HahnSolo wrote: Look in the background of that Carter photo. Jim Leyland looks worse then than he does now. Forget that, look at the size of the videocamera the guy has all the way on the left side of the frame! How did his arm not break holding that thing?

Led Mets in slugging percentage with .396 in 2003. Led Mets in on base plus slugging with .714 in 2003. Led Mets in strikeouts with 124 in 2003. Led Mets in total bases with 227 in 2003. Anyone recognize who it is? [sal]I can't believe we traded this guy and kept that Wright kid!! Someone call Tampa (or Cincinnati, or Houston, or whoever pays him these days) and see if we can correct this mistake.[/sal]
  18. Yeah, it's Clue, but Cooby's read as haiku to me. Sorta.

  20. ="Frayed Knot"]Actually, I think it was Posada who caught him straying too far off the base .... although where d'hell he was planning on going I have no idea. Posada, btw, is having a much improved year both offensively AND defensively this season (bucking those predictions for mid-30s catchers) but I'll repeat what I've said a number of times this year; that Yanqui opponents seem to be in a contest with each other to see how many outs they can make on the bases. It's not just the caught stealings - though there have been a number of those - but the stupid shit like DeJesus (a Rutgers man) getting picked off 3rd while trailing by 5 at the time and other inexplicable stuff that I see virtually every time I turn on a MFY game. Well, that explains it. (JK, SK.)
  21. I don't want tension. I don't want to beat Philly and then the Yankees, because my cholesterol is probably high and I don't need the stress. I want a parade down the fucking Canyon of Heroes or whatever they call it, and I want it as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
  22. I love Cliff. But ultimately, I love this team more. And knowing that Cliff has a rather ugly history of injury, I wondered openly last winter if it wasn't worth trading him, in this, the last year of his contract, before he got hurt again. Yes, he was outstanding last year. But it seemed like folks 'round these parts were inking him in for a 30 HR/90 RBI season this year, and I didn't think there was any reasonable way to expect that, and while he had value, I thought he was worth dealing. I have no idea of Cliff's clubhouse value; and that's probably a factor in dealing. (Of course, it didn't stop them from dealing Cameron, but there were other positional factors at play there.) He seems to be one of the team's spiritual leaders, and that is probably a factor. I also have no idea if there was any interest from any other teams in Cliff. His salary is reasonable, but if I'm aware of his injury history, the other 29 GMs probably are too. So they might have been just as wary, and I'm not saying that Omar should have dealt him just to deal him; there was a possibility that he would have been able to repeat his 2005. Of course, it hasn't mattered, at least during the regular season, so this whole point is moot.

  24. And Mota is still shown in an Indians cap. Does no one in major league baseball own a digital camera?
