  1. I don't see what's so wrong with Piazza signing with an independent league if he can't get a major-league invite. The guy's a baseball player; if he wants to continue playing baseball, then he might not have any other options, and the Ducks have a solid history with ex-major leaguers on the roster and a dedicated fan base who'd be thrilled to see it happen. I honestly wouldn't be surprised -- or disappointed -- at all. Why is retiring and playing golf every day more dignified or graceful than continuing to do what you love to do?

  3. Come on, Ducks. Do the right thing.
  4. I believe it's a coastal thing -- WFAN is the only 660 east of the Mississippi. When I worked for 1180 WHAM in Rochester, which is a clear channel station, we'd occasionally get word of interference from a Cuban station that would block our signal in the southern states, but most nights, it was clear as a bell just about anywhere. Yes, it's 50,000 watts, and yes, the AM signal is clearer at night because of the way it bounces off the atmosphere; that's also why it travels farther than FM.
  5. I lose 1050 a lot... I'd hate to see the Mets leave WFAN, but as long as they're on a clear-channel station, I don't terribly care.
  6. Not only is Peterson being ignored, but Conti thinks it's hilarious. I'm sure Johan eventually got around to pounding Peterson's rock. It's all good.
  7. I'm with BG on this. Minor leaguers wash out all the time... it's just that this guy happened to be in a bestselling book.
  8. ="metirish"] I swear I thought that was Art Howe on the far right. I don't know who it is, but he gave me the heebie-jeebies. ="metirish"] Has the Y always been on top of the N? That looks wrong to me.
  9. What? The A's didn't consider a prospect who got picked nine spots ahead of them? Don't you think that might be because they knew he'd be gone by the time their slot came around? ]Four of the seven players picked by Oakland (57 percent) among the first 39 picks in that draft have played in the majors, including Brown. Of the other 32 picks, 20 have played in the majors (62.5 percent). That's a pretty small sample size, so that'd be statistically insignificant. I know Beane gets picked on because he had a book written about him, but this is a stupid article.
  10. Who the hell are Ced Landrum and Tito Navarro? You made them up. Remember Frank Tanana? Yikes. Those were lean years.
  11. Left out of the story is how Brett was so excited about the prank, he went home and beat up his dog.

  14. Wait. Cha won't be invited, or S won't be invited?
  15. Wait... "skipped" past your office dressed like that? Let's put a collection together to get Edgy a camera phone.
  16. Maybe they'll call their mascot "Ozzy."
  17. Note to self: Include Anna Benson in the list for Parody Contest '09.
  18. There once was a Met: Taylor, Chuck...
  19. Or, they could leave the apple where it is, as part of the parking lot. Then people could take pictures with it, but the new ballpark can move forward. Perhaps that appeases everyone?
  20. Apple-haters suck.
  21. Yes, absolutely... but if Pedro was caught beating his kids, or electrocuting people in his pool, or murdering people after getting into car accidents, then we'd come down on him like we would on any other player.
  22. Most likely because what he did was illegal, and what Pedro did wasn't.
  23. For me, retiring a number is about my personal association with that number. It irks me to see other players in #17; it'll probably irk me the same way to see some middle reliever wear #31 in 2012. I guess I don't care if they're "retired," per se, but at least wait until we're all dead to reissue them.
  24. Fred, just GIVE HIM THE FUCKING MONEY. Thanks.
  25. Nice of her to wear a New York Rangers jersey to the photo shoot.
