  1. I say it should be the Houston Street (or Streets). Totally mess with people's heads.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: We should put it to a vote. I'm sure they'll abide by our decision. No way, because then they'll wind up being named after some crappy Zebra song.
  3. These were out eight finalists last year: Frank Cashen Dwight Gooden Jane Jarvis Davey Johnson Mike Piazza Darryl Strawberry Bobby Valentine Rube Walker Four of them made it (Johnson, Cashen, Gooden, Strawberry). I think Piazza is a good guess. Strengthen his Mets credentials prior to the Cooperstown cap decision. It won't be Bobby V because of his new gig, but I'd forgotten about Jarvis and Walker.
  4. Note to future parents -- when MiniWolf was born, we knew he was going to get attached to SOMETHING, so we kinda forced the issue with one particular teddy bear who we named Bobo (after a stuffed animal on a commercial) and kept it with him all the time. When we bought Bobo, we bought three, and kept two of them in reserve hiding in a closet in case of emergency. MiniWolf throws up on Bobo in the middle of the night? Daddy runs downstairs and "cleans" him really quickly and VOILA! Bobo's as good as new, while throw-up-Bobo is in the washing machine.
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I just skimmed Houston's Wikipedia page, and based on that, I think an appropriate name would be the Bayous. (Houston was founded on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou, which seems to explain the name of the minor league team. The city has four major bayous.) Then they could reacquire Michael Bourn.
  6. Franco and Piazza are both good guesses.

Prince's mansion should have a special shrine room devoted to Scott Boras This contract is perhaps the most insane i've ever seen... does anyone think Fielder has a chance at lasting that long with his body? Looks like the Tigers think so.
  8. The Twitters seem to think that he's headed to Detroit for nine years, which is interesting.
  9. Met Hunter wrote: I hear what you're saying. Through the years my wife has occasionally given me a hard time, but I always keep it in check. That being said, bringing Clarence back to New York. Seeing the smiles on everyones faces, from young and old fans, to Met personnel and former players and HOFers. Giving him a sense of respect he hasnt realized in decades has made it all worth it for me. He appreciated the scratch too. Blargh. Knew I should have gone on Sunday. I'll track him down for the collection eventually, I hope.
  10. Super short-prints in the Series 1 set, released next week. They'll be in Series 2 for real, which usually comes out in late spring.
  11. TransMonk wrote: I think I will always remember his defensive plays opposing the Mets than anything specific he did for the Mets. This. I conflate him with Lenny Harris; I thought of Willie Harris as the team jokester as a result.
  12. I'm waiting for Greg; Val said he'd concede, so let's get moving.

  14. Man, Omir Santos was a hell of a player. I remember that guy. Remember Pedro Feliciano, too.

  17. Val said he'd be up by the weekend. I'm ready to move on. Go tomorrow?
  18. Hmm. My votes, for now: Jeff Bagwell Craig Biggio Edgar Martinez Dale Murphy Mike Piazza Tim Raines Curt Schilling Alan Trammell Larry Walker I'm wavering on Edgar, Raines, and Schilling.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves.... I don't dispute that the organization had come to a reckoning, or that they have a good clue what lies ahead. (Who knows? But they probably have a better notion than than Minaya's team did seven years ago when they signed him. I hope so.) My main problem is that, in the end, he was essentially traded for Ronny Cedeo. And I don't care that he didn't work out. A $1.4 million bonus (in 2005 dollars) to a hot Dominican teenager that you believe in is still a better bet than a 2012 $1.2 million (plus incentives) deal for Ronny C. to be your backup shortstop. Especially for a kid who's only 22 years old.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It was easy to joke at first that his acquisition was about appeasing local Asian journalists but that's exactly what it looked like in the end. That's honestly what I'll remember. That reporter who kept asking about Asian players.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Don't be joking. Aaron Sele was never a Met. Neither was Tom Glavine.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: Jos Reyes ... 29.3 career WAR. Dude had five ABs for the Cubs in 2006. Don't know how that equates to 29.3 WAR. Told you the stat was flawed.
