  1. It's just Stephen Drew, people. We're not talking about Cal Ripken in his prime.
  2. Monday 3/24 is no good, but other than that, I'm wide open the last two weeks in March.
  3. I have zero interest in Drew.
  4. What were you doing that would cause you to stumble over pictures of Junior Ortiz? When I stumble over pictures, it's generally cute cats or stuff like this: How is that guy not dead?
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: Oh, I didn't realize they were talking about THAT Maxx Tissenbaum The second X is admittedly a little confusing.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Yeah, that 7-payer deal was yesterday and involved all minor leaguers and no big names among them. WRONG. One of those traded from SD to TB was single-A infielder AND FORMER STONY BROOK SEAWOLF Maxx Tissenbaum.
  7. Nancy's Wikipedia entry says she's no longer married to Ray as of 2009. That makes me sad, because I liked that they were this ubersports couple back in the day.
  8. I hate the stupid Yankees.
  9. RealityChuck wrote: Lannan went to college where I work. Oh, SURE, Mets. Let's sign Chuck's guy, but let Joe Nathan sign with the stupid Tigers. Pfft.

I didn't read it as a suggestion to set up an actual play league. That would be correct. But if y'all want to be inspired to set up an online league, go to town. I found one taker so far on the baseball card board I'm on. It's no big deal if my idea doesn't come together -- I just pick up the Marlins on eBay for the Koehler card and I'm good to go. I figured I'd throw it out there in case any of you DO play, and want a handful of extra teams.

But I don't need to buy the whole game again, and I could just go on eBay and buy it standalone, but I think it'd be more fun to get a group of people together and split the purchase and break up the teams. So if I can corral up five other people, for example, we'd get six teams each. Anyone interested? Do you have any experience with the computer version? I know its not the same but... I have been rolling the dice with the simulation Extra Innings...Jeff Sagarin wrote the pitching metrics while at MIT..they give you the formula for making player cards.. I got the computer version a while back, but have no idea where that disc is now. I liked the card-formulas thing -- I made a few custom cards at the time. And to address Vic's concern, that's why I recommended that our marine science department hire smg, just so I have someone to play Strat with once in a while.
  13. Fair enough -- figured I'd throw the idea out there and if it worked, cool; if not, no big deal.
  14. Torre in the background, tears falling down like soft rain.
  15. Hey, thanks for the reply. Wasn't sure if this would actually come through, but I figured I'd throw it out there. Threw it up on FB too.

  18. Frayed Knot wrote: The NY Post concocts a list of the ten worst players to a receive one or more HoF votes and "shockingly" comes up with Armando Benitez as the worst ever. That's just obnoxious. I'm coming to hate everything about this whole process.
  19. From the Comics Curmudgeon, and apparently today's paper: http://joshreads.com/?p=20469
  20. Edgy MD wrote: The funny thing about blackballing Clemens and Bonds because it's just so easy to fill out a cromulent ballot without them. I've come full circle on Bonds and McGwire -- I think they should be in. It just doesn't make sense to have a Baseball Hall of Fame without them. By that logic, Clemens should be in too, but I hate him with the passion of a thousand fires, so I wouldn't vote for him. And you're right, I could theoretically do that these next few years because there are so many strong candidates. My ten, for reals this time: Craig Biggio Barry Bonds Greg Maddux Mark McGwire Mike Piazza Tim Raines Frank Thomas T#m Gl@v!ne Curt Schilling Jack Morris And I'd be okay with any or all of these guys if I could vote for more: Jeff Bagwell Jeff Kent Edgar Martinez Mike Mussina Sammy Sosa Alan Trammell Larry Walker

For the 50th anniversary year, I'm assuming. Atchison was mostly forgettable, unfortunately, except that he looked like one of us. Middle relief is a tough gig.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: [crossout]The John Thomson/Mark Little doubleheader vs. Arizona, 2002.[/crossout] Nothing like witnessing the beginnings of a long stretch of irrelevancy. What I meant to say was the 2008 game against the Cubs that we had to win but couldn't despite the leadoff triple in the 9th inning. The whole aura around the Mets just then was poisonous: CitiField was nearing completion behind us (we were seated in the Picnic Area), the Wilpons were scheming with that creepy memorabilia dealer to hack Shea into little peices which they'd sell back to you; Omar was about to make a bunch of idiotic trades and signings; the economy (and Madoff) were on the brink of collapse harboring a new era of budget constraints and subpar product; nobody had the foresight to reconsider the Jerry Manuel appointment even though it happened in midseason duress; Oliver Perez put us in a hole; Marlon Anderson was our best pinch-hitter. I mean, things were screwed then and you could just tell. I could anyway. This for me too. My last game at Shea. So desperately wanted a win, but it just wasn't meant to be. Awful, awful game.

Totally agree. Plus he dismisses "bloggers" ON HIS FUCKING BLOG WHICH IS ALL HE HAS BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE A REAL JOB. Idiot.
  24. Plus I understand the A's do it as well.
