  2. Lefty Specialist wrote: 'Beginning baseball activities' could also mean 'cracking open a beer and watching the game from my Barcalounger'. I AM DOING BASEBALL ACTIVITIES!
  3. I know - I just figured it deserved its own thing because it's such a puzzle. Probably should have searched for the preseason expectations thread but whatever. Wonder if someone else has a similar head case 26yo pitcher who could use a change-of-scenery trade.
  4. 61 walks in 93 major league innings. What am I missing here? Why are we still giving him chances? Yes, he came up gangbusters through the system and was brilliant through 2013. But it's time to move on.
  5. Lefty Specialist wrote: Okay, I have to ask this again. Why. Is. Montero. On. This. Team. Even leaving aside the 3 runs in 3 innings, he threw 87 pitches in 3 innings. 45 pitches in the first inning alone. He's painful to watch. Seriously. And dude's 26; he's had chances. 61 walks in 93 major league innings. CUT HIM LOOSE, SANDY.
  6. So much for that. Cabrera back, Plawecki down as per Laura Albanese on Twitter.
  7. deG pushed back because of "weather" (read: probably a severed arm, we'll see him again in 2019) Montero gets the call, will give up twelve runs in three innings.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: That's no way to earn your Schaefer, man. Good thing I'm the worst Schaefer voter ever. I feel like I don't watch enough innings to be a qualified voter.
  9. I gave up on this game in the seventh because it was firmly in hand. I'm stunned they screwed it up. (And yet, not stunned at all.)
  10. Chad Ochoseis wrote: Conforto has a .425 OBP to go with the home runs. Nobody else on the team comes close. I don't know what sabermetricians think of batting order (as far as I know, they don't know either), but it's not a slam dunk to me that we'd get more out of Conforto by putting him in the middle of the order and somebody with a .320 OBP in the leadoff spot. This. Leave him there.
  11. seawolf17 wrote: Hits a long home run against dangerously overeducated Marlins starter on opening weekend, but then goes into a two-week slump. Terry stays with him, though. Well, I got the home-run-on-opening-weekend part mostly right, anyway.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: And Ronnie is a little bit right about the Hawaiian alphabet. Their language was strictly oral until the mostly New England missionaries came visiting and decided that the natives would be better off having their lives run for them. Then, encouraged to develop a written language, native speakers were supervised into creating one from scratch and in doing so decided that 16 letters were all they needed to cover all the sounds in their speech. Oh, yeah, I agree. It was his turning it into a punchline (that fell flat) that was goofy. I thought he was on a roll. Come on, their making fun of X ("It's xylophone. It's always xylophone, unless it's x-ray, but that's kind of not a word.") was awesome.
  13. LOL "Kansas is the San Pedro de Macoris of flying shit."
  14. This is phenomenal. How did I not know this existed?
  15. Ceetar wrote: I'm hoping there's some some repetitions needed for Harvey off surgery and what not and he'll round out into somewhat closer to his 'norm' by July. Boy, I hope so, because I can't see having all that much confidence in him right now. Heck, I literally forgot he was in the rotation the other night when explaining rotations to MiniWolf. "It's Wheeler tonight, then Milone, then deGrom, then Gsellman... then whoever the fifth guy is, then Wheeler will pitch again on Thursday." I'm the worst.
  16. Ashie62 wrote: Their cleanup hitter bats .165 with 10 homers. Arguably better than Granderson I guess. Not saying much.
  17. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Looks like "TBD" for Thursday has been "D'd". The Pads called up 6-foot, 4-inch, 24-year old Dominican righty Dinelson Lamet. Whether he brings his 11.5 K/9 with him is also TBD. Guy nobody's ever heard of? At least seven shutout innings on Thursday.
  18. Ceetar wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Welcome back, man. Thanks..but.. couldn't one of you have watered my plants? Just put them on the DL; they should be back in a few months.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Jankowski looked like a nice player when we saw him last year. He's done almost nothing since. He got off to a rough start this year because he was trying to play through an injury that happened in the first week of the season -- as young guys do who are on the bubble -- but it finally became too much. He'll be back, but for a guy whose game is speed, a foot injury is a big deal. One of our web guys and I had a plan to be there tomorrow night for a "homecoming" story of sorts, catching up with him on the field before the game, but with him hurt, we scrapped it. It's a tough time for Seawolves baseball right now. With Travis, TK, and Nick Tropeano all on the DL and Joe Nathan pitching like a 42-year-old in AAA, we've got nobody close to the majors. Catcher Pat Cantwell was backing up in AAA, but got traded from Texas to Toronto, demoted to AA, and how HE'S on the DL too. We've got two guys at high-A with Pittsburgh, but even one of them is hurt. Oy.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The next manager is a puzzler though. I know it's not always how these things work, but Pedro Lopez makes a lot of sense.
  21. Brooklyn would be easier for us, definitely.
  22. I buzzed Ceetar on Twitter the other day to come back and visit, but he didn't reply.
  23. Nolasco career vs Mets: 6-8, 5.03 in 24 starts and two bullpen appearances, 4.20 ERA in 8 Citi Field starts. Which means he'll throw a shutout tomorrow night.
  24. Most of Sunday's schedule involves our daughter, so MW and I might just make the trip. I'll let you know.
