Once the Phils/MFYs were knocked out I went right back to being able to watch baseball. I enjoyed the fact that the Phillies won the same number of playoff games as we did last year.

  3. You can see it if it's a single hitter, an isolated event. But hit after hit dropping in in front of him and he staying way the hell out there in deep center. Mystifying to me.
  4. ="Benjamin Grimm"]Over the years I've received several e-mails that lead me to believe that Ron Swoboda has left a long trail of illegitimate children. My estimate is that about 5 per cent of Americans under the age of 40 have some Ron Swoboda DNA. I used a blacklight and found the Swoboda DNA. Last time I stay in that hotel.

  6. Shiny, but how?

  9. Wow. Nice dive by Our-Anus and dig by Delgado. Ol' MVP-boy has been solid with the leather as well as the lumber.
  10. In Joe We Trust.

I suspect it gets blown up with the rest of the park. Which is fine -- that is a Shea-specific marker to me. Man, though, I wish there was video of it.
  13. ="Vince Coleman Firecracker"]The guys in the booth were wondering who the Show looks like with the mustache. The correct answer is, of course, Todd Parker, Thomas Jane's character from Boogie Nights. Well done sir. I was thinking he looked like Jason Giambi's skinny cousin. I also had not realized that this guy was the same one who played Mickey Mantle in Billy Crystal's tedious* 61*.
  14. What a game. I dig the longball.
  15. Elster88 wrote: I was at the Mo Vaughn game, it was against the Braves. I know it's not possible but that ball looked like it was still rising when it hit the Bud sign. Hmm. Why did I think that was a HR off of Boomer Wells in a Mets-MFYs game? Maybe that was another long one that he hit...

Game one of a doubleheader, and his first of 2 homers that game. Olerud also had a grand slam in that one, which you would think I would've remembered over the McGwire shot. Some fanboy I was. I was at the park the next day for a Mets-Astros tilt. You could see the lights that had busted from Mac's shot the day prior (we were sitting on the right field side).

Screw up Arod negotiations (check) 3. Finish 2nd in Santana Sweepstakes (check) 4. To the Mets (check) 5. Have young starters experiment go predictably horrible (check) 6. Lose a half-dozen games in the late innings as a result of strenuous effort to convert Jobba to starter, then lose a few more while he ramps up (check) 7. Have New Boss declare Jobba (4 wins) "the most dominating starting pitcher in baseball" then have him get hurt, then begin transition back to the bullpen assuring scenario will repeat itselkf in '09 (check) 8. Get abused in season series to the Mets including a sweep at MFY Stadium (check) 9. Make a bunch of aggressive trades at deadline, then slide in the standings anyway (check) 10. Acquire Xavier Nady in the middle of his best season only to watch in horror as he reveals himself to be a terrible outfielder and prolific whiffer whose OBP declines by 70 points in a MFY uni (check) 11. Regret not trading Kennedy, Hughes, Cabrera and Cano (check) 12. Have New Boss declare Girardi a complete success despite team tuning him out (check) 13. Come to terms with the fact that Jeter isn't getting any better (check) 14. Have Arod repay massive new contract with season that confirms his every worst reputation as a choker (check) 15. Have Mussina fall short of 20 wins (pending) 16. Have Pettitte turn in the kind of season that might resemble that of a guy who'd used PEDs his whole career and now doesn't (check) 17. Get eliminated (pending) 18. Finish below .500 (pending) 19. Finish in last place (pending) 20. Gay lockerroom affair(s) revealed in Arod divorce battle (pending) You forgot "Thong-gate" and the Giambi moustache, the two most sordid bylines of the 2008 MFYs. God this has been a great year.
  18. I'm in like T*m P*nn.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: The way SNY has it now: - about 1/3 of the games w/Keith & Gary - about 1/3 with Ron & Gary - and about 1/3 with a 3-man booth is not only fine with me but probably exactly how they want it. Not sure Keith for 162 is such a great thing anyway. IOW, no need for a 4th unless either a game of bridge or golf breaks out. I concur. It's a great setup -- variety is the spice of life as they say.
  20. Hernandez, like Tattaglia, is a pimp.
  21. Delgado 4 Santana 4 Ayala .5 Beltran .5 Schneider .5 Feliciano .25 Stokes .25
  22. So what network airs this game? Hopefully it's SNY. The weekend games on CW11 usually get piped in by Time Warner up here on an unused local access channel (like last night), but generally they only do that if they are already on the schedule.
  23. Buh bye, DH. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.
