  1. Doesn't get much lesser than this... Mike Piazza as hitting coach for WBC Italy.
  2. I have two replicas that I got on special, one black and one white/pinstripes. Each of them cost me $20 or so. The white was is a Beltran jersey -- the letters/numbers are just blue. It's clearly a knockoff but I don't care. The black one is a BP jersey, no number or name on it.
  3. Muff Yes, I went with muff. That's how I roll. Meaning, to make an error on a ball put in play. "He muffed it."
  4. ="A Boy Named Seo"]Bush League - 1) A term used to describe an unsportsmanlike play. The term is a reference to the very low minor leagues. Ex. "A-Rod slapping at the pitcher's glove was fuckin' Bush League, man." 2) A Pearl Jam song about President Bush. 3) Fman's Fantasy Baseball League Name. I love you guys.

  6. ="Benjamin Grimm":16upy3mj]="Fman99":16upy3mj]If this was on TV I would go home and watch it.[/quote:16upy3mj] Hang in there for just a few more days. SNY is televising an afternoon game on Thursday.[/quote:16upy3mj] Ooooooooooo Edgy DC Feb 23 2009 10:19 AM Tatis was a late scratch after waking up with a sore palm. Looks liek Ramon Martinez is his replacement. Adam Rubin tracks the game. First inning: Jon Niese pitching. Alex Cora grounded out back to pitcher. Marlon Anderson grounds out to shortstop Jose Reyes. Daniel Murphy strikes out. Prospect Dillon Gee pitching. He's likely ticketed for Double-A rotation to start the season. Luis Castillo, leading off, broken-bat groundout to Nick Evans at first base. Reyes flies out to Ryan Church in right-center. David Wright lines out to center. End of inning. Second inning: Niese back on the mound. Carlos Beltran grounds out to shortstop. Ramon Martinez grounds out to shortstop. Church strikes out swinging on a big curveball from Niese. Gee on mound for second inning of work. Carlos Delgado grounds out to second base on the outfield grass. Yes, the Mets played a shift aganist Delgado as well. Bobby Kielty grounds out to third base. Jeremy Reed flies out to center. End of 2. Third inning: Nelson Figueroa pitching. Nick Evans gets game's first hit. Single to center. Brian Schneider broken-bat groundout to shortstop. Evans to second. Fernando Martinez infield single to second base, on a slow roller to Luis Castillo's backhand. Evans to third. Scorekeeper is harsh on Castillo, actually. Error for Castillo, not hit for Martinez. Cora walks to load bases. Half-inning called because Figueroa reached pitch count. Ahh, intrasquad games. Loose rules. Brandon Knight pitching. Ramon Castro flies out to Evans in foul territory. Scorekeeper overruled, apparently. No error on Castillo. Probably part of Jerry Manuel's plan to build up his confidence. (I kid. It would have been a tough error to score.) Cory Sullivan flies out to center field. Rene Rivera grounds out to third base. End of third. Fourth inning: Figueroa's second inning of work. Jerry Manuel, by the way, has been watching the game from shallow center field. Guess he likes the view. Anderson grounds to out third base. Strong throw from Wright after backhanding the grounder. Murphy grounds out to second base. Edgy DC Feb 23 2009 10:23 AM Beltran called out on strikes looking. Knight takes the mound for his second inning of work. Castillo walks. Reyes fielder's choice groundout to Marlon Anderson at second base. Edgy DC Feb 23 2009 10:37 AM Wild pitch. Reyes to second. Wright walks. Delgado strikes out on changeup. Kielty flies out to shortstop in shallow center. End of four. Fifth inning: Kyle Snyder pitching. Ramon Martinez called out looking on strikes. Church grounds out to second base. Evans strikes out swinging on offspeed pitch. Bobby Parnell pitching. Fman99 Feb 23 2009 10:46 AM ="Edgy DC":2or6yx9s]Beltran called out on strikes looking. [/quote:2or6yx9s] Still hurts. 7. If this was on TV I would go home and watch it.
  8. Yips A baseball player who loses the ability to make routine throws (see Sasser, Mackey) is said to have these.
  9. Ugly finder A foul ball hit into a dugout, presumably destined to "find" someone who is ugly, or to render him that way if he fails to dodge the ball. (from Wikipedia)
  10. ="Gwreck":2orazl7m]You don't have the correct poll choice. The answer is: they're fine, regardless of age. I have a few which are generally only worn to the games. Of course, nothing in black is acceptable.[/quote:2orazl7m] Actually there is an "OK only in blue" choice for the color purists out there. Benjamin Grimm Feb 22 2009 05:40 PM I hate the black uniforms, but the black t-shirts look pretty good. Gwreck Feb 22 2009 06:10 PM ="Fman99":2ltu58ot]Actually there is an "OK only in blue" choice for the color purists out there.[/quote:2ltu58ot] Yabbbbut I've got a gray one too, which is just fine as it matches the road uniform. I'll vote that category though. Edgy DC Feb 22 2009 06:47 PM Yankee jerseys and shirts with the players' names on them --- highly disapprove. seawolf17 Feb 22 2009 07:27 PM ="Edgy DC":21habvpp]Yankee jerseys and shirts with the players' names on them --- highly disapprove.[/quote:21habvpp] Absolutely; it's simply wrong. But Mets? Yes on all counts. I have an orange Santana, a blue Carter (although I wish they made a Hernandez), and a black Reyes I got as a gift this holiday season. G-Fafif Feb 23 2009 05:25 AM Huge believer in the jersey t-shirts: affordable, portable, delightful for my needs. The jersey is way too big an investment for a player who may be a passing fancy. The rare gray NEW YORK 42 tee, a winter '02-'03 gift from Mrs. Fafif, pops up now and then. I can wear that around the house. I'm thrilled she never spent the bucks on an actual VAUGHN 42 jersey, for it wouldn't be worn anywhere. Tees through the years in rough chronological order of acquisition: Hundley, Alfonzo, Ordonez, Baerga, Olerud, Reed, Ventura, Piazza, Vaughn, Reyes, Martinez, Wright, Delgado, Beltran. themetfairy Feb 23 2009 05:42 AM I have to rethink my answer about this. I was thinking of a particular style of t-shirt yesterday, but now that I'm thinking about it I realize I was mistaken. If we're talking about Mets t-shirts with player names and numbers, I'm cool with those. Zvon Feb 24 2009 02:43 PM I say anything goes when it comes to T-shirts. John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 24 2009 03:36 PM Yeah, ts are ok with me, don't have any and would only get one on sale or something. I can see turning 70 years old, and your kids pitching in to get you an authentic road jersey with your name and No. 70 on the back. Looks great on my dad. 11. According to MLB.com[/url:k2seyo57] and other sources, Jerry is now calling Murph his full time LF and having Tatis as his first righty off of the bench (and possibly to swap in for Church if we see the 2nd half Church). I love it. Let the kid play.
  12. Blue, black, orange, home "Mets" or even road "New York" and the number on the front, a player's name and number on the back. Good/bad/indifferent? Everyone who knows me knows that these are a good fallback option for a gift for me, so I have a bunch of these now. Blue - Carter 8, Reyes 7, Wright 5 Black - Beltran 15, Santana 57 Grey - Wright 5 Beige - Seaver 41 (Cooperstown collection) Fboy has three also -- all blue (Santana, Wright and Reyes). I am wondering what the CPF consensus is...
  13. Just six owners? C'mon people, that ain't gonna cut it. (bump)
  14. Can of corn -- an easy pop fly. I immediately think of Fran Healy when hearing the phrase.
  15. Isringhausen, minor league deal with Tampa. Wonder if he has anything in the tank.
  16. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket":20ip55fb]Can someone explain what it is with the brothers who don't take the stickers off the bill?[/quote:20ip55fb] The Doobie Brothers? They don't wear hats. MFS62 Feb 20 2009 10:26 AM ="John Cougar Lunchbucket":pzznudbs]Can someone explain what it is with the brothers who don't take the stickers off the bill?[/quote:pzznudbs] Are you talking about store/ price stickers? My daughter told me a few years ago that used to be a sign of pride that the hat was stolen, rather than paid for. Later batmagadanleadoff Feb 20 2009 10:29 AM ="Gwreck"]="metsguyinmichigan"]Just found out they're going to wear that cap with the patch all season! If only that were true. More likely, they're going to wear that cap in the 15 games of the year that Charlie Samuels and the Mets deign to actually wear their proper uniform, and they'll wear some godawful black or blue-and-black caps the other 147. I bet you're right. Benjamin Grimm Feb 20 2009 10:51 AM I just saw a clip (on "Mets Hot Stove Report") of Francisco Rodriguez's press conference, and it looks (although it was hard to tell for sure) that his blue Mets cap had a white button on top. (Hmmm, didn't the Brooklyn Dodgers have a white button on their caps?) Offseason-that-felt-much-too-long + Fumbling-something-stupid-and-easy-like-commemorative-patch-design = A dull, exaggerative boy.
  17. He thinks he's Rod Tidwell.
  18. I have to go wash all of the gay out of my eyes now.
  19. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]]Under Armour signs N.Y. Mets' Jose Reyes February 18, 2009 Baltimore-based sports apparel company Under Armour has signed New York Mets All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes to a multiyear partnership. Reyes will be featured in a new advertising campaign that begins today and introduces a new lightweight baseball cleat. Other baseball players Under Armour has signed include Alfonso Soriano, Ryan Zimmerman, Jeff Francoeur, Nick Markakis and Francisco Liriano. Jeff Francoeur? After his 2008 season he should only be allowed to endorse underpants that look like Jackson Pollack paintings.
  20. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket":o4fxz13n]I wanna say Aaron Cook guy from the Rockies, no idea why. John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 18 2009 10:28 AM What do I win? I hope it's something really trivial. btw, I only guessed cuzz we had an xtra series with the Rockies this year and Cook always seems to give us trouble. Edgy DC Feb 18 2009 10:49 AM That's the whole season in a nutsack right there. Benjamin Grimm Feb 18 2009 11:12 AM Yep, as noted, Johnny got it right. It was Aaron Cook. Gwreck Feb 18 2009 11:39 AM Arroyo did beat us twice but it was both 8 inning performances each time. I have basically no recollection of that game vs. the Rockies with Cook's CG.
  21. Didn't Carlos Zambrano pitch a complete game against us early last year? I seem to recall him doing so.

  24. Zito is the correct answer. We were looking for Zito, Barry Zito. Thanks for playing.
  25. In like Randy Winn.
