]Graves must have had something oral going with Omar My thoughts exactly... ]some sort of aggreement before he signed,IIRC he was told when he was sent down that he would get called back up in September. uh, never mind.
]Let's just face it: Beltran sucks. he aint livin up to his contract, but Im not the one payin him. Yes you are-- inflated ticket prices, parking and concessions go towards paying the moled one's contract.
]Im not calling for his head. Im calling on him to use his head. Hear, hear. (or is it, "here, here"?) Anyway, I agree-- Memo to Willie: keep Cairo nailed to the bench, use your pitchers wisely and keep up the aggressiveness on the basepaths
]Dughut demeanor is like so low on the chart of what we could complain about with regard to Willie that it's almost not worth wasting keystrokes on. So there are many other things about WWSB that irk you? I thought you said we were being too critical of the man? beep beep beep
] I also don't think that Willie has been overly complacent I beg to differ-- and I'm not alone. How many times have we heard pleas that Willie get run from a game, if only to inspire his charges. But maybe this only supports your claim that the CPF is overly critical of Randolph.
My apologies to Zvon or anyone else who was (or may have been) offended by my choice of words-- my intent was not to disparage any poster, only to express my displeasure with an overly complacent "wait till next year approach" on the part of both WWSB and some forum apologists.
]ya have to give Willie afew years to see what he's all about. Bullshit. That's the same type of thinking that causes WWSB to underuse Heilman ("let's see him work in low-pressure situations") and stick with under-performers like Cairo.("4-for-48?-- Lets give him a few more ABs to see if he can't get it together") Bullshit... That being said, I dunno why Rick Peterson is getting off scot-free here...doesn't he manage the staff?
[]winning it all does not have to be what a baseball team is all about.. We've got a winner in "Guess the Mets Slogan in 2006" contest. That's f'in' classic!
There was an interesting piece not long ago (I'll try to find the link) about Joe Morgan's disparity of [u:d4b1b1ea8e]Moneyball[/u:d4b1b1ea8e], tho' he admitted never actually reading the book. Interesting stuff, really.
Friday nighthad a digital clock display timing Trax pitches -- delivery (from time P recieves ball to windup) supposed to be within 20 seconds if no one on base-- Trachsel usually closked in at at 14 or so-- with men aboard, rose to 40 seconds + Giants announcers (and again on FOX today) making a mountain out of a molehill here if you ask me-- the deliberate pace f's up fielders as much as hitters Mike Krukow said his one-time teammate Joel Youngblood was so impatient that he'd swing at the rosin bag if a pitcher were as slow as Trachsel!
Rationale for Matsui's plunking... Diaz tagging up when leading by 17 in the 7th ... Randolph said it was probably not hte right thing to do...The lead appeared safe. Teammates mentioned it to Diaz. And there was a sense that the D-Backs had registered their complaint when Tim Worrell hit Matsui, in the right hip, with a pitch in the eighth. Matsui didn't discount the possibility.
]Mike Jacobs - first player in major league history to hit 4 HRs within four days of his major league debut.Wow-- either he's Lou Gehrig or Kevin Maas (sorry for the MFY allusions).
Amidst the desert smackdown, we forgot to mention that yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the Mets being no-hit by the Giants Ed Halicki...Wayne Garrett grounded to 1B Willie Montanez for the final out.
