  1. His not-letting-the-opposing-team-hit-it game is decent, as well
  2. I DO enjoy Miguel Castro's sock/shoe game immensely

  5. IS it a Mets tradition? I mean, they had ample opportunity to make it one, but at this point, it's more like something the Mets did once.
  6. Apparently, they're https://sny.tv/articles/mets-to-wear-first-responder-caps-in-game-on-friday-for-anniversary-of-sept-11-pete-alonso-announceswearing the first responder hats for this. Who knew all it would take would be a global pandemic, America's race-problem reckoning, and being out of town in New York during a shortened season? Who's wearing the NYPDs? PLACE YA BETS
  7. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Kevin Appier also wants in on this conversation. Edit: Appier was a lot better than I remembered. He REALLY was. Basically, wrong team, wrong time. Edgy MD wrote: Wacha and Porcello would be cool if one of them was blonder and the other darker, and one impulsive and the other more measured, and they had adventures and had each other's backs and always had more ladies than they could handle. They would also have to drive around in a sweet ride — perhaps the Mets bullpen cart. Only if Luis Rojas agreed to grow a nice, full mustache and more freely let them know when he'd had it up to HERE with them.
  8. As a kid who summered in Jersey in the late eighties AND had plenty of older cousins/older cousins' friends with cars and a chaotic-neutral alignment... this felt made especially for me. Watching with a wife who also grew up making the occasional Traction Park run AND a child with a frightening appetite for lurid war stories tripled the fun. The only real criticism I have is that it doesn't quite nail the landing, in terms of squaring the nostalgic hijinks of the first half with the-- spoiler alert?-- deaths and tragedy of the latter one. I could watch Chris Gerherd spin Tales of Dirtbag Jersey for hours, I think.
  9. 3: Haranggggg6 6. Tony Pena 10. Mr. Gwynn
  10. LF... Claudell Washington? Darryl Hamilton? Undead Kevin McReynolds?
  11. Edgy MD wrote: "All year long" has been, like, six weeks. Name one useful thing he did in June! I'll, like, wait! Do TikToks count?
  12. My first thought-- as with most people going through dementia AND other illnesses late in life-- was "It's almost certainly best it's over for him/her/them." Devoted to excellence like it was a personal faith.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Why is a pitch count of 69 considered prohibitive for a 29-year-old vet? When did Petersboro become a reliever? Maybe we wouldn't have the bullpen shortage/malfunction issues if they didn't pitch a minimum of 5 innings in every game that isn't a deGrom start.
  14. "All year long" has been, like, six weeks. Also, he hasn't been slummy for all six weeks. Majority, sure.
  15. About two thirds of the way through this, I switched to watching the Nuggets-Jazz Game 7. It was a good choice, I think.
  16. I court Toddhood. 1.Hundley, Pratt, Zeile, Todd, Frazier, Heaney 2. Barry Lyons 3. 111 scorers, 131 schnorrers 4. A) Rundgren English C) Mary Todd Lincoln, but the fake one, right? D) Palin 5. Akron 6. LL Cool J? 7. Poolner 8. Worrell and... um, Hollandsworth? 9. 2: Men in Black 2, Cowboy5 and Alien5 10. Katie, Karen, Kennie, Spenny, Jenny, Garth, Jennygarth
  17. =ashie62 post_id=45385 time=1598913498 user_id=90] Porcello is from Morristown NJ and went Seton Hall Prep in West Orange where he earned an offer from UNC but turned pro instead.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Why Frazier? Is JD Davis hurt more than we first thought? At the very least, this ups our Jersey swagger quotient, assuming that's at all desirable. Porcello's from Jersey, too, but he's not exactly OF Jersey, y'know?
  19. That said... I like that Clevinger trade for the Padres-- only one consensus top-10 minor-leaguer (Arias), and virtually everybody they moved was blocked at the major-league level. (Secondarily: the Pods look like tons of fun, and a good secondary NL rooting interest prospect in the playoffs.)
  20. I... please. No deals. Like, at all. I really, really don't want to see a single one. We don't even have a rumored deal-- or a real Kazmir, even-- and this all is already redolent of Victor Z.
  21. I think if he could, he would have done it at one of the prior 15 stops on his major league itinerary. I mean, for fuck's sake, he'd get on base 35 percent of the time if all he did was bunting or slapping.
  22. Familia in with the bases loaded does not... give comfort.
  23. Why the one-inning-per for guys like Matzoh and Hughes, who are among the few longish guys we've got?
