  1. this year, gomez has the same OPS as daniel murphy, very nearly the same OBP and SLG. and while he's still a good defender, it seems he's dropped off of late. the cost for him was a starting pitcher with promise who has performed at the major league level and with upside remaining, and a starting, albeit struggling, shortstop. instead, we traded away two pieces unlikely to make an impact in our future club, for the player with the 13th highest fWAR in baseball (19th in bWAR), and who just so happens to have been as big a fish as any traded this year*. given the choice ... i'd rather, so much rather, have cespedis this year, and still have flores and wheeler for the future, rather than have what's left of carlos gomez next year, but with neither flores nor wheeler, at the cost of two minor leaguers who are unlikely to make a meaningful major league contribution. and it has nothing to do wit the finances, either. hell, i wouldn't be surprised if the reason gomez' hips scared us off is because of the possibility of snagging cespedis at a far better price.
  2. if harper ended up where trout is now, he's still an easy keep. you also have syndergaard, and harvey as well, there to siphon off some of the arbitration interest.
  3. nah, the last two years it came down to the wire, with me sweating it out on literally the last day of the season. this year might end up the same. although, damn, i've built up a bit of a gap here... and... well... i'll...uh... i'll take harper if you don't want him.
  4. [crossout:u0nlehzu]there are the ten best games i ever saw in person...[/crossout:u0nlehzu] .
  5. I heart sandy alderson
  6. i have no problem with teh mets saying that tehy would accept gomez' medical concerns at a price somewhat less than $9M, and not being willing to accept those medical concerns at a price equal to $9M. medical uncertainty = financial risk, for all players and for all teams everywhere and forever.
  7. i'm trying to figure out how this is a #LOLMETS situation. help me out. 1. mets work out tentative deal for player involving players. 2. player(s) continue to play becuase deal not yet official 3. social media reports trade as complete when trade is not yet complete. 4. mets player continues to play after hearing social media reports. 5. trade falls apart, possibly before 3, maybe before 4. 6. mets get blamed for not pulling player due to his hearing of social media reports that player was traded. are you fucking kidding me? imagine hte outcry if hte mets pulled a player out of a game because social media had reported that the player had been traded, when in actuality, the trade was never consummated. it would be epic. truly epic. fuck this noise. lgm! lgwf!
  8. i like big trucks and i cannot lie. oh, how i wish i could find the right settings on the wayback machine to retrieve that gem. i do vaguely recall, very early, stepping in it on a discussion of whether or not the jews killed jesus, though i cannot remember what in the heck might've triggered the discussion which i'd foolishly dove headlong into. some cookiemom person slapped me down for my ignorance, or at least oversimplification of historical context, and i worried that i'd undone myself yet again. eh, i guess not...
  9. i found the mofo way back in teh wake of the robin ventura signing, mistakenly called it a trade, got lambasted, never used that name again (i'm not even sure what the hell it was) and went into hiding for about two years of good solid lurking. i'm not sure when i resurfaced, exactly, or what precipitated it. but im fairly certain it was in the summer or fall of 2000.
  10. too much work. it's more fun to poke holes in your excellent work.
  11. did you draw the line at delino deshields? 24.2 WAR for senior., 1.1 (and counting) for junior. the gordons, gee and flash, are, well, probably closer to the cut line, as daddy had a scant 2 plate appearances (no hits) during his 21 year career. i don't quite undestand how, but bbref has flash down as a 0.4 oWAR. how...? but dee is finally starting to come around, with 4.4 WAR to his name.
  12. uh-llooo! UH-LLLOOOOOOO!!!!!! you're missing the #3 father-son combo, one with metly connections, and an adjusted total of 112.7 daddy had 35.8 oWAR, and faced the mets in our first world series. sonny boy, you may remember more recently, had 41.1 oWAR, including 2.2 with our beloveds. an excellent hitter, he surely could've amassed a greater carerer total, but was quite frequently injured. he got himself a world series ring while playing a fish.

  17. i wonder, seriously wonder, how much the news of pete's having gambled on actual baseball games while he was an actual player has really changed hte opinions of anyone. were there really a lot of people out there who honestly and truly believed that pete rose never gambled on baseball games while he was a player and should have been reinstated and allowed into the hall many times over, and are now shocked SHOCKED! and appalled that he actually did bet on baseball and hope against hope that he's not even allowed to pass within sight of a little league field? i think the most likely course is that those who were the most adamant and ardent pete supporters will find a way to accomodate the news into their worldview, to ameliorate its implications and find room for allowing him to be associated with the game and inducted into the hall. i also find it ludicrous that there are people out there who are more willing to forgive pete rose of his infraction than they are to forgive barry bonds, arod, and the gaggle of pedders of theirs, despite one side threatening to undermine the integrity and vailidity of the entire contest, and the other side doing their utmost (to the point of going too far) to try to win.
  18. i'd have to backtrack into history, and i don't keep track of these kinds of things, but i think that most games minimm has been to have involved a mets win. the kid is fast too. he blazed around hte bases after the game so fast i barely got one photo of him, which remains to be plucked from my camera... he had a very good time, though i don't think he actually payed too much attention to the game. unfortunately i got to the game too late to see the bannering, or get a nathans'-branded cap, but did meet up briefly with tmf, and snagged a pepsi party patrol t-shirt that landed in the aisle next to me. i may not have any luck getting actual baseballs at ball games, but this is my third t-shirt.
  19. awesome! what time are y'all getting there?
  20. as an early fathers day present, me and minimm are going to the game tomorrow. anyone else going for cap day?
  21. amazing that he could find time for baseball between all the polo matches. dansby? seriously.?
  22. baseball is a race to see how soon a player begins to get worse at baseball. young players sometimes get worse as soon as they make the jump to the majors, other times they get better first. old players are almost always already getting worse. young players get better all the time, and on average, continue getting better until their late 20s, at which point they typically plateau, and then decline. old players just keep on getting worse. the best way to guarantee that a player will perform better than the year before is to get one in the midst of his 20s. the best way to guarantee that a player will perform worse than the year before is to get one in the midst of his 30s. Do you think another team would trade us the equivalent of a matz for cuddyer, or murphy? because that's about the offensive level of production you'd get with zobrist. (and if so, lets make THAT fucking move instead!) i get that you want to go all-in on the season. and that's great. let's go all in. what you're proposing is, at best, a kazmir for zambrano trade, only if zambrano was 4 years older.
  23. have i mentioned that this is my favorite fantasy league to play in? because it is.
  24. ottoneu football? anyone?
