1. Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease let this be true.
2. =MFS62 post_id=113849 time=1670176734 user_id=60] When I woke up this morning I realized I didn't feel as bad for him leaving as I thought I would. The team won 101 games last year and he only started 11 (and won 5) of them. I wish him well (just not against the Mets) and hope the team will sign pitchers who can contribute more than that. Later
3. I'm betting the Mets let him know they weren't going to 5 years. The Rangers are idiots, but they're obviously trying to make a splash. They'll regret this most of the way. This at least clarifies issues for Eppler/Uncle Steve, and they can get to work. Best memory: Striking out the first 8 batters of the game. Like a man pitching against boys.
4. Pretty wild recap. There was a lot more to this than I thought.
5. You know, if the Mets were to pick up Justin Verlander, Wifey Watch would explode. Just a random thought.
6. He certainly had opportunities. A shame it didn't work out. Wishing him best of luck in a fresh start. Yeah, this. Looked like he was turning a corner in 2020 but then fell off a cliff and never got back to that level. Once they traded for Vogelbach that was pretty much the end for Dom. He's an NGB. "Nice guy, but........."
7. Devil's in the details. But anything's an improvement over the chop shops.
8. I could have voted for 5 or 6 this round.
9. Know who was one of the investors who got burned by FTX and Crypto? Eeehhhhhhhhh.....this guy. Yeah....don't be like Larry.
10. Rays always seem to get the better end of any deal, so caution is warranted. And they'll want good farm products- they won't take a Dom Smith off our hands.
11. FTX, a cryptocurrency trading company, has filed for bankruptcy protection and its CEO is under investigation. Not exactly shocking as I'm pretty sure crypto in general is a scam. But I heard the news and mused to myself, "why does that company name sound familiar? And it was because of this. https://news.sportslogos.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/umpire-ftx-patch-mlb-baseball-2021-playoffs-sportslogosnet.jpg> Looks like the umps may need a new sponsor next year.
12. Lol at the T-shirt cannon. No wonder they're all smiling. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I did with Jeff Wilpon Through History. My wife thought there was something wrong with me.
13. Lenny, keeping it classy as always. Lenny Dykstra @LennyDykstra I am sorry about your loss in the election, @laurenboebert. Who knows what funny business was going on!? Anyhow, I know this must be a difficult time, and just keep in mind that you have someone right here to talk to (or whatever other kind of needs you may have right now). 14. I seem to recall seeing somewhere that Turner would only be interested in playing short. There are many other places to upgrade rather than juggling second and the outfield. McNeil's proven he can play a competent right field, but he can also play a competent second base. I'd rather leave him there. Now if Nimmo departs, you might have to revisit this.
15. Don't feel too bad for Scott Kingery. He's set for life and then some.
16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The opt-out is official: https://nypost.com/2022/11/07/mlb-free-agency-jacob-degrom-officially-opts-out-of-mets-contract/Jacob deGrom officially opts out of Mets contract to become free agent Taijuan Walker has also opted out. Kick the tires on deGrom to see what he wants. I expect it'll be outrageous. Then move on. I'd like to keep Walker if possible. What I fear is that a lot of FA's may ask more from the Mets than other teams, just because of Uncle Steve's money.
17. =Gwreck post_id=112500 time=1667828332 user_id=56] The other key consideration to me is that the Mets don't have internal alternatives. Rebuilding a farm/player development system doesn't happen overnight. In 5 years, the farm might be developing great in-house relief options but it isn't right now, and retaining Diaz costs nothing but money. If this Diaz deal somehow prevents the Mets from signing Nimmo, or deGrom, or Alonso to an extension, or whatever…then it might be a problem. But do we really think that's the case?
18. Love 'ACE BANDAGE'. That's quality caption-writing.
19. It's Uncle Steve's money. Is Diaz worth 5/102? No, especially not the length. But he was absolutely the #1 priority to get signed this offseason. Will he be worth it in 2027? Probably not, but that's a problem for then.
20. Hate seeing all those optimistic Jake covers. Reality is coming.
21. =Gwreck post_id=112392 time=1667591208 user_id=56] Two-pitch starting pitchers aren't a great bet for success. Lucchesi should be no higher than 7 on the depth chart going into the season. I'd certainly give Walker a QO and consider a longer term deal.
22. This is a tough batch. No action shots (except Bartolo) and relentlessly bad news.
23. I think they'll keep him and make him happy financially. The only way they don't try to keep him is if they sign Judge, which is unlikely.
24. =kcmets post_id=112006 time=1666872011 user_id=53] So does deGrom have to wait until a certain time to 'officially' announce his plans or are they in essence already announced?
