Fox really hates showing replays of game action, don't they? I wanted to see how close the Cespedes play was at first, but instead we were treated to a 15 second look at Alcides Escobar standing at shortstop doing nothing.
I deal with a lot of Cards fans and they're rooting for the Mets, because the Mets knocked off the Cubs, who knocked off the Cards. Enemy of my enemy and all that.
God, I hate the Fox team. Joe Suck. Huggin' Harold Reynolds. Tom Verducci, with a voice made for magazines. And please shove that bow tie, shorty. 9th inning with a lead, I switch to Howie and Josh. It's a formula that's worked to perfection so far.
A-Rod predicts the Mets 'if they catch the ball'. Way to go out on a limb there, Centaur Boy. More importantly, I have the 2009 Daniel Murphy shirt, my yellow compression sleeve and my 2015 WS Mets hat on.
Think about it. The almost-but not-quite year of 2001. That doubleheader loss that sent them on a downward spiral in 2002. The dumpster fire that was 2003. Realizing that Braden Looper was not a closer in 2004. Not quite good enough in 2005. The frozen Carlos Beltran in 2006. 7 ahead with 17 to play in 2007. Losing the last game at Shea, painfully, in 2008. The ever-evolving horror show of 2009-14. Now we're nervous. But it's a fucking good nervous. This is the World Series, and the Mets are in it.
I'm not getting ANY work done today. I haven't been this excited about a Mets game since 1986. They were in the World Series in 2000, but it was against THEM, and there was a certain feeling of dread about the whole thing. This is clean and fresh and shiny and dread-free. Even if they get swept it's not like I'm surrounded by jerkwad Royals fans. So I'm nervous and excited all at once. Waiting 5 days has just ratcheted things up. I need them to play baseball.
