  1. "a la Derek Jeter" I am so sick of the lie that is propagated regarding his tumble into the stands after his running catch....

The rule is clear, Rose is ineligible, and never getting in the hall of fame. I fail to see how this issue isn't (and shouldn't be) long since closed. I agree completely. His defense, and the defense of his supporters has always been that if he only gambled as a manager, it shouldn't affect his hall of fame standing as a player. Ooooops...
  3. Apparently, Pete Rose did bet on baseball as a player... http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13114874/notebook-obtained-lines-shows-pete-rose-bet-baseball-player-1986
  4. Wow - just terrible.
  5. I was perversely wishing for them to be no hit again.
  6. Played for the Mets in 1985 Played for the Cards in 1986 Played for the Mets (again) in 1987. Definitely the cover...
  7. This is just another dbag move from this team which is coming to be expected...

  13. This has been one weird season. I'm in sucked back in mode, but I don't think they can take a Wild Card, there are too many better teams in the other divisions. If the Mets are to make the post-season, they'll have to win the division.

  16. LOL - that's pretty close. they had their families with them, which I thought was pretty cool.
  17. I went to school with a cousin of Alex Lifeson, and met him and Geddy Lee after a show during the Signals tour. It was not at all what you would expect the back stage of a rock concert in the 80's to be like.
  18. Koos lost 20 the year after he came in second in the Cy Young voting to Randy Freaking Jones despite having only one fewer loss with a lower ERA and more than twice as many K's Tell me something about Mike Vail
  19. Centerfield wrote: Tom O'Malley was the youngest player in the bigs when he made his major league debut in 1982 while playing for the Giants. His debut was a Shea Stadium. What is interesting about Bartolome Fortunado? It's Bartolom Fortunato, and he's never eaten in my kitchen. He was originally an outfielder, but was converted to a pitcher when he was signed by Tampa Bay. Would we have gotten more out of Bruce Boisclair if he was converted to a pitcher?
  20. Edgy MD wrote: Maybe because they are. Maybe they are, but YNAGAYLWYW/YNABAYLWYL and stuff. I don't see them dealing Crawford to the Mets, certainly. Minus the pitching staff, I think the Marlins look a lot more promising all over the field than the Mets do.
  21. Vic Sage wrote: But I liked SUPERMAN RETURNS, too, so what do I know. Yeah, me too. I finally saw this, and I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. the only problems I had with the movie were the muted colors, and the fact that they basically nuked Metropolis without out a thought to the consequences and collateral damage. Speaking of the muted colors - this is Superman, not Batman - I would like to see this movie with a restored color palette: Du-eYiD9OfM
  22. Edgy MD wrote: You don't win three championships in five years by being lucky. But shit, they look better than the Mets all over the diamond. Maybe because they are. It's going to be like the NL in the 70's. The successful teams will have pitching, athleticism and overall team speed. The Mets are 1 for 3 there.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: And to think, we're seeing these guys and missing both Pence & Bumgarner. So, like I said, pretty damn good. Of course I also said, one no-hitter from a fill-in fifth starter ago, that their pitching was nothing special. Of special note, Sydergaard and Harvey faced a combined 55 hitters and struck out a grand total of four of them. Shyeeeeet, the Mets had two separate three-K innings. And while this could partially be explained (as Ronnie did during one of the games) that the Gints are a cut down on the swing and put the bat on the ball kind of team (as opposed to the Padres where Syndergaard K'd 10 and got bombed anyway) SF also managed to eke out five HRs among their 27 hits over two games, several of them on 2-strike counts. Now all we have to do is get to Lincecum while praying that Niese doesn't shit the bed. Nats head to Milwaukee for a four game series starting tonight. Braves have a noon-er vs the Pads which they may try to rush through on account of being overly anxious to get on a plane and get a crack at our suddenly generous pitching staff. I'll be shocked if we're not in 3rd place by Monday.
  24. hmmmmmm.... Gary said that on one show, the opposition to he and Howie was outstanding. Might that be our own Gafif?
