But how many people are trying to complete a 1956 Dodgers set? I get that completely. I have a '69 Mets ball that is only missing a Buddy Harrelson signature
  2. Why fake a Jim Gosger? I'm thinking that he signed it at a card show without looking at it too closely.
  3. It's not Jim Gosger - It's Dave Marshall in 1970.
  4. I was relieved when Zobrist went elsewhere, and I'm ecstatic that Cespedes is returning for less than the 6 years he was originally looking for.
  5. I tink dugout guy is Clendenon. It just looks like him with the long arms, and overall pose. Plus, The white glove/wristband combination looks similar in a few photos I've seen of him, including this card:
  6. the best cover didn't make the finals, so meh.
  7. Ken Rosenthal reporting 3 years for 75
  8. Hello Niuman! Any chance that Roger McDowell comes back and spits at him from behind the bushes on the gravelly road?
  9. 3 years with a one year opt out would be perfect. Must not get excited. Must not get excited. Must not get excited.
  10. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think if they instituted the DH this offseason the Mets would have signed Cespedes already. That's if you think the Mets haven't gone after Cespedes harder due to no room in the outfield as opposed to no room in the budget. I think it's the latter, and not the former.
  11. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - The best movie I've seen this year. Yes, it borrowed heavily from the source material, but i think that was done to provide a firm launching point for the next two movies. Hopefully, JJ won't shit all over the next movie like he did while making the second Nu Trek movie. Creed - Much better than it had any right to be, mainly due to Michael B. Jordan's performance. Ant Man - This was a fun movie that was better than the non-existant expectations that I had. Jurassic World - My God was this movie ludicrous, but it was really good fun. Avengers: Age Of Ultron - A complete Shitfest. This movie confirmed what I feared: Kevin Feige killed Joss Whedon, and replaced him with an animatronic duplicate from Disney. This had none of the heart of the original, and CGI was shit. The Good Dinosaur - I could not get past the animation. First rule of animation is to get the basic biology right. With the exception of Star Wars and Creed, The offerings I watched on Netflix (Broadchurch, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil) surpassed what I saw in the theater.
  12. I believe the minors are set up like the majors - The DH is used if the home team is an AL-affiliated team, and the pitchers bat if the home team is NL-affiliated.
  13. This location doesn't look like it's friendly for mass-transit
  14. Centerfield wrote: I think it's a bad sign that not a single other source has picked this up. Not that I have hope, but I think it's actually a good sign. If the agents were just trying to pump up interest, this would have been leaked to more sources.
  15. Vic Sage wrote: premise: I have enough money to own 100% of the Mets and i buy them. If so, i would treat the team as a charitable foundation and: * Give 49% of the team to the City (in exchange for city improvement of roads, access, public transportation, parking, maintenance, and urban development of the local community), and allowing them the veto authority over any move of the franchise and public review of the team's finances; * Build new stadium (at least 60,000 seats), based on classical architecture (no retro, no "modern" [which dates even faster than "retro"], to be called "Metropolis Field", with no obstructed views, a retractable roof and the highest tech score board that can be produced by ILM, and specifically designated areas of the park (the Krane Pool, Kiner's Korner, the Strawberry Patch, Payson Pavillion); with ads and concessions only from NY-based businesses; and with the stadium, grounds and common areas designed with statues, gardens, murals and other commissioned art celebrating the history of the team (including its national league baseball antecedents), plus an interactive Mets Museum and Hall of Fame (accessible to the general public year round); * 1000 free tickets per game to local schools, camps and hospitals, plus cool giveaways for every fan at games Monday-Thursday and Sunday afternoons; * NY Heroes Game on Sunday closest to 9/11, with players wearing 1st Responder hats and free tickets to any family of first responders who died as a direct result of 9/11; * Mets Old Timer's Game and a Future's game, on Weekend before the All-Star break; * Free Broadcast local TV package of at least 10 games; * Using the facilities for Community-based services when no games are scheduled (food drives, public concerts, green markets, job and health fairs, etc); * 1 Home uni, 1 road uni, 1 throwback uni for special events (and no black); * SNY features more baseball-related content than just the games (documentaries, talk shows, game shows, news, interviews, analysis, movies, dramas, sitcoms, mini-series, etc), with an on-demand archive of every broadcast in Mets history that still exists; * Hire management with respect for quantitative analysis, and the resources to establish best scouting system in baseball (including academies in Cuba, Mexico, DR, Japan, Korea, Australia and Europe), and a minor league system with all teams in the northeast and southeast, including the purchase of the Long Island Ducks, and making them our AAA affiliate, and a guarantee that the Mets will maintain a 25-man roster with a budget among the top 25% of teams every year. Then, i'll watch the games from my suite, sitting with my friends, being served nathan's hot dogs and Brooklyn Lager by Hooter's Girls, stopping into the booth once in a while to chat with Gary, Howie, Ron and Keith, to tell the fans what i REALLY think. Until the day I die; at which point the remaining ownership will also go to the city, with my family maintaining an ongoing profit participation and luxury box in perpetuity. This is why it's Ralph's world, and we just reside in it.
  16. All kidding aside, I wouldn't waste a dime or a minute on this team. With that kind of money, I'm going the Jon Stewart route, buying a ranch, and rescuing as many dogs as possible.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: My original guess was 6,480 but then for some reason talked myself down from that. I started by figuring that 200/year for a team was a 'good' year so I estimated 60% of that: 200 x 54 seasons = 10,800 x .6 = 6,480 I remembered that t hey had only one year where they hit 200, and remembered the offensive futility throughout the 70's, so I figured on an average of 110 a year..
  18. Screw that - I'm buying Port Orleans Riverside:
  19. The wraparound cover is just very well done. The post cover is much too busy...
  20. 1. I'd hire a group composed of some of our favorite bloggers, install Greg as VP in charge of Fan Experience, and let them fix things. 2. I'd obviously increase payroll, and then get out of Sandy's way. I consider myself to be a knowledgeable baseball fan, but I'm not a baseball man. That one letter makes miles of difference. 3. First responder hats as CF said. Not only on the anniversary of the attacks, but on any day we damn well pleased. 4. I'd invite Rachel Robinson and discuss changing the rotunda with her. This should be a tribute to Mets history, not a for a player, however important, never played for the team. Apparently, my grandfather knew Jack (that's a story for another day), and maybe I could handle this delicately enough where it wouldn't blow up in my face. 5. Have the field reconfigured to match Shea's dimensions, which seemed fair to both pitching and hitting.

  23. So, thanks to Zvon's terrific suggestion, I'm now a bit disappointed that he's going in with a Mets cap...
  24. Zvon wrote: I really want it to be a Mets cap but If they go with a first responders cap, I'll be okay with that too. I'd salute the hall. I doubt they have the balls to do that though. [fimg=300]https://cbsnewyork.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/1165518.jpg?w=640&h=360&crop=1[/fimg] That would be perfect.
  25. This pretty much settles it, doesn't it? Primary team: New York Mets settles that it won't be a Dodgers cap. Could still be blank. It settles nothing. Jim Bunning's primary team is listed as the Tigers, yet he wears a Phillie Cap on his plaque. Dave Winfield's primary team is listed as the Yankees, yet his plaque has him wearing a Padre cap.
