When I was in high school, I learned all (or most, anyhow) of the names of heads of state in the world's sovereign nations. Jose Napoleon Duarte was president of El Salvador, and I have learned in subsequent years how awful his presidency was, and a surprising amount of the insanity of our current times can be traced to Reagan-era US foreign policy in El Salvador at the time. Somehow, Dansby Swanson is still in the nine-hole. The Mets sure dragged their feet (understandably) posting today's lineup. As far as they go, well, after Freddy Peralta's last start, his ERA is looking unsightly. Un-savory. Un-American. More importantly, your new secondbaseman is ... Brett Baty? Bo Bichette is back at third, and Ronny Mauricio at short. Mo at short and Bichette at third was to be the preferred alignment after Francisco LIndor first went down, and it wasn't until Ronny followed him to the IL that the Mets conceded to return Bichette to short. So, presumably because Francisco Lindor is not yet ready to go everyday — or possibly because he further strained his calf trying to let out an infield hit — that is the alignment they are returning to. Well, it isn't really out of position, if he has played some there every season of his pro career, including this season. I think we all know the worst that can happen, but people move. Sometimes for good reasons. As I wrote, I don't expect it to go down — right now, they are probably thinner in the outfield. I just wrote that it opens up the possibility. I'm not advocating, just looking at interesting things that can unfold.

This could garner us a look at Ewing playing second. Probably not, and after yesterday, I imagine that Mendoza is shy about playing anybody at secondary positions, but maybe.

I like that David Peterson is still listed as being among the Mets available relievers until this trade becomes official. If and when it does, the Mets will b down to three starting pitchers on the roster, so get ready to see some unexpected dudes like Xzavion Curry on the mound in the coming weeks.
