I don't know about words like "serious" or "misjudged." I just think Sandy had his ceiling and was willing to take the team's money walk away when another team went higher. What's for us to judge, I think, is whether or not he was right to walk away.

Here's my picture from that game: See, this is why Charlie Samuels needed to be thrown in prison. NO team dressed like that deserves to win.

I think figuring out which AAAA players may actually be MLBers who got that label unfairly may be the funnest part of GMing. Maybe, considering the likes of Baxter and Quintanilla, it's one of those tasks this leadership team is good at. Or maybe, considering the likes of Nickeas and Emaus, and the unnecessary exposure to waivers of Quintanilla, not so much.

You're saying we could get Dickey back then?!

Now I do, too.

But of course you were trying to discredit him.

Maybe not the argument you want to hear, or perhaps yield to, but a heck of a thrust coming from Dale Murphy's family. http://deadspin.com/5969376/?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_facebook&utm_source=deadspin_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

Boom-chocka-locka-locka-BOOM! Never read Mets Mama before, but winning illustrations are the key to making a reader out of me.

Because when you disparage a guy, you should be willing to back that up. I hope when somebody trashes you, he backs his opinion up with accounts of things you actually did and said.

It'd be nice if you shared something about what your opinion is based on, seeing as how you disparaged him and all.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: He was also one of the younger, if not the youngest, player reps in the big leagues. He stepped up because none of his veteran teammates wanted to do so. And thus, the guy left holding the moral bag when the league insisted the players not wear first responder caps.

Only one from the dazzling 2012 Brooklyn rotation of Cessa/Ynoa/Lara/Mateo/Robles/Hilario. Were they all pitching below their age level or something? Robles had a WHIP of 0.784. He's given up three homers in 235.1 innings as a professional, and none in 72.2 innings last year. Plus, wherever he went in Brooklyn, he left a trail of crumbs. What's a guy gotta do?!

What ways is he set in? All folks who give their opinions will disagree with others who publish opinions. Does he write stuff like, "John Sickels is wrong because he's ALWAYS wrong, and I wish he'd change his shirt once in a while. The funk off of that guy --- GEEZ!"? All opinions about what will happen in the future are speculative.

The difference between a verbal offer and a formal written offer is good fodder for the furious, but it doesn't really mean anything. Reyes' agents asked Alderson how high he was willing to go. Alderson gave him a figure. Rather than say, "That's interesting --- we'd like to see a formal offer," the agents took that figure back to Miami, who topped it. Done. Is it really so terrible that the Mets didn't come running in at the 11th hour with their lower offer, hammered out and submitted officially on paper? It isn't to me. All that matters is they had their bid, the Marlins had theirs, and the Marlins' bid was higher.

My friends, my friends, they're all leaving town. You ever see so much catching exchanged in one deal? Can't find a legit 90x135 pic of Becerra. Let's hope the Mets photo team catches him in camp. Pretty impressive that the Mets, after non-tendering, brought him back with a minor-league contract. Despite his apparent failure as a big leaguer last season, they recognized that, with his experience catching the knuckler, he still had value. Whether they brought him back to use as Thole insurance for themselves, or had planned to dangle him in a Dickey package all along, I dunno, but good on them for seeing that his silver lining, thin as it was, was a valuably rare one.

Caught the knuckler with a softball mitt. No such thread for R.A. Dickens?

The Mets made an offer for Reyes.

Interesting that Dickey gets $1 million less than the supposedly discounted package he was asking from the Mets.

Western Canada represent!

I have him slated for the 2013 bullpen, but he could he's either a starter or reliever, in Las Vegas or New York, and he's either good or bad. No possibility seems more likely than the other.

Mazz was done, sadly, by the time he became a Blueie. We could include him, as the team needs a fifth outfielder, but I figured Segui could fake it out there.
