    Luis Robert is fanning the flames of the end of his career in center. Maybe the Mets are continuing to use him there to showcase him for an offseason deal or something, but exposing his arm is not improving his value.

    Thanks for filling in the data. Yeah, I imagine something pretty dramatic would likely be going down to keep the opt-out/escalation from being a fait accompli from both ends. But who knows what transpires between now and 2029?

    Folks, we neglected to start an IGT for this evening's game, forcing Brock to brock with protocol, taking the IGT-starting privileges the day after starting the thread and losing. Yikes. Again, I say, yikes.

    I didn't know there was an agreed-upon amount to get him to not opt-out. I just figured, as the opt-out loomed, his agent would drag the Mets back to the negotiating table and play hardball.

    Maybe, but without Soto, that $51,875,000 might have spread meaningfully to different outlets. There are two sides to these equations. The fun part of his salary is it stays flat through 2039(!!), so that $51 million will presumably be worth far less then (depending on how maliciously the president upends the economy and nation). On the other hand, he has that opt-out after 2030, which he will likely take, or force the Mets to escalate his salary under the threat of him taking it.

    I wouldn't have even thought about challenging that play on Benge at first. Very surprised to see it overturned.

    The extra fun part is when it's tabulated how a hit influences a game, compounded with how a game turns a season, and the season turns the likelihood of a championship. Somebody calculated that some time ago, and it was concluded that the biggest fate turner in Mets regular season history was the Ron Hodges soft-liner walkoff in 1973 that (a) should have been caught, and (b) is far less remembered than the tag out at home he made earlier in the game. I don't know if that is still true, or if the Lindor home has displaced it.
