    People getting put on waivers in August is certainly not as common now that waivers can no longer be revocable. As for general memories, the guy was/is a specimen. Like Starling Marte before him, he was/is built like he's made of stone, top to bottom, and had the speed to match. Like Starling Marte before him, he didn't have enough health and baseball left in his body. The desire was mostly there. My most specific memories are a pair of throws he made about 10 days ago that were just not something you ever want to see on a big-league field. Turrible. Reached base three times on Opening Day, and won the game with a three-run homer in the eleventh in Game Two. David Stearns must've briefly felt supergeniusy.
